Transmission fluid change in a manual 6-speed 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 V6 3.7L

Transmission: Getrag 238 - 6-speed longitudinal
Applies to (manual):
2005-2008 Dodge Ram
2005-2009 Dodge Dakota
Warm up engine
Chock the back wheels
Loosen fill plug (8mm Allen)
Remove drain bolt (8mm Aallen)
Drain in catch pan
Replace drain bolt
Remove fill plug
Pump in ATF+4 fluid to capacity
Replace fill plug
Wipe off
Combine remaining oils
Always dispose of properly

That was great , as 99% of the videos are on automatic's and almost nothing on standards .

Those plugs torque specs50 Nm or 37 ft lbs,

Know any updates for this transmission at all? I have owned this 07 Dakota for 3yrs and I did get a hurst short throw shifter for it, “nice” But when u get the short throw shifter base you CANNOT reuse the stock shifters gasket or Sound dampener, has to be installed with out it. Also I replaced the throw out bearing 2 different times and I believe it’s the input shaf bearing that’s making that throw out bearing noise and cannot for the life of this transmission find any rebuild kits at all

the only place I've heard of is Midwest Transmission Center (no experience or affilation) I think they have a tech support number and they would be able to better answer

Yes as long as it's ATF+4

Always let the excess drip completely out of the fill hole you don't want to overpressurize your transmission that's how you blow seals

You cannot over pressurize a transmission it is vented to the atmosphere

Do you know what motors fit this 6-speed transmission i have a 2005 3.7 but want to go with bigger motor any isea what fits the trans ?. TIA

The short answer is I don't know offhand but the more important thing to remember is most any engine can be fitted to a trans with an adapter as long as the engine isn't producing more hp than the trans can handle

theses are also used with the 4.7l on the 05 dakotas.. you are going to want to verify the years as the 4.7l has changed many times over the years

Found a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 · ST Pickup 2D 6 1/4 ft w/ 203k miles for $5k. That's too much, but I'm leery of Dodge products. says he's motivated to sell. Will probably say $2500 for it.
