haha - locked and unlocked until those 40 dollar servos go bad ;). Love my TRX-4, but after a year every junky screw on the frame is rusting and hi priced custom servos are keeping me from ever buying another one. I ended up permalocking the diffs when the servos went bad. Now the transmission servo is starting to go so the truck will make horrible grinding noises unless you toggle it a couple times. Gonna have to replace that one because its pretty important to the truck. Anyway, I think both trucks are good for the money, but would choose a Vaterra Ascender over the TRX-4. The Vaterra has double the battery life (not as many electronics, less gearing in the axles/less friction, smaller motor), and has very little issues with rust. My Ascender is a year older than my TRX-4, and has way more usage time on it, and yet hasn't cost me a dollar since I bought it. Since its cheaper than the TRX-4 by about 50 bucks, and almost as capable (like it can do 95 percent of what the TRX-4 can do) I would say its a better buy. As far as the CC-01, they are definitely purpose built for light off roading and trail running. I love my CC-01 trucks (especially my old school unimog) and take them for walks all the time. That Unimog has about 100 actual miles on it and not one problem. I think you are totally right - if you have the money get THEM ALL :). They all do different stuff and do it well. Just know that the TRX-4 may require some replacement parts annually. Anyway - here is a crappy video of my ascender and my TRX-4 when it was brand new - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLyDhqapxtXYd5c.html. I think I mentioned in this video that I was concerned about the electronics. Guess my fears were confirmed. Oddly I haven't had a problem with the steering servo, which was what everyone else was running into.

Coool! After the blue is painted you have to overpaint it with black (Tamiya PS-5) to get a good effect.

Tamiya has a long lasting experience with polycarbonate bodies, so I would say their bodies are outstanding in appearance and quality. I would have prefered the whole new bunch of CC-bodies (Bronco, Landcruiser, Mercedes G-Type, Land Rover) would have been hardbodies as the Pajero/Montero, Wrangler, Isuzu and CR-V. Yes they are top-heavy, but much nicer (and more repairable) than the thin lexan shells.

True, but the hard plastics are much more expensive too....

The CC-01 Defender have 24,2 cm wheelbase, do you know the wheelbase of the 1:1 Defender 90?

@@Matteomeier it should be 90 inch (2286mm), so this wheelbase is also slightly longer (1:9,44 Scale) but this is nothing compared to the Traxxas difference. The Bronco has a shorter wheelbase, why didn't they use this instead for the Defender? But this is just another Scale fail in their product line. Their 1:16 Models aren't half the size of the 1:10 (1:8 more real) scale, also not in right scale if you really compare with 1:10 to 1:16. Tamiya does it much better considering that they use a Chassis which is pretty old and it only has two wheelbases possible. TRX-4 is designed for it so why didn't they just do it right?

But my purpose was to compare this two RC Defenders, to show the similarities of two on the first view very different models. And as I said in the video, also on real off road trucks are big customizations possible. So many real off road cars are higher, wider or have extreme big tires.

As a plstic model co. they actually CAN develop very accurate, true to scale RC cars - and I would really appriciate if they would take that path too. There are so many cars, which got a lot of stories to tell, e.g. a Kübelwagen full of waving Teens or the latest Formula-E race cars - as the RCs are electric - or classics, like a 1954 300SL w/o bumpers, which could have opening wings, driver and interior... Am I still waiting for the next re-re-re-realise or for next level RCs?

On one hand yes, that's what I always thought too. But in some matters, Matteo is right. Tamiya's approach has always been a different in the last decades. I guess it goes more into "kittenish" than "performing". What does not mean to be bad, as long as they sell their products. I believe in opposite to the "heydays" of their RC portfolio they "lost that feeling". As well as they can give you a surprise from time to time ...

I think a great matter of concern for Tamiy is to keep the price down. To make it affordable for many people.
