I am new to fire arms, I recently bought myself a M&P 15-22 ar, and a xds 45 acp 4.0 along with a rough rider revolver, I have not fired my guns yet I would like to clean them first. loved your video but just was wondering where you get your cpl, looked at walmart could not find it on there site or is there another one you could recommend? I do love your video you where very informative on what to do with the rough rider thank you very much

@@TightwadTodd Even I have misspoken a time or two. Even I have limited knowledge.. Even I have been wrong. Well, I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken. But you are right... they called them pistols, before they even had more than one bullet in them. A pistol is just a short firearm that can be operated with one hand. Today they use the term to describe semi-auto handguns, but not revolvers. I have no idea why.

@@timhallas4275 Well sir,,Show me a man who says hes never been wrong and ill show you a liar..It really is a petty topic to debate over but it is one of the things on my list of pet peeves....It bothers me when some Johnnie come lately, berates others from using the term, when it is historically an accurate term for revolvers..The man who posted the video,is obviously a victim of such as he kept correcting himself for using the term and hence my post in support of yours in telling him it was in fact accurate and acceptable..I have witnessed this occurrence on the internet as well as in person..It seems as though many take it upon themselves to re define things as they learn, instead of seeking out experienced people to learn from...I see it in everything i am involved with...I think the differentiating terms may have begun with Col Cooper as he used them to differentiate the types of firearms to his students and some took it as the Gospel definition and ran with it..No disrespect to Col Cooper in any form..

I know I am late to respond on this video, by a couple of years. But, in case anyone watching this buys a new one: When you first get it, the action (pulling the hammer back all 4 clicks) will seem a little "gritty". I've noticed this on a lot of lesser expensive single action revolvers. I usually sit there working the hammer / action repeatedly while watching a TV show or something. Just make sure it isn't loaded first. Also, you might wanna take off the wood grips (just a single screw) and make sure the spring in there is oiled.

TY, rough riders are one of the best bang for the buck colt replicas out there . . . heart these, also if walking / riding with it loaded have the hammer sit on a empty chamber even though it has a safety unlike the super accurate colt copies. sometimes have to grind / paint sight to adjust for kentucky windage (so I don't have to kentucky windage it so much). Otis sells a cable like a bore snake run with 3/8" attachments for brush and eye hole jag . . . I used to run a rod down the muzzle, attach it at the breech, then pull it, so I could get direction of bullet. But some peeps with more exp @ my local gun range (LGR) tell me rim fires are less senstive to this than center, AND some peeps clean by back n forth brushing the bore so maybe its not as much diff, but I like to run direction of bullet travel. Same guys have had rough riders for 10 years and shot tons of rounds though them. They say may need a barrel replacement but they can still plink cans like when they first got it, so . . . an lever actions go henry.

Just a little tip. Keep in mind that these frames are made of Zammak, which is not really an issue as far as strength is concerned, but since it wears easily, it is a good idea to makr sure to use a good lube on all the friction points in the frame. Personally, I use a good high ZDP oil treatment, just a light coat on the pin and a small dab with a q tip in the sockets. This will significantly reduce the wear, and make sure that you can enjoy your revolver for a long time.

ok sweet, im watching on my phone so i cant tell if it has the pin or not, but the threaded barrels are the ones to buy, older ones can have a pressed fit barrel and after 4k-10k rds somewhere or a drop or fall etc the barrel will become loose, you need to use some sleeving epoxy but jb weld loctite 609 etc will work to fix them, i have fixed several so far for others this way, seems to be a common problem on the older rough riders.

I just bought a rough rider and after shooting it, I cleaned it with Hoppe's CLP and it left white spots on the ejector tube assembly. Basically seems to be taking off some of the finish. I only used wipes on this part, no brush. No problems with any other part of the revolver. Is this due to the cheap nature of this part?

If the hammer is fully down and there is a round chambered and the "Pistol" falls on the hammer it can hit the firing pin sending a round. People would usually have 5 rounds loaded leaving the empty one under the hammer. The safety prevents that from happening so it's safe to have 6 loaded.

I don't know if it can use the 22 Magnum cylinder but, I would like to get one if mine is like yours! i have emailed Heritage 2 times with the model number asking them if it can support the magnum cylinder they never responded to me I checked their website and put in the model number it says it "cant be found" thank you for any help my barrel does say for "caliber .22 cal" doesn't specifically say 22LR

As stated Good job. You said you make these for the first time revolver buyer well :) here I am. I got the 16 inch barrel version. I think Im gonna have to use my Otis Gun Cleaning kit to get down that barrel. Mine DIDNT come with a manual on cleaning. I do have alot of the stuff you have in the video BUT... I was scared to use anything on the exterior because of fears of messing up the blueing. You used Rem Oil so I think Ill use that. Ive got both Break free and Rem Oil but my favorite is Hoppes 9. However... The General Solvent and not Bore just Bore Cleaner is hard to find for me lately. I think I have a 22 cal bore snake but I remember. Ive only got 12 rounds through mine got it on a trip the range. I had an issue though.. Yes Im aware you are supposed to clean a gun before you shoot it but I was too tempted to not shoot it. So having never owned one when I fired the first shot something really interesting happened "Nothing". It struck the round but nothing happened. I waited and fired again all other shots fired fine. I unloaded the shells and checked them for strike marks ALL had marks interestingly enough there was never a shot sound...on that first round yet all shell casings had no bullets in them. I reloaded the revolver and once more pulled the trigger the exact same thing happened only this time the first rounds bullet was still in there. Before I fired again I held it pointed down range suspecting a hangfire within a minute or two nothing happened and I knew the powder wasnt going to shoot it so I then unloaded the gun and inspected the round. It again had a strike mark where the firing pin had struck but it failed to ignite. I informed the gun shop and they had me take it over to the smith. The smith after handling it a min or two gathered some remington and took it out on the range where he fired another 6 shots all of them fired. He explained to me that CCI Mini mags 22LR is made of a harder material casing and that sometimes the firing pin will fail to strike them with enough force to fire the shot. He told me swap to remington and see if it continued he said if it still does it its the gun. Im going to give it a good cleaning and fire it again soon. In the meantime thanks for the video.
