Well, there was a difficulty level for BW2. BW/BW2 suffered the same problem as GTA 4, they made the game more adult themed, and it either did dogshit in sales (for their franchise), or the fans didn't like the change of the tone. Remember how poorly Gen 5 was first recieved? Now it is totally beloved and it has had its redemption. Because of that, pokemon is full kids game with tons of hand holding. We, the fans, are at fault for this. The elite 4 of BDSP are tough though, and PTLA is quite challenging in its own ways

Grinding is not difficulty, its time wasting (though seeing numbers go up can be satisfying/rewarding). Removing/reducing a "need to grind" doesn't inherently make a game worse. I know I'm super late to the party, but I want to share some stuff I've discovered over the past year; people that are not into the direction that GF is taking Pokémon need to take 30 minutes out of their lives to learn about what romhacks are good. There are some romhacks out there that are no bullshit as good or _better_ than some of the early mainline Pokémon games, which most people consider the best. Like seriously, I played Pokémon Prism this year and it was mindblowing; 2nd Gen aesthetic with Pokémon up to like Gen 5 or 6, meaning the creator had to custom make hundreds of sprites. The physical/special split is implemented, natures/abilities are implemented, there's like _2 or 3 regions_ that are legitimately well-designed, and the story is as good as you could ever wish for a Pokémon story to be. That's just one romhack, there are countless amazing romhacks out there that can simultaneously scratch the nostalgia itch while giving you a completely new experience. There's a lot of really cool romhacks that are basically just QOL patches, or romhacks that take an old game and spin it into something interesting, like Pokémon Crystal Clear, which is Crystal but open world, where you can start in any town and do the gyms in any order (the levels are auto-adjusted), and there's like 20 different starters to choose from. The world of romhacks is vast, and perfect for people like me who frankly hate the newer games.

I like building my team, exploring new areas, catching new pokemon, beating the gyms to the champion, and so on, which are the basic tasks of the games. I also talk to all the NPCs in case I get something or find out something important. 3:45 10 minutes? How does it take 10 minutes? It takes me a bit longer to get my team up to the level cap of each gym. Yes, I do play with my whole team and spread out HMs. Well, that and I do explore a bit like Garnt. You can find pretty good items if you take the time to look for them. But then again, I mostly play the older games.

Yes. Although I think they can be at least somewhat enjoyable. I think if they are set on keeping the EXP share on then build off the BDSP elite 4 and champion by giving all trainers competitive moveset and items. Or continue the Legends Arceus approach
@NiallByrne4 ай бұрын
It started with Pokemon X and Y. Genuinely wish Game freak would impliment a basic Hard mode into the games that you could toggle. easy by default and if you are finding it to easy, turn on hard mode and all the pokemon, trainer, gym leader battles in general a buffed with better stats and match the level of you team or higher if the Pokemon. They kinda did this in the DLC of the new game Scarlet and violet. all the trainers and elite 4 are strong and the main trainers have EV trained pokemon with real strategies to beat you. I couldn't walk around with 3 random pokemon at level 100. I'd actually have to try to win.

Play radical red, unbound, or inclement emerald if you want a challenging/unbearable experience (you can choose difficulty to adjust it to your liking). Greatest Pokémon fan games. Radical red is based on competitive play (gens 1-8, GOAT in my opinion, normal mode is infuriating for a first timer and forces battles to set, no items, and level cap to match the next boss) there is both an easy mode and a hard mode (this will make you physically sick lol) Unbound is crazy for it’s original story. A very healthy challenge (gens 1-7, starters are larvitar, beldum, gible) Inclement emerald is revamped emerald (gens 1-7, adjustable difficulty, can choose you starter from every region) Please someone get these guys to play them.

@@AlexanderFaker This is pretty much my thoughts on the matter. I actually thought S&M were somewhat difficult because I hate grinding, being the type to avoid trainers in the 2D games. These games seem easy for some-as stated about garnt-JRPG players because they don't understand that pokemon isn't *all* about grinding. You could have a level 100 pokemon before leaving route 1 if you wanted to.
@VakovoSheggorri Жыл бұрын
Adding more difficulty options *never* hurts a game i think, so long as all those difficulty options are...well, optional. Creating a "Nuzlock" mode where you can start a new game, then choose all the "Nuzlock rules" you would like to apply (No items in battle, ect) would only improve the game and add longevity. I don't get why Nintendo does not understand this, that Difficulty options only make the game more playable, and even accessible. Adding a "Hard mode" NG for example, that'd bring some people in. Nuzlock mode? Brings even more people in. The Nuzlock mode i think specifically would be a good addition, since having the game actually enforce the rules could give some people the push needed to actually go through with a Nuzlock where otherwise they may never have before.

It's either pokemon games have gotten easier, or we played pokemon games when we were younger so they seemed a lot harder. It's probably a bit of both. If you went back and played the pokemon game that you played a lot as a kid, it probably wouldn't be as hard as you remembered it to be.

