The metal craft in the Himalayas has a long history. It began to develop as early as 2000 years ago. It was very mature in the 17th and 20th centuries. The variety of utensils is rich and the overall style is famous for its exquisite and complex style. During this period, there also appeared an official workshop-"Xueduibai", which means "Ruyi Jixiang Industrial Institute", representing the highest level of metal processing in Tibet.
