⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

On the few occasions that I’ve been in those home-buying scenarios, I have a ritual right before placing the first offer: I stop to do a hard dive on “counting my blessings” and being deeply grateful for my life in that current moment. I sit with that for a while and then say to myself: “I am about to ride an emotional rollercoaster that’s out of my control. Thankfully, if I lose out on the property, it won’t impact my current amazing life. Worst case…. I’m back to ‘square one’, where blessings abound and I still have my savings.” Things have a way of working out.

Guys, we went through exactly the same heartbreak when we were about to buy our house. On the day of exchange the seller called us asking for more money. That was 30 years ago and we found this house a week or so later. We have been very happy since. Don't worry. As we say in Brazil, nothing happens on the eve. Things to be mindful of (since you aren't used to colder countries). Be aware that country roads with big hills will be very fun driving in the snow. Also, make sure that your driveway isn't too long - snow shoveling is not fun after the first couple of times. If your driveway is long, you will probably need a snow blower, snow plow etc. Make sure your driveway isn't too steep, or you may have to park at the end of the road whenever it snows.

I have to tell you, I believe a lot of times those bids are not real that they have. They know what your limit is because the realtors do talk to each other and they will do the bidding wars just to get you to go up to your limit. My husband and I went through that and we did the same thing you did by stopping fairly close to our limit. A couple days later they called us saying the other people pulled out and it did make us believe that it was not a real bidding war. So we told them that we were no longer interested and then we watched the property sit for another little while. Then we went back and offered them their beginning asking price again and they took it. We got the house and we were very happy about it but at the same time we were angry at the feeling of being manipulated or at least they tried to manipulate us. Of course that may just be the way things work in America because that's where we live and the realtors often talk to each other and want to get the biggest commission they can so they will work with each other. So hold out for that dream home. And don't put yourself into a bind and maybe even have a little extra money to put into some renovations. Best of luck and blessings to you both. 29:27

We lost out on 5 houses during our home buying process in 2015. I know the market had only gotten more insane since then, but it was so stressful in the moment. The only thing that kept me going was to know that the right thing was meant to happen. Sure enough, our house wound up being perfect for us, in the perfect location, and with a perfect neighborhood and community. I’m glad you also have the same attitude to know what’s meant to be will be!

I meant to post this comment after your last video but as you said, it really comes down to how a place makes you feel. When I've house-hunted in the past, I knew within seconds of arriving and entering if it was where I wanted to be. And even after thinking through it logically, if those feelings are still there, it's the place to bid on and potentially go on another rollercoaster ride. You definitely learned from this experience and YOUR dream home will present itself. Not only your dream home, but the home you are MEANT to have.❤

Good tip! I actually had the advantage that the realtor didn't have time and the owner showed me the house. And we had a really good click which I believe might have worked to my advantage. The highest bid doesn't always win as in Sweden it is always the seller that decides who will get the house.

This is a good place to live, I know, I live not that far from where you zoomed in on the map. People sound a bit negative in the comments. The winters are long, they are also beautiful and the stars are everywhere on clear nights. There is a great sense of freedom with all the space around you, the nature, wildlife, lakes and mountains. The houses are built for the cold, Swedish homes are usually warm inside, the coldest I ever been iinside a house were the winters I spent in Ireland. The community up here is great, good neighbours are important. Mosquitoes aren't really an issue as long as there is a bit of open land around the house so there can be a bit of a breeze. I love this place on Earth. ❤
