Compilation of clips from a rainy day. A few takeaways:
- Place carts wheels to the house.
- Correctly placed carts will stay cleaner.
- Batteries should not go in your trash.
- If you're good, you don't have to step out into the rain to get trash.

I know so much of this job is often disgusting and I know very few people appreciate what y’all do but I still think this would be really neat job, even waking up at 4am. You get to some little puzzles with the bad cart placement using that arm, you’re on your own doing your work (which I like), etc. And you’re doing something very useful for people! I’m sure it can get monotonous but the world would grind to a halt in a week without you guys and I appreciate and respect y’all and do everything I can to make my trash pickup as easy as possible.

I'm not a garbage man but part of my job is taking out trash/recycle. I never realized how completely inconsiderate people could be until I started doing this job😂. So many simple things that you mention like tying your bags, using another can 2 feet away if the closest one is full, etc etc. Putting trash in the recycle when its right next to it. You get the point... It's just crazy how people can't take an extra 2 minutes out of their day to think about the person who will be cleaning up their mess. Keep up the great work! take care

I’m still at it man in my pac-tech bandit. First round was about 600 carts by noon went to the dump had 17.9k in the hopper then ran another 9.4k after lunch had to hit the transfer station twice today. I’ve got people stealing carts that I’m picking up when I notice ppl leaving all kinds of random crap out at the curb that I’m not allowed to pick up. Nice people the want a wave or lil kids that want me to honk that air horn. It’s 93% out today and the rice is crawling for sure. Smells I can’t describe. Ripped off 2 lids today from backwards carts getting caught in the compactor. Guess I’ll repair them Monday. From trash man to trash man have a great weekend bro. There be 10k of cat poop waiting on Monday. ;)

@@acesanitationserviceinc Municipality but the neighborhoods are growing rapidly. Trucks really not up for it. I have to slow down to keep the hydraulic fluid from overheating the truck. It’s got a Detroit dd8 it’s running at 220-260 radiator hoses swelling. They gave me a 2nd crew for Mondays but Tuesday is 900 carts and an hour trip to the dump. And Friday is a close 2nd to Tuesday. And they give me crap about fuel cost and operating cost. I’m not filling those carts. I have no control over the general population. And a lot of ppl. Are complete a-holes or just stupid. I have 2inch power line misses everyday ppl put carts right under tree limbs, behind vehicles, filled with concrete or dirt or rocks…carts that weigh 300-500 lbs. people take advantage wherever they can. It’s pretty crazy. Trucks at 13ft with a cart being 3ft the arm goes way up and the phone lines are at 14ft it’s a real close call every can for some streets.

@@jamesblinzler7421 I rather see the rice crawling from a camera than having to dodge it!! I’m a helper so we all kinda in the same boat haha, Out in the Philadelphia area last 2 weeks we’ve gotten all 85+ plus days so I know you can vision the beautiful aromas out and about! I’m only 23 so my upside is getting in and getting OUT! Start 4 am 2 days on a commercial route doing maybe a couple hundred 2-3 yrd dumpsters and a few toters along the way , And 3 days on Res doing right about 900-1300 Toters all mostly private contracts and some hoa municipal/township ran ones! BE SAFE GUYS STAY COOL!!

Wild they are concerned about fuel costs when teh truck is servicing that many stops. As long as the truck is tipping carts, the fuel costs shouldn't matter. Unless they priced the contract way too low to win it from a competitor. That definitely happens.

Here in my part of Australia, two things would happen if our trash bins where over filled.... 1. The garbo would refuse to take it and we would end up having to take it to the dump ourselves and pay about $200 2. About 2-3 weeks later we will receive a fine in the mail of about $300 from the local council for having an over filled bin. (Per bin)

I used to work for a garbage service in n.c. and I saw the way people would put their cans the wrong way and they could take trash out of one can and put it in another one but I had to give it up because of bursitis in my hip

3 types of bad customers 1 mounders, pile it high and it falls everywhere. 2 maggot farmers, throw out raw meats and sewage into carts. 3 the no baggers. Just loose plastic bags toilet paper and stuff that blows everywhere. And I’m considering a fourth category called the “tarp wadders” They wad up a giant tarp into a can smash it in there and put random loose stuff underneath so it won’t come out no matter how hard I shake it. Then I got set the cart down and it flings it all over the yard. Maybe a fifth category of people who put empty beer bottles on top on the cart that fall and break making me get out get the broom and shovel and sweep up glass costing me too much time. At 900 carts on a shift if 30-45 people cost me just 1 minute, I only get a 30 min lunch…they just cost me my lunch break grrr!!! Hate those ppl. But hey they block the mail boxes more so they should more worried about some guy going postal right. You never worry about a worker going trash man. Strait dumping 20k on their porch and driving off. I’ve had my truck on fire twice from idiots putting hot coals in the trash and live ammunition through my compactor. But I saved the truck and got a 30 cent raise this year so can’t complain….

Yeah a lot of our customers put the carts out both backwards and close together. The sidewinder has a better more precise arm compared to my python arm. I do jave to get out and move carts either away from eachother or away from the mail boxes. Its a pain in nad weather but they pay me by the second so im not in a hurry lol. 😅

My real question is? A small thing falls down a plastic bag blows out? What is the logistical reason for climbing out while the diesel is burning to pick up a random small unbagged thing? As a cost effective summery? How much weight or material is worth the fuel? In seconds? Would you like me to make a math proposal?

My day is spent counting minutes and cans? Only work 8hrs what should my pay rate be??? The real question of the day. I make 18$ an hr after my raise. Is that good enough should I be happy or mad? I’ve got 3 kids and I can feed every one. But that’s about it. We drive 20 yr old cars and pay our bills but that’s it. No McDonald’s no anything but work and home. Week after week. I’ve got 22 yrs before I retire is this worth it. I was proud as a sewer man. If the sewer don’t work you all gonna die. What happens when the trash is as high as your roof. Than who you gonna call???

People don’t realize that we are doing our jobs from a small mirror so everything is reversed and water on the window and mirrors means we can’t see. It’s all based on memory and muscle memory based on visual input. Bro you do us all proud. Strait pro! No cap strait pro. The garbage man knows!!! 😅

I’m a helper on the back of a truck for a private owned waste disposal company. And man did you hit it all on the nose , people mixing trash with recycling , overfilling toters when it’s multiple around , untied bags is my biggest one because it’s literally strings right in your face just tie the bag!!! My specific company accepts bulk and yard waste and again some people just overdue it , There are multiple times a day you will ride up to a stop and it’s whole bushes coming out the toters! Since it’s nice out in the Philly area lots of grass cutting , trimming , Landscaping. Just yesterday morning I pulled to a toter with grass overtop of broken up concrete from the driveway!!! And some of the customers so arrogant they simply not care or think throwing you a little $20 is changing the narrative , Dude no I get hell back on this not you that $20 turns out not being worth it. I actually enjoyed my job when first starting but as time goes on I tend to pick it apart and just want people to be more considerate , beautiful job and career tho just gotta be strong headed and hearted. GREAT VID!

That kind of job would be depressing to me..seeing all the stuff being wasted and knowing that some of it could be reused, fixed or recycled. 😊
