Heard this song in the walking dead final season and loved it. Now I’m gonna try learn to play it with this video 😅 haven’t picked up a guitar in 6 years lol
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod 5 жыл бұрын
good luck. let me know how it goes. And it was in the Walking Dead? Maybe that helps explain some of why this tutorial has so many hits over other more popular tunes (like the Dylan ones), or maybe Townes is just growing in popularity. But either way...it's awesome how a certain song can just hit you and inspire you to sing or play or do something you havent done in years (or ever). Use music carefully, it's a drug.
@emmarobinson9371

Mike's Music Method yeah it was the theme song to the final season of the telltale games - if you haven’t played them you really should they’re amazing,, And it’s going good, learnt most of it - I just need to figure out how to sing along to it😂😂
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod 4 жыл бұрын
@@emmarobinson9371 ha, singing along is hard to teach. Just do it. Sing it alone. Sing it just strumming the chords on simple down beats. Then sing strumming a pattern. Then sing only picking with the thumb...etc...the concept is just to simplify, get it down, and then increase an element of difficulty. Good luck. Oh...and "isolate and repeat" sing and play the first measure...do that 50 times. Go to measure two. ;)

Mike's Music Method sounds complicated :///// anyway thanks for the help :)
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod 4 жыл бұрын
@@emmarobinson9371 Then make it simple! ;) Can you tap your foot to the rhythm and sing at the same time? Sure! Now just hit the muted guitar strings with a pick every beat. Then strum the chords only on simple down beats. Build up slowly. The end is complicated, but you dont have to be there yet. ;) Would a video break down be helpful?

I said this myself about 15 years ago after a few hard core Travis Lessons. The pure stuff too. My boy Steve Howel (the Backsliders) could play it like a like a baby taking a nap with momma. I said on day to him at my lesson that I really wanted to learn some Merle Travis and he say's you like merle and with out any tinkering around he played about 5 of the tough ones without a mistake. So, after much effort and not really being close to the Master. I noticed that my folk playing in general was so good and I saw a truth, and this is my theory, no not David Haselhof being loved by Norm McDonald, but good guess. It's that most great `folk guitarists are actually failed Travis Pickers. No shame in not playing like Merle. He's the real deal. Plus true Travis Picking is more that what most people call travis picking but I get it as a failed Travis picker. Only One in a Million really can play Travis and you know the difference when you hear someone getting on it. I am just saying this generally on my own experience I haveent seen your other ones yet and I'm, sure they are good but you know what I'm saying it's hard``````````

ha. I hear ya. Merle is a freak of nature. And he does it all with the thumb and the index finger. Crazy. And to be more accurate I should be calling all of this "Piedmont Style" because in no way did Merle invent the idea of the alternating thumb on quarter notes. He just took it in his own crazy direction. Sure, most are "failed" travis pickers. But I'm aiming for being a damn good piedmont picker! God bless ya Dick.

Great tutorial, thanks. You said this was a difficult piece for first timers, would you say a specific country song or artist is best for beginners starting out?
@MikesMusicMethod
@MikesMusicMethod 7 ай бұрын
Andrew, I'm working on cataloging every song I've tabbed out and rating them by difficult, chords used, etc...but it's a tall order. In the meantime if you go to my channel page on youtube, click on Playlists, and check out the Travis Finger Style playlist. The first maybe dozen or so videos are in rough order, and then it's a grab bag after that. The first in the series "the Primer" will be a bit difficult, but it's more to get the 101 taught to you. And then over time you revisit that video and put more and more together. Honestly, that Primer I think is my most important finger picking video.

I think most versions on KZfaq of him playing it he's using a capo on 4th fret and most of the tabs/chords lessons have a capo @4th fret.
