I hate when people put food garbage in the trash that goes to the dump !!!! And they look at me like I’m nuts when I ask them to save it for me 😏

Thank you. I saw a ton of fancy bins that are not in my budget. I have a bin that I store my planting materials in already so I’m excited to re- purpose it for composting. Our city doesn’t have a composting program and I hate throwing away everything! I’m juiced and eager to get started! Thanks again!!!

Those of us who compost know how exciting it is when it’s finished, full of worms, “Black Gold” for the garden. Do you add your chicken manure ( sorry, don’t mean to bring up sad memories), I’ve heard it rocket fuel for the compost. Take care

1)How long does it take to be ready to use? 2) why must it be raised off the ground? I just started mine a week ago but it’s on the ground, no holes and I put a big brick on it to deter animals.

Ideally you wanna add old potting soil which has all the beneficial microbes that help with the decomposition process. They will build up on its own but adding them yourself will speed up the process

Good job Liz! Keep positive! My zoo pin was completely covered, plus I've had completely covered pheasant pens! Compost has always been on my list! (but have tons of cow poop 💩)

There are honestly soo many variables that can sway your results in a plethora of ways, such as the overall timing of your compost achieving "finished product" status.. There's a lot more to it than meets the [naked] eye...🦠🌱🪳🪳 Yet, at the same time, you can straight up be as involved or as lazy with it all as you damn well please! It will pretty much always still do its thing.

I’ve got a question - I see this can be done year round … when in heavy snow or rain do you cover the lid with tarp or it’s okay that rain and snow gets in there from the holes?

I personly did not drill holes in the lid. I just put more on the sides at the top. That way it does not get too wet but you have to keep an eye on it if it needs watering😊

Composting is a natural occurrence. If your materials end up in a landfill, they compost there.

I think the point is fertilizer for your garden and slightly reduces waste in your garbage bags. Thus saving a few bags in the process

@Matt C. that is wrong. landfills are largely anaerobic and produce methane and not usable compost. a simple Google search would've prevented this misinformation.

You could do that, but this benefits the humans that bought it and helps plants a lot. Also most animals won't eat food scraps like this, it'll turn into compost anyway.

Please know I’m being totally respectful but Virgil and I stopped watching The Segovias because we felt he was pumping out his wife. Maybe it’s because we are older; Courtney and Riley have been here for dinner and the Martin’s have bought paint at my husband’s store he manages. There's nothing wrong with composting in landfills.

That is totally wrong! There is no composting in a landfill as the conditions are not suitable and there is no oxygen in these piles. Everything just rots around, it creates methane and never really composts.

@cel5365 OK. And its gets used in many cases. My point was today's landfills in the USA are heavily regulated and fully contained forever.
