Two months in America with a 20L Kånken Backpack | What's in my travel bag? | Minimalist Packing

I'm a photographer and newbie filmmaker, and from 5th August - 7th October, I was travelling America - with just a 20L backpack. In this video, I show you what I took with me, talking about the benefits of packing ultra light, proving that it is possible to travel as a creative without taking a ton of gear with you. I managed to fit my laptop and a DSLR in without any problems - as well as all of the clothes and toiletries I needed for my trip.

Most travelers seem to only pack black clothes so I love how colorful your clothes were! especially that embroidered yellow dress

Colourful clothes are a big part of my style, so I would be very sad if I could only wear black for two months :(( I was so relieved to find a way I could take my style with me!!!

What our different regions call items is always amuzing. Jumper vs sweater. Boot vs trunk. But swim “costume” sounded odd to me until I really broke down us calling it a swimsuit. Suit? Like really? WTF. 🤣🤣🤣. Amazing packing of such a small bag. Especially considering you took paper books.

Lovely packing video! I watch quite a lot of minimalist packing content on here, and yours is by FAR the most colorful. Love the dresses and dungarees formula. I've made a note to focus on a few favorite pieces to re-wear over and over. It's a great strategy! Also, I love that you've made an effort to have reusable items, handkerchief, menstrual cup, etc. It makes a big difference. I've never traveled with such little amount of underwear (I'd usually bring 5 for that length of trip), but that's just because I don't want to have to sink wash them EVERY night. It can be done, but it's one of those things that's a trade-off.

Wow, a couple years ago I traveled to Egypt with just a cheapo backpack to get a diving license and of course to relax and sunbath. Different backpack, but the Kanken looks super with it opening just like a suitcase.

Thank you for that instructive video :) I'll take notes to start traveling someday, maybe we'll cross our path by chance. Also, you remind me of someone that has the same stuff and wears the same dungarees as you, but she travels with a baby guitar to sing her songs. Neat and compact, nice. Assuming this allows you to traveling with carry-on only, how did you get a sewing kit & nail clippers through security? I'd also suggest adding a basic med-kit in your bag.

My biggest problem with travelling with menstrual cup (for more than a cycle) is the challenge of sanitising it between cycles. I usually boil mine after washing, but I think that some people might be squicked out if I was to boil it in a pot in a communal kitchen or similar... How did you deal with sanitising yours on this trip?

ahhh yep this is a bit tricky - I think I put mine in a mug of water and put it in the microwave for 6 mins, but another way to do it could be to bring along / buy some hydrogen peroxide, make up the solution and leave ur cup overnight in a jam jar or similar filled with it

I know people who use a pacifier style steam sterilizer

Many don't boil theirs cause it could damage the material. An alternstive is using sterilising tablets. Can't add a link cause my comment will get deleted, but you can find for instance Milton sterilisng tablets at Boots

It depends on the size of the books, I used it for school but sometimes it was really hard to fit all the books because the backpack has his proper form and a book doesn't fit in a strange position 😅 I hope I have been helpful even though my English was not very good✌️
