To insure or not to insure.. that is the question. Sonia gives you the answer in this week's Sonia's Travels.

This is good information about why one should get travel insurance. I know of horror stories in other countries if you need surgery or hospital stays. But Nationwide won't cover any travel more than 30 days. That is a little confining for us lately. Does any one else have other recommendations for other companies?

We got insurance for an overseas trip and were very happy we did. The night before we were supposed to leave, the transportation department went on strike and there were very few flights leaving the country. The travel insurance helped us to rebook our flight, paid the extra costs of the additional flights, and paid for the extra night at a hotel.

I always go back and forth about whether travel insurance is necessary. You make great points! It sure would suck to get deathly sick right before a trip!

Travel insurance is not something most of us need. For the most part it's a waste of money. If you're relatively young and in good health, that alone will negate the medical portion. I've traveled all over the world and only had a bag lost once, it was brought to my hotel the following day. I would only buy insurance if it was an exotic trip, say Africa or some sort of trip where there would be a high risk of injury. Going to New York, Chicago or other similar city, you don't need it. Save your money. Nice info-mercial though.

Hi Sonia! Please could you do a travel tip video on laundry? I would love to travel light & try the different combination of outfits advice from your other videos, but just wondering how to fit laundry time into my travel schedule, and also the different laundry options (how to wash, how to dry, how often for a 2 week trip, etc.) when hotel laundry is too expensive and/or no laundromats nearby.

This is not a video about critically exploring why you should buy insurance or not. This is a video of propaganda for the insurance companies.

Disagree with those who say travel insurance isn't worth it. What if you get sick overseas. Not sure about coverage for USA citizens, but for non US folks visiting the US, hospital costs are astronomical. What if you have to get flown home from somewhere. What if there's a delay or loss of baggage. It does happen, and sometimes takes days to get back. Have a friend who had to wait about 3-4 days overseas for her luggage. Basically, if you can't afford the travel insurance, you can't really afford the holiday (vacation).

All very well for you youngsters, but at 82 it is very, very difficult to find an insurer to cover you, and if you do they want a major medical check and an excess often equal to the total cost of the t.ravel

I always ensure my trips, even the domestic ones. I've had experience an airline misplacing my luggage and the idea that I might miss a trip due to illness (I've had the flu while on vacation! ) or need medical treatment and/or evacuation while in a foreign nation frightens me. Ran into a woman in Aruba on her way home after a slip and fall accident that broke her leg on the first day there! Insurance doesn't cost that much. It's worth it.

I feel like there's always exclusions. So it's kinda like a scam! So we should buy insurance elsewhere other than the little insurance offer that always ask us when we book the flight?

I really need some help. I'm going on an 8 hour flight soon and I'm dreading it soooo much! I love boats, cars, trains, you name it, but definitely not planes! I get so nauseous and incredibly bored! Anything I can do to pass the time and make it go by faster? Thanks!

Children can fly by themselves, but you may want to check with the airport if there is a form or waiver that you need to fill out. But yes, they can.
