Treasure hunting in river - Did we find gold or fool's gold in Switzerland?

Join us in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland on an impromptu mudlark. We saw the river and couldn't resist a bit of treasure hunting. I thought we found pyrite. Am I right, or is it gold? Let us know what you think :)
Join us as we find interesting things to do, see and eat! We have another channel, based on our EBay reselling business. Even so, there is more to life. All work and no play...well, you know the rest.
We love travel, adventure and interesting things to do. We are starting our channel now, with the intention of it becoming full time when we go on the road throughout Europe in our motorhome/RV when we retire in 2 years time. Till then, we are going to find loads of interesting things to do here in the UK.

Scenery is beautiful. My 3rd great grandfather was born in Switzerland. I would love to visit there.

Great video guys! Switzerland looks so similar to my home province of British Columbia is is incredible. We have rivers and mountains that are wild and rugged here too. British Columbia has over 100 of the highest mountains in Canada! If you ever come to Canada, BC is the best province for spectacular scenery. Phils footwear was totally inappropriate for safe hiking on such terrain, LOL. Loved the start with Phil wearing his rock star "Bono" shades!

Thanks Pleasant Valley Picker :) I've never been to British Colombia but it sounds like my sort of place :) With those Bono shades, he was invincible even when wearing inappropriate footwear .... well, apart from his little 'dip' lol

Lovely scenery, very reminiscent of Austria and Italian mountains 🙂 Pyrite has crystalline, cube-like structure but real gold has a lustre thats the same from any direction. I pan a lot in the Mennock Pass area of Scotland and still get a thrill seeing tiny pieces of gold in a pan. If there was gold in that Swiss stream it would be under the large rocks or deeper down. It definitely could be there though.

@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Would make a great film if you made it to Scotland and at the Wanlockhead Lead mining museum they run panning courses. Theres some amazing history there too, including a miners library that even had a copy of the Koran way back. Just shows.

taking those sandals to a mud larking trip is like taking a knife to a gun fight. That was a piece of gossan you had there with the Pyrite in. Bet there was more than just iron in there too.

Yes, but my fault as I said we were just going for a walk. I might have known that I'd be overcome with the temptation to get in the water lol I just looked up gossan. Yup, that's the stuff :)Thanks, we are learning so much from our viewers.

WOW, That is beautiful. Phil, Dig under those great big boulders. You know tiny things get stuck under them. So you can just drive there from your house?

Yes it is beautiful, but the water is freezing as it flows from the snow high up in the mountains. We drive to Switzerland from home but it takes a couple of days, so is always part of a tour which takes a month and where we visit as many countries as possible 🙂😎🐼
