Yes! We love places like this. It is always fascinating and educational. I love that they had so many actual historical houses from 3 or 4 hundred years ago.I am used to seeing re-creations - but it was pretty awesome that they took historic houses, dismantled them, moved the pieces to Virginia and then rebuilt them here. Pretty cool experience. Thanks for watching!

This was a great chance to spend some quality time with our Moms. As they age, we are constantly reminded that our time with them is not unlimited. This train ride really made me think about how much my dad would have enjoyed this experience. But he passed away unexpectedly a few years ago and I miss him terribly. Trying to make the most of the time we have here. Thanks for watching! - Alice

@@trvlnthru It's wonderful you could get this time with them, getting older and losing parents is heartbreaking. So sorry about the loss of your Dad. I worked Video Production with my Dad, so I think of him a lot when I'm filming and editing ❤

Love these kinds of museums. Living history museums are my favorite. The golf carts were smart, and what a fun way to entertain your mom.

This place is too cool. Loved the house with the detached chimney. Doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

I love places like. Usually the ones we go to go back only to the 1800’s. Cool to see how things were done. Those Cats do run the town there. Great idea with the Golf Cart because this place is huge. The interpreters are usually my favorite of these places. Drjve In are always so fun. Jack has missed out. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting and fun museum tour, Jack and Alice. Loved the silver tea sets! Golf carts are a great way to get around on such a large property. (Dave's mother comes along with us too) Interesting learning about how the folks would have lived back then. The volunteers and these living museums always do a wonderful job all out of their love for the history. Great to see the younger folks taking part too! Some great interactive displays. I never realized that they built chimneys that way back then, but I can see the logic. Seems that the fence isn't meant to keep the sheep in, but the wolves out. 🤣🤣But I see a big flaw! It's great to see a Drive In theater still around. Loved coming along with you both!

We have some excellent living history museums near us; Old World Wisconsin is a really good one. Two others that we have visited and really enjoyed are Colonial Williamsburg and Mystic Seaport. I think the thing that makes these living history museums so good is the interpreters that truly bring the history to life.

Excellent video and very cool place! I love how it takes you through so many places and times throughout history. The cat and the sheep added a nice touch. The sanitarium looked spooky. Hopefully, someone will do something like turn it into a haunted attraction, and it won't get demolished. It's always a fun learning experience to see how life was back then. The drive-in also looked like a great time. I have never been to one myself.

I was trying to think of what they could do with the sanitarium. Apparently it is filled with asbestos which complicates things. But this was a very fascinating living museum. We loved that they disassembled houses in Europe, sailed them across an ocean and then reassembled them in a valley in Virginia. That is quite a ride. Thanks for watching - and for taking the time to comment!

Yeah, how do they pull off tearing down and rebuilding a house like that?

I can't even imagine how it is possible. And then how do you get all the pieces back in the exact correct position when you are ready to put them back together?

I actually would love to tour abandoned buildings, that old sanitarium included. But my husband keeps reminding me that it is probably unsafe and in most cases constitutes illegal trespassing. So I never do go check out abandoned places. But yeah that sanitarium seems like it was a bad place when it was in use. We did learn a lot at the Frontier Culture Museum. It was cool to see all the historic buildings they shipped over from Europe. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Thanks for watching - and for taking the time to comment!

@@trvlnthru it would be cool to see & hear stories from those places but i agree most of abandoned places have high levels of toxins for sure.

Greta history how the early Colonists farmed and lived as well as the Slaves. Love the Irish Forge and farm house. It just goes to show how many migrated to escape Religious persecution. Love the Asylum. Medication revolutionised mental health and most of these institutions were closed down. This would be a great place to explore and I can see why you spent 3 hours there. Jack, cannot believe you have not been to a Drive inn Movie. Thank you for taking us along Alice and Jack. Have a wonderful week.
