We traveled to New Orleans in August during hurricane season and one of the hottest months of the year. We stayed at the beautiful Roosevelt New Orleans Waldorf Astoria, found out what Bourbon Street is really like after dark, and went looking for alligators in the Bayou at Honey Island Swamp.

I appreciate your vlog and opinion. I am heading to NOLA Sunday for my 18th trip. Couple points : it’s “burr -bon” street WEDDING PARADE : a “second line “ very common in weekends (always weddings going on ) I think you put a bit too much emphasis on how crazy /negative bourbon street can be , it is normally not all trash and vomit . It’s a big city so it is gonna be dirty and old. That’s the charm of NOLA. But yeah bourbon street after 1 am is pretty drunk and can get crazy but it is just a good time most of the time . Bourbon street and about 7 blocks of bourbon are the crazy part. The other dozen streets are cool and fun but not a neon party. Jackson square , canal street, etc. you could have shown /seen more.

I wanted to wander the city and take more pictures of the pretty buildings. I really did want to walk more see more but it was so HOT. I just couldn’t do more than we did. But maybe next time. This was my honest first impressions of Bourbon street at night. But I think we think the same thing about bourbon street. Wild and crazy at night but all part of the unique character of NOLA. No other place quite like it. Thanks for watching!

@@mahoganydrive Yeah, it's hard to stay and wander around with that heat. My first two times were in July (Essence Fest), but the last time was in November, it was SOOOO much better! You can walk around for miles! Thanks for the vlog! I enjoyed it.

Cute couple. Fun video. 3 days is not enough time to enjoy NOLA. I have visited NO in August, so I understand your pain. It can be unbearably HOT. Be in there in a week, can't wait. LOVE the food, history and culture. I Live in Las Vegas, so drinking isn't that important. I call NO The Dirty Las Vegas. Thank you for sharing your time there.

The wedding parade is called a "second line parade." You book it with one of several groups that organize them and they are legally considered a parade. And they aren't cheap. Figure about $2,000 for a 45 minute long parade march through the Quarter. For food, everyone should do their research before visiting. The dive bars most certainly don't offer the goods of New Orleans. Lafitte's is a great bar with a lot of character, great staff and great pours/drinks. Bourbon Street has three lifecycles. Morning (cleanup and setup), afternoon (family time), evening (adults only time). The vomit smell is mostly rancid beer spilled all over the place. It's a dying city (never truly recovered from Katrina) but the history, architecture, food, culture and wonderfully friendly locals make every visit a wonderful one as long as you know what you're doing, where you're at and where to avoid.

Thanks for sharing about the second line parade! I was really curious but I never got around to looking it up. New Orleans is so unique. It’s so sad all that it’s been through. Agree, It does still have a lot to offer and I’m glad we went!

Brand new shoes in New Orleans? I don't know which is worse. New shoes can make your feet swell and hurt because they aren't broken in yet Or the fact that you have brand new pretty white shoes walking around in one of the dirtiest cities in the countries, not to mention what they are going to pick up and bring home with you.

Ugh! I know. Bourbon street was so gross. But my feet were killing me! I wasn’t sure if it could get worse. I definitely put them in a plastic bag in my luggage and I’m rinsing them off before I wear them again. I’ll never know about the guests who had our room before us but we did not wear our shoes in our hotel room nor do we do so in our house.
