On the evening of the 22nd of January 2023, an A-series train was accidentally released onto the unelectrified Perth Station Platform 3 which is only used for the Australind service. This occurred just before the end of a Stadium Event and just before the Australind's arrival, resulting in passengers from Bunbury disembarking at McIver and passengers for Bunbury being forced onto a replacement coach after waiting for two hours. Crews tried to couple the diesel Australind onto the A-series to pull the train out but to no avail. It was left there overnight and I believe it was cleared somehow on the morning of the 23rd of January and sent for repairs.
This event caused great disruption to other train services, with Airport Line trains becoming Midland Line trains, Armadale Line running through with the Fremantle Line, and Thornlie Line trains terminating at platform 9. A rather redundant train-replacement bus route 901 operated between Perth Busport and East Perth Station via Perth, McIver and Claisebrook stations. This video looks at the stuck train and the disruption since I was lucky enough to be there at the time as I was trying to film some stadium bus services which I still did later on.