I picked up Sword or whatever on Switch after not playing a Pokemon game since like... Silver or something as a kid. I decided pretty early on that playing normally wasn't ever going to get interesting so I just ran the game with 1-2 Types like a Gym Leader so I'd have situations where I'd just outright be at a disadvantage. Probably helped me stay interested for awhile longer. Realistically that just adds a little grind to outlevel some fights that just aren't gonna happen otherwise though, not super interesting, but better than stomping absolutely everything.

I think the main reason pokemon games got so easy and hand holding is modern kids have even less attention span than we did. They don't pay attention or look for secrets or hints, they just wanna battle and move on, so now games are built to allow them to do that. They were never really hard before unless you played them like the anime in which you actively try different pokemon and try to keep them even, now though doing that isn't even much different than steamrolling with your starter.

I know Garnt likes grinding and a more challenging game. I also feel like it has already been said many times when Pokemon comes up everytime but you all should try SMT. Remember back in the days when parents keep nagging their children that Pokemon is used to lure us to the devil and shit like that. Yeah, that's basically SMT. A dark story and a much more challenging monster catcher game as you "catch" deities, mythological figures, demons, angels all around the world like Loki, Thor, Siegfried even Satan or Lucifer. Although compared to most JRPGs, SMT doesn't want you to grind (protagonist level at a reasonable rate while your other party members level at a turtle's pace), it's done that way so you are encouraged to fuse them to get more powerful party members. I have many things more to say but you should try it if you are not having fun with Pokemon anymore but still like to play games that has similar gameplay but don't get me wrong Pokemon is still a great game but as an adult, it's all too easy to me.

Things got way to easy when sword & shield came out and you could literally lvl 100 your Pokémon before the first gym. I still remember the struggle when I first played red. Don’t really know how I beat it as a kid especially since I for some reason had a Japanese copy so I had no idea what was going on.
@DeathLeprecon2 жыл бұрын
You can't lvl 100 your pokemon before the first gym. At least not without dedicated hundreds of hours to grinding right at the start. But technically, you could do that with any pokemon game. Not liking Sword and Shield is fine, but don't peddle overhyped BS in place of real criticism.
@Kj_Crunch2 жыл бұрын
@@DeathLeprecon In sword and shield the raid dens drop rare candies, so in 9 runs of the ditto raid you will have enough rare candies to lvl 100 a pokemon. It's really easy to abuse, takes like 20 minutes and you can do it before the first gym.
@DeathLeprecon2 жыл бұрын
@@Kj_Crunch Not on a normal playthrough. My nephews played the wild area and Isle of Armor for hours before the first gym. They even did the challenges to get a Kubfu. They were only in the 20's by the first gym. If you're getting that high in level then you're not playing the game naturally, you're intentionally grinding to get that high. Which again, if you're willing to put in the time you can technically do that in any past game as well. I don't know why you would, but you can. Even pro Nuzlockes have been calling this out amongst the fandom.
@Kj_Crunch2 жыл бұрын
@@DeathLeprecon Totally, no normal player would do or even know about this trick. But the fact that it is this easy and available this early in a game is definitely a mistake. The point I'm making is that something like this would never be in the past games, yes it's possible to grind to high levels in the old games but it took so long and was so tedious that no one did it. Whether it was a mistake or intentional, this is just bad game design, you shouldn't use it but you can and there is nothing stopping you. I realize now that this doesn't really relate to the topic of pokemon games getting easier and is just a loophole.
@DeathLeprecon2 жыл бұрын
@@Kj_Crunch Ok. I'm not really against pointing it out, I'm mostly just against using it to claim Sword and Shield are too easy. And I'd argue the only reason we never saw it before is more because we never had anything like Raid Dens before. I think if they were a thing back in the day the problem would exist then too. I do agree that Sword and Shield are easier than many previous games (not all). But I'm used to setting limits on myself to keep the games more challenging, so i didn't come out of SwSh feeling deprived. Though I really think GF would do themselves a favor if they just added a difficulty setting already.
@heyguysdavehere26092 жыл бұрын
Everyone rags on X and Y for being easy (they are) but no-one gushes about how many amazing features they added. X and Y added character customisation, wonder trade,universal exp share (good for competitive and when you can turn off is a net good) and the best online connectivity of any Pokémon game as well as other things. I also think USUM is a difficult new game and think it would have been more well received if it was the first alola game. BDSP’s elite four has the right idea for endgame difficulty but the rest of the game was meh. I would like to see the ability to Newgame+. Allowing you to go back to the start with all your Pokémon and they scale the levels up to astronomical heights (maybe Level 80 for first gym Level 100 Elite Four) I also think the argument that people would struggle going back and playing blue/red is drastically overstated. The difficulty is largely due to broken mechanics that can be abused if you know about them (good AI abuse). I think another part is obviously knowledge, a lot of Pokémon fans have accrued 20+ years of knowledge about types,base stats,game mechanics this is stuff that adds an artificial difficulty that you cannot replicate for players again.
