In the second episode of "Travels with a Curator," Xavier F. Salomon, Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, takes us to his hometown of Rome. We visit the Castel Sant'Angelo, an important historic site that is often overlooked by tourists. In this video, Xavier explains how the Castel Sant'Angelo's ancient structure experienced transformations over the centuries, and he makes connections to our current pandemic situation and to works of art in The Frick Collection.
To see the Frick's 'Vincenzo Anastagi' El Greco painting in detail, please visit our website: collections.frick.org/objects...

Yes, Tosca is a wonderful opera. Curiously last month we were burglarized. They overlooked the original works of art and other valuable things, but took the custom framed print of you showed of Sarah Bernhardt as Tosca and a few other opera prints. Imagine, opera-loving burglars!

Cellini was quite a character, but probably someone to avoid. Anyone watching this is likely to visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum if they're ever in Vienna, and you will be amazed when you see Cellini's exquisite salt cellar there. Trust me, photographs do not do it justice.

You're right: great artists are not always good people. Caravaggio, for instance, killed a man in a duel, and Michelangelo had an impossible temperament, according to ancient sources.
