Wow. When I was a kid we just put on a radio play (or 5) I liked and I looked out the window and made up stories in my mind. I was totally fine with that. I learned to be able to just sit there and wait to arrive. I feel like today, kids are taught to always need something to entertain them.

FYI, Lake Tahoe grocery shopping is super expensive and choices are limited. Have you ever considered books on dvd or downloading library audio books? They really help to pass the time on long road trips and sharpen up listening skills.
