This is just a quick two night trapping trip to our other block. would have loved to have more time and had longer there but still very happy with the results. I am using the WTS #3 traps from Western Trapping Supplies in Toowoomba QLD. They are an excellent fast little trap with a very good pan system. I will be buying more of them. Check out their website in this link.

I often watch another channel on trapping Wild Dogs in QLD and he cannot express enough about trapping Dogs correctly otherwise all your doing is educating them and as he says if they get bad then the land holders have to start using 1080 poison because of people using traps incorrectly. You are doing an excellent job and enjoy all your videos and by the way I’m not a trapper only a hunter but from what I see I don’t think you are educating terribly many, you seem to be very fussy with setting your traps. That young fella of yours has a very original and great name “HENRY” he is learning plenty out there watching you. Keep the videos coming they are enjoyable.

Thanks mate. I watch Clarks videos too. He's a top bloke and a good trapper. Much better than myself but I'm learning a lot from his channel that I've been putting into practice with good results. In this video is the only time I've had them digging up traps. So next time I'm down there on that block I'll be trying some of his techniques to see if I can get the mongrel that is playing hard to catch. But thanks for the encouragement. Yes I do try and put the effort into making sure the sets are right. Because if you get sloppy, you don't get results. Only educated dogs. Yes Henry is a good little helper (most of the time 😉) and he loves checking the traps with me or finding out how I went when I get home when he couldn't come. So I might make a trapper out of him yet 👌

@@intothenight1993 I didn’t want to mention the other trappers name or videos, then be seen putting yours down, but as you have mentioned Clarkes, he is a very good trapper and he has some really good ideas when it comes to catching a dog that digs the traps out. I think your doing a great job when it comes to eradicating feral animals Pigs, Foxes,Dogs and the rest of them. It always makes me wonder what other properties are like that don’t keep them down, it must be like heaven for them until they step onto your place then it does become heaven. G'day Josh You're a pretty cluey bloke and quite handy at putting things together. Why not make up an attachment for the stake puller that can be connected to a hydraulic jack, wind the jack up and easy peasy . In your last reply to me the other day you said there were a few dogs around and there is now 3 less. Keep it up mate and great to see young Henry having some fun. Many years ago I had a fox chew off its leg to escape from a trap. Have you experienced this with dogs or foxes. Cheers from South Oz

Thanks Ian. That's a great Idea! I could just make up something to attach to the stake and use my high lift jack! I'll work on it. Yeah I've heard of them chewing their legs off but I've never had that happen yet. I have had them die in the trap quickly in the hot weather when i couldn't get to check the traps till the afternoon.

@@intothenight1993 # 1 is the objective: to get rid of as many as possible ASAP? & #2 is the humane effects compared between techniques. If the dross is removed from the arguments, it's difficult to see a poorly shot dog or overnight trapped one being any better than a much faster illness. & that stuff has deadly poison on the label for a very good reason. It's not idiot proof and many of the problems can be attributed to that. Doing large scale jobs showed using poison, then traps, then shooting, finally dogs was the general outline that worked most effectively: least disturbance to most sequence. The last few cost as much as the first 95% usually, and with really good detector operators it was too common to find eradicated populations somehow had resurrected.

@@intothenight1993 No a single 18 inch angle stake would hold most any thing on land but in muddy creek bottoms I would use the rebar stake for the holding power as coyotes and bobcats are about the same size as the dogs you trap but for the much larger wolves I use longer stakes. i often would use heavy drag sets made from heavy tree limbs nearby ,they work well especially back in the day before offset jaws were introduced widely.

Sure they might kill the odd pigs but that’s like saying a spider in your house wall is helping control the flu problem. Yes it might get a few but you can kill the spider so it not making your house look untidy but it won’t make a difference to the fly population. There are far more effective control methods than relying on a few dogs. So with the dogs out the picture the pigs are not going to breed up much faster but we will have a lot less problems losing stock or fixing fence and sorting out stock that have been chased though fences and mixed up with other stock they shouldn’t be.
