Traveling only with a personal item | Minimalist packing video: 4 days in a small backpack

Hi guys! Here's a video of what I packed for 4 days in Warsaw, Poland in January 2022, traveling only with a personal item. We traveled to Poland for a long weekend trip and we flew with Ryanair. Ryanair only allows a personal item as free luggage so I decided to just bring my Fjällräven Kånken backpack. It was a tight squeeze but definitely possible haha!
I usually travel with my trusty Osprey Farpoint 40, but since this trip was only 4 days, I didn't feel that I needed more than this. Packing light for cold climate is more challenging than for warm weather, but in this video I'll show you what's in my personal bag for this trip and how I managed to travel very efficiently (and cheap!) only with a personal item.

Milla, that's great! I also travel in recent years in low cost airlines. Usually for longer so add Priority for the bigger case just like your Osprey. Also use packing cube. It is amazing how little we really need when traveling! Thanks for a lovely video!

Thanks Rony, always nice to see you here in the comments! And yes, we really don't need that much but if I would go for a little bit longer time, I would probably upgrade to be able to take my Osprey backpack as well since it does give some more flexibility when packing :)

I've noticed people using small bumbags which Ryanair doesn't seem to care so much about 🙈 But usually I just hide the small purse inside my jacket just in case 😂

Wow! Packing with just a backpack is such a brave move especially if you're going to travel for too long! one thing that I learned and wanted to share with you is to look for a duffle bag that best fits your luggage and has all the wonderful features a bag can have especially in plane travel use. I'm using Nomad Lane's Bento Bag and it's a good choice.

Thanks! For a longer trip I would definitely take my Osprey Farpoint 40, but since we were only gone for 4 days I didn't need a bigger bag. The bento bag seems like a good choice as well, I just always prefer backpacks since they're so convenient to carry :)

If a camera & the accessories to go with it isn't something that you value then for sure use that space for other things! For me personally, camera gear is essential on my travels for content creation. So "valuable space" is a subjective question - pack what's important to you. ☺️🙌🏼

Thanks! It was a challenge but certainly doable 😂 Packing light is just more convenient in my opinion and also helps me travel on a budget as some airlines only allow you to bring a personal item if you don't want to pay extra. My top tips would be to use packing cubes and ditching the "what if" clothes 😄 Packing this minimal for such a short trip is quite easy but try doing it for a longer trip because that's even a bigger challenge haha 😂

I've been getting rid of most of my liquids too, and recommend a dry deodorant. I've found it works better than a spray/roll on.

Nice, changing liquid to solid cosmetics is so convenient and they seem to last longer too! 😊Which deodorant are you using? I've been trying a few but they don't work that great for me since I do sweat quite a lot from time to time. 😅

i am trying to find a men's solid deodorant in a smaller size but can't seem to find anything good. i like the L'occitane Cedrat but the packaging is too big especially when you have so limited space like in this video... i feel like men's cosmetics is lacking in solids department. maybe Lush has something. anyway... any suggestions?

⁠@@myflyingkidneyI use a Dove men+care stick deodorant in the scent clean and fresh when I travel. If it’s a stick deodorant, it doesn’t count as a liquid

Hi! It's from a department store here in Finland, but I believe Amazon sells similar hard cases. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I really like the Kånken backpack, I take it with me on almost every trip nowadays. ☺

I think I'll make my own backpack with the exact measures that are allowed by Ryanair. These Kanken backpacks are 5 cm thinner than permitted (15 cm. vs 20 cm.). I'll also dress in layers.

Yes for sure there are backpacks that are more ''efficient'' in terms of space. The Kånken backpack is rather small. I've used the Osprey Sportlite 25 liter backpack on Ryanair flights and that has worked without any issues as well, even though that backpack is a bit too big when packed full. 😊

Thanks, I did! Yes they did, had no issues with it :) I also carried my winter jacket and camera as loose items and that was fine.

I've only had the classic version so I'm not able to compare 😊 But I think the laptop kånken is a bit more spacious and has a little bit better organizations + more comfortable straps so that would be a good option too! I like the classic for just carrying small amount of stuff since the straps can get a big uncomfortable if you carry a lot of heavy stuff but it's still doable 😊

Kånkeniin myydään irrallisia juomapullotaskuja, mihin menee paksumpikin pullo. Kiinnittyy sivutaskuun tukimekanismilla. :)

Moi, kiitos vinkistä! Oon kyllä nähnyt tuon irrallisen juomapullotaskun mutta en ole vielä nähnyt tarvetta hankkia sitä. Yleensä saan juomapullon hyvin mahtumaan repun sisään, kun harvoin tulee reissattua pelkällä repulla... Ehkä se voisi kuitenkin olla hyvä olemassa näitä tilanteita varten :)

@@MillaExplores ostin äidille tuollaisen taskun, ja hän pitää siinä vesipullon lisäksi milloin mitäkin - usein niitä juttuja joihin pitää päästä helposti ja nopeasti käsiksi kuten hanskoja, sateenvarjoa tai -takkia, aurinkolaseja jne. Sinänsä näppärä viritys, että se ei vie repusta sisätilaa, toisin kuin nuo repun omat taskut, jos niihin laittaa esim. ison juomapullon.☺️

Hello😊 i have the exact same kanken (classic one) and am also gonna fly with ryanair so hopefully it fits! btw were you allowed to take the crossbody bag on board? The airline says only 1 personal item so im confused..

Hi Petra, thanks for watching! I was able to take the crossbody bag on board, but I've seen people hide their smaller things under their jacket etc so it won't show. I think it might depend a little bit on who's checking so it might be good to hide it a little bit 😄
