Tips on Moving to Mexico from our realtor, Edna!
Edna is a real estate broker who specializes renting and selling homes in the north of Merida, Mexico. We found her randomly when Travis was sending out 112 emails to every broker in town, and we're so glad we did! She was patient, informative and helped us find our gorgeous apartment when we moved to Mexico last November. We've recommended her to everyone who's asked and have ben getting a ton of requests to do a sit-down Q&A with her - and this week she finally had the time! We talk about everything you'll need to rent an apartment, what to expect in the rental process and how to be a good client! If you're here or planning a move and want to get in touch with Edna, her email is edna@thohaus.mx - but please be respectful and only expect to see listings if you're actually IN Merida!

Wish I had the same experience when I dealt with her. She’s very UNPLEASANT! I found her because of this video. I contacted her, told her our needs. She responded saying that she wouldn’t be able to help. Fine. I moved on found someone else to help. Well today my realtor told me that we wouldn’t be able to see a place (apparently it’s Edna’s listing) we liked because Edna said no. That supposedly she already “worked” with me. Which is not true. Idk what her issue is but that rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm getting a deeply unpleasant vibe from her, too! Esp. the way she chortled with delight when the men talked about missing out on a place, and the way she imitated their crestfallen faces. Rubbing it in! Anyway, they found something better. All about the CA$H.

Edna seems like a good person to deal with. I have lived here for over two years and not all real estate agents are like her. She hit the nail on the head when she recommended Airbnb's for when you first arrive. Don't worry if you have to be in an Airbnb for a couple of months or more. I stayed in one for 8 months and it worked out fine. It gives you plenty of time to explore the city and figure out where you want to be. There aren't a lot of tourists now because of Covid so there are lots and lots of great Airbnb's to choose from. When you're ready, then go to Edna. IMHO

Was the AIRbNB expensive for 8 months. I plan on coming to Merida in August to stay for about 3 months. I want to make sure Merida is a good fit for me before moving permanently. I'm a little concerned about the cost for staying in an AirBNB for 3 months. Thank you
@toddruth8312
@toddruth8312 3 жыл бұрын
@@traycee2404 Hi Traycee, go on the airbnb website and you can find the space that suits you. In fact you can know exactly how much it's going to cost because each property will calculate your bill on each property's web page. The only expense not included is the electricity. That is paid separately. An advantage to short term rentals like airbnb is that you can try out different neighborhoods. You can neighborhood hop! Staying for three months doesn't give you a lot of options because most landlords just offer a one-year lease do short-term is the ticket!

So glad this video exists! Really appreciate you uploading this, David and Travis. Such important info! I called Edna upon arriving in Mérida, as my fiancée and I were staying at an AirBnb but looking for a long term rental. Edna was prompt, professional and scheduled a consultation the next day. She spent a good while on Zoom speaking with me, in order to establish exactly what we were looking for and she immediately began looking for quality listings that met our needs. In less than a week-and-a-half we had moved into our home. It’s a beautiful, spacious, furnished townhome in one of the best neighborhoods in Mérida. Not only did she find us a lovely home, but accompanied me through the entire process with the homeowner and lawyer (who are both fantastic) and made sure we were happy and settled in with the keys before signing off on everything. I highly, highly recommend anyone considering staying in Mérida long term to contact Edna Campos. She’s amazing!

This was wonderful, thanks, guys. The way I've always handled security deposit protection for myself is when I say yes to a property I have the agent or landlord do a walk thru with me. I take pictures and document anything that is already worn/damaged/needing repairs and have all parties sign for verification. I'm looking forward to moving to Merida in the Fall once travel clears.

One question that came to mind while watching in respect to where to look...have you thought about doing a video breaking down the different areas of town? What is special or unique about each side of town, what vibe each side has etc. I am moving there, but I am still researching what side of town I want to be in, and I am not clear what area fits me best. The beaches keep getting closer and closer to Merida.😆 Edna claimed they are 15 minutes away. However, most say they are 45 minutes and others say 30 minutes. How close are the beaches on a normal day from Merida and are the beaches more similar to the Jersey shore or Cancun?

There are very few houses for rent that do not accept dogs, regardless of whether they are service dogs, the only problem is that service dogs are not very common here, so you will find places that do not allow you to enter with your Dog, even if you show that it is a service dog, many places accept them, but also many will deny you entry, here is a blind boy who has his service dog and unfortunately many times he has appeared in local newspapers because they deny him the access, so that might be a problem you have to deal with.

Thank you. Thank you so much for moving to México. But here comes the rant: As a mexican who lives in Tijuana I can honeslty say that this "trend" and "cheap" life for you makes ours worst, impossibly worst. So not only we have to compete with USA's economy in order to have access to any kind of housing here in our OWN country right at the border, we also have to compete everywhere else now because you decided it was easier for YOU to up our housing prices. Our minimun wage is 10 times less than your own, and it's already difficult enough to live day by day. Renting a house here in Tijuana tipically starts at 600dlls, while most only earn up to 400dlls in a MONTHLY basis. I know it's not your fault. Not personally. But actively promoting this kind of behaviour only compromises mexican's already endangered quality of life. I do hope you do consider this. You are literally making it impossible for US mexicans to live in our own country. End of rant

Question please- when a US financial institution wants to send you a verification code on your cell phone.....but you now have a Mexican sim card and Mexican phone number....how do you receive the code ? When we leave we hope to cancel our cell service once we get into Mexico. Thx !!!!!

Hm, that's a good question. We still have our US numbers so we're not sure - other than maybe opening a Google Voice number and switching your contact info before you leave, so that way when you get a text it'll go to the GV account and can be checked from any device?

Hello guys I love the channel. I have two questions. First, as gay male myself. I wanted to know how are you treated in Merida society due to your preference. Second.... I never see any night life such as a gay bar or club in any expats videos. Do they exist. Thanks in advance fellas.

Hey Keith! We made a video talking about our experience being gay in Mexico (spoiler alert - it's a non-issue) but as far as clubs and nightlife, we're not entirely sure because most of it has been shutdown since we've arrived due to Covid. We do know there is a gay community in Mérida and are sure there are spots that are more gay-friendly than others, but we haven't been ourselves!
