Gooday one and all and this week the climb towards Harecastle Tunnel at Kidsgrove continues, with Aslan & I steadily but surely adding yet more locks to the 'scoreboard'.
Fortunately for me, I encounter a generous line of fellow boaters 'and' viewers, who are keen to lend a hand - due to the unpredictable (and quite frankly dangerous) nature of these narrow locks, I'm more than happy to accept their assistance.
Along the way, I moor up at a pleasant, tranquil spot for the night, only discovering in the morning that I'm next to a golf driving range - someone needs to work on their attrocious 'hook' I think.
More locks follow the next day and at one in particular, I enjoy a chance encounter with some fellow Narrowboat KZfaqr's, Richard & Fran from 'Floating Our Boat'.

I find it so fascinating that this 200 y/o (?) lock technology is still still running strong. The inventors and builders would be so proud if they knew. Nice snapshots. The colors are so vivid. Thanks again for sharing your adventures :)

I love it when you pull out the Leica Kevin! I’ve said it before but I love the images that you post, that camera has an amazing sensor, coupled with a photographer with a good eye makes for some great shots with a Velvia quality about them

Love watching these narrow boat travels. I watch before going to bed as it helps calm me down. Wish I was younger as I'd travel to the UK and hire a boat for a week. Just keep enjoying yourself on the canals and showing us the countryside. Thanks

I love it when the narrow boat people I am following meet up. All of you are nice people from my perspective and I love seeing you meet up once in a while and warmly greet. It makes me feel like we are all neighbors! I also smile at all the NICE people you are meeting and are who helping you through those locks. You are in beautiful country, and it seems that the kindness and beauty is soothing your soul. No way can you expect to not become recognizable…. Have a great rest of this day. It is a bit of a blustery day here at 8,600 ft altitude in the Rocky Mountains. A little too windy/cold for me to want to work outside in my kitchen garden as I did yesterday. So, I am baking….

Kevin, i’m very much enjoying the new camera angles you’re exploring. Camera positioned on top of the lock as you enter was nice. As a stateside viewer, I’d love if you could go into some detail explaining history of canal boats and the canal system or maybe some of the pros/cons of continuous cruising.

Kevin I have to let you know about something. I didn’t realize how much I was learning about England when watching your show. We all just quietly trudge down the canals with you as you occasionally make your remarks about the towns and historical sites and geography, etc. I recently started watching some Antiques Roadshows and am amazed at how much I know about things from your show!! Just today a doll was shown that came from the Salt family. Titus Salt!! I recognized tgat name. And all the potteries and you showing us the abandoned potteries. So many things!!! I want to thank you!! Very much!! I’m from the states and it’s been so fun riding along with Aslan.

Great stuff, plenty of willing helpers along this stretch of the Canal, Shanking a ball over the boundary is something that i keep in my bag of clubs, lucky they missed the windows. Thanks for the effort you take to edit and post these glimpses into life a bit slower.

I'm a Massachusetts Yank who has been watching your channel since its inception. Narrowboating seems a very tranquil way of life - indeed idyllic, but for those damn locks, which appear to be a real pain in the ass. Aslan, with her thumper, is a true beauty.

Cheers Douglas. Locks are just a part of the whole really. The canals couldn't function without them. I supoose now the canals are leisure orientated, it's not so bad. You can always stop, or take a break. In the olden days of commerce though, there wasn't that option. Time was money, as they say.

Well CHEERS Kevin, loved joining you along the canal. I must say, I am so chuffed, you have been taking still photo's on your travels. I remember thinking "way back when" you should be doing that. The one shot I would love to photograph is on still waters and coming upto a bridge with the reflection on the water. So many times that view has appeared in your video's and I sigh at just the sheer beauty of it. Thanks for sharing your travels with us Kevin you do brighten our day. Hiya Kevin. As usual your video was full of everything we need to stay sane in these strange times. Peace and yes, to steal your term, tranquility. The relaxing chug chug of the engine interspersed with delightful birdsong. Even the rattle of the paddle pawls are pleasing to the ear. Oh how I envy you and your lifestyle. So many lovely experiences where random people come to help plus the delight of meeting up with fellow bloggers Rich and Fran too. I was plagued with afterthought all this week because there was I, offering unnecessary advice about going astern. The penny dropped when it hit me that you've been narrowboating for so many wonderful years and in any case, my style of experience is totally different. I'm eagerly looking forward to your next offering. Take good care in the meantime. All the very best from Geordie land where there are no canals Waaah 😭😭

An honest review. Probably if everything was warmer and the pizza cooler thus less greasy it would have been different. For me a Greggs is a egg, ham and salad roll with a sausage roll along with a Ribena is order of the day.

Another grand adventure with you aboard Aslan! I particularly enjoyed the still shots interspersed throughout the video, plus that one lock you entered where you had placed the camera up on something above so that you shot down as you entered the lock, I really enjoyed that bit of video! Meeting so many viewers seems a treat. Then Fran and Rich at a lock, what a joyous occasion for all three of you! I’m looking forward to the rest of the locks and Harecastle Tunnel next time. I’ve just finished lunch, and I’m going to work on my watercolor again. The grand dogs are taking a nap, so I’ve got time to indulge in my creativity, something I realize is a mental health boost.
