For me, this is absolutely where the show takes off and starts to find its own identity. Moffat starts making his official mark on the franchise with an absolute banger of a story and the introduction of a fan favorite character. The rest of the season is a truly enjoyable ride.

I mean technically Moffat started making his mark on the franchise during the Wilderness Years. He wrote a few short stories, but his biggest contribution during that time is probably the comedy special "The Curse of Fatal Death."

@@bookswithike3256 Yeah, that's why I qualified it with official. Curse Of Fatal Death is amazing.

Someone probably already told you but you might recognize 'Captain Jack Harkness' as 'Malcolm Merlyn' from Arrow. And he is eye candy, but also dance candy and ear candy - if that is a thing - for he played some major leading roles in musicals for Andrew Lloyd Webber.

@@TravisViews his name is John barrowman. You probably won’t see him again. Look up the scandal. Sad that people can’t just behave respectfully. Edit: you won’t see him again in new things. Arrow was after this.

This two parter was the first time I actually got scared watching Doctor Who. It’s so well done. I can’t wait for you to see the ending!

Spock was a very popular Star Trek character of the Vulcan species. He and Captain Kirk were the reason/logic and passion respectively of the crew. Spock would often scan for stuff in the episodes.

This episode and the next episode, which continues this one, are two of my most favorite episodes of the entire series, and certainly my favorites of this season. I have watched these two episodes SO many times. They're just both SO good. Definitely agree that this is the best episode yet of this season.

So this episode and the second part are written by Steven Moffat NOT Russel T Davies (who was the main showrunner with New Who from Season 1-4). Moffat occasionally dipped in from time to time mainly with two-part stories that showed AMAZING and HORRIFYING monster concepts. This is the first! Eventually, RTD would leave after season 4 and during the Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi era, Moffat would be the showrunner. It kinda went downhill a little from there but you're in for a treat if you like the monster and writing in this one! For sure this two-parter has to be in the top ten Doctor Who episodes of all time! And don't worry, they are PLENTY MORE scary Moffat monsters in his closet for you to see!

Moffat is a great writer, but as a showrunner, he didn't quite collect the level of talent around him that Davies did (though there are some brilliant exceptions).

*Series Also, Peter Capaldi's era ended on a high note, Series 10 was phenomenal. RTD is still my favourite showrunner, with Midnight and Waters of Mars as some of the best written episodes of television I've ever witnessed. I must say though, Moffat started strong, and ended strong.

Not only 2 of the best episodes of all of Doctor Who -- Original and New -- but 2 of the best episodes of TV ever. So creepy! AND with Captain Jack, so there is that. 😏 Enjoy Part 2! !

I’ve been waiting two weeks for this 🤩🥳 also rose wants the doctor to use more flashy, obviously “alien” tools, a la the character Mr Spock from Star Trek, an alien from another sci fi tv show

I’ve got a plague doctor mask(has kinda a steampunk look to it) that I wear on Halloween sometimes but that doesn’t come near close to as creepy as the costumes in this episode!(and the next obviously)
