Switzerland is by far, one of the most constantly picturesque countries in the world and in this video, I continue my "first hour" series with this travel guide: your first hour in Switzerland after landing at the busiest airport in the tiny country, ZRH - Zurich International Airport.

0:00 - Intro
0:15 - C vs J Outlet Adapters
The multi-outlet adapter I use on Amazon: amzn.to/45BUl86
I especially like this one by EPICKA because it has THREE USB type-c and two USB type-a ports along with the main plug.
0:32 - SIM Card vs eSim Considerations
Because Switzerland is not part of the European Union, IF you intend on doing a Europe Trip that includes Switzerland, SOME European visitor sim cards do NOT include service in Switzerland, so you may consider getting an eSIM for the days you'll be there (while maintaining the physical pan-Europe sim)
I have used Holafly and Airolo for my eSims in the past and they have both served me very well. For Switzerland, if you use an eSim (regardless of brand), I recommend you manually choose the network and select SwissCom (instead of letting the eSim automatically choose for you) because that's the network that has consistently given me the most reliable coverage (not to say Salt and Sunrise are BAD - just slightly less consistent in my personal experience).
1:00 - Emergency Cash
1:28 - Swiss Travel Pass?
Beyond the Swiss Travel Pass, there are also regional passes (if you'll be spending a lot of time in one particular region), as well as a Half-Fare Card. The process is all the same for me personally - spend a full 15 minutes on the SBB app or website and calculate to determine whether or not it's worth it for you. A general rule of thumb: the longer you're in Switzerland, the more likely it'll be worth it, but again, calculate.
3:22 - Getting to Customs at ZRH
3:59 - Immigrations Process
4:15 - Baggage Claim & Customs
5:05 - The Fork in the Road
5:49 - Train to Your Destination
6:20 - 3 HUGE "Warnings"

I’m Swiss and watched it anyway. I’ve never seen such a detailed guide for Switzerland in such a short time. Well done.

This video is super helpful and now I'd love to visit Switzerland. How about a "your first hour in..." series of all the countries you travel to?

As a swiss, i would say you covered all the most important things (power, cash, no EU Roaming). For the worthiness of the Travelpass, don't underestimate the prices for the mountain rails/gondolas. It add's up quick

As a Swiss, i would add just one thing (sorry to break the holiday spirit with something serious, but I think it's really important and it doesn't matter which country you travel to), you should know the emergency numbers (you never know what could happen) so for switzerland it is: 112->european emergency number if you should remember 1, it's this one 144->medical emergency 118->fire brigade 117->police 140->tow truck 1414->REGA (airborn ambulances(better to call 144)) 1415->air glaciers(airborn rescue in the alps, still better to call 144) 147->psychological support (normally for young people) 143->psychological support (for everybody) 911->I believe it's working but not sure of this, if it work it send you at the same call center than 117 But to talk about something more joyful, I think the most beautiful thing about going to Switzerland is nature, so I really recommend you go hiking, it's beautiful.

I'm swiss and those phydical sim flatrates are a good price, very good actually! Well, for Switzerland anyways. I would have guessed they are more expensive 🤷‍♂️ And.....if you travel to Switzerland, use the train and don't feel of it as wasted time. There isn't a more comfortable and easy way to travel and actually see Switzerland. Most routes, even city to city, are gorgeous 👍️

Even if they have air conditioning, it is usually very weak, because they will explain to you how their buildings are green and designed in a way that keeps them cool, but in my experience you have to imagine that they are cool, jajajajaja.

By chance, do you have a recommended list of sites to see in Switzerland for a first time visitor to the country ? Something to pair with this video ?

Good info, tho this could be a good series, than just like the other travel videos where it's basically a guide to locations and activities and stuff. This really focuses on the small things that would be annoying if not handled

Great video thank you. I am currently travelling in England. I bought. Train tickets ahead of time. Are the Swiss rail tickets cheaper ahead of time? I found British rail up to 50% cheaper. One bag travel. You are amazing, I honestly could not get everything in a 40L knapsack and a carryon. Perhaps one day. Cheers Vancouver Island currently in York

Yes there are some cheaper tickets available if you book in advance. You are bound to a particular train though and all normal tickets are not bound to a particular train which can be nice and allow you a bit of flexibility.

Liked 90% o the video but was surprised you talked about exchanging cash at the airport. Isn't it the most expensive way of getting CHF? I understand wanting to have a backup in case your debit card gets blocked. Then exchange your CAD, EUR and USD in the city. Ideally, though, use your bank debit card to withdraw money from an ATM. Even better, use either WISE or EQ Bank cards (for Canadians) to get better rates.
