Those were professional interpreter, they have they own note taking technique for interpreting. Look it up.

@@skinny2172 professional interpreters can also ask for a pause. At the end we're not machines. Obviously in this case there was no window to interrupt Klopp but in a daily life interaction we need to remind clients that for the sake of accuracy they need to give us shorter segments.

You have no idea how hard it is to translate live like that, most times (depending on the language) simple translations are not enough. Most times the interpreter has to transcreate what the other interlocutor is saying, to convey not just the meaning behind the words but also intent, style, tone, context, emotion! Especially in a situation such as this which is not super formal. Hence, bravo bravo my dude, you've got my full respect

I agree! I'm a translator myself and it taxes you a lot when it comes to attention. Once I was performing a simultaneous intrpretation (at the moment of speaking, without the pauses) and I got a tunnel vision and at one point didn't know what I was saying xd

Different languages take different amounts of time when spoken. longer/shorter words, expressions, phrases, etc. it doesnt always take the same amount of time to say the same sentence in two different languages...

No, not really. A good interpreter can sum up the content. A bad interpreter translates word for word. There is another example of a German interpreter who did translate Klopps words wrong. Klopp understood and took over by saying "I have not said that."

Melan Choliac That’s not the point, even if you switch some words if it requires more words to do the sentence it will take longer, the guy was speaking Italian, you have to use many adverbs/adjectives/etc to make people understand what you’re saying

So to translate from English: "we have to wake up early tomorrow" can be summarized in Spanish as: "tenemos que madrugar" (7 words in english vs 3 in spanish).

I usually just translate but I've been taking interpreting classes for a few months and - holy crap, that stuff is a different league! Both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting demand the highest level of focus, memory and eloquence you can have. 🙈 I saw this whole thing in real time and that interpreter is phenomenal.

I think Klopp figured out Italian takes a lot longer to say anything that German, so he deliberately said a lot in German and watched his poor translator suffer. I must really love that translator to mess with him like that. Germans only ever do that to people they really respect.

@@javierburgos7 Not only that. He is not speaking a sentence of his own accord. He is remembering everything said by Klopp to then translate . Sometimes he will have to search for the correct word even though he is fluent different words can vary from language to language. All this takes additional time

Uhhh what the hell? They did him dirty. Languages have different speeds and lengths within sentences. One short English phrase could be a complicated, long Vietnamese phrase and vice versa.... Let the man do his job.
