Hi Kim, It seems like Milky Spores( Organic) has worked. I spread this product in late May in my lawn. So far I have seen only one Japanese Beetle. Let’s hope it continues like this rest of the summer.🤞❤

I found that Amdro works excellent for beetles, fleas & ants worked down into the soil

I pick them off my hibiscus and put them in a dish of soapy water, I haven't found that damaged flowers attract more but the beetles themselves release pheremones when they find a food source so you need to be diligent picking them off and letting the dead ones accumulate seems to be a deterrent. I'm in S. Ontario and hadn't seen them before last year, so wasn't watching for them and had a major infestation before I knew it. This year I've been picking them off right away and haven't had more than a few dozen since they first showed up a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the tip, I have another suggestion on how to organically eliminate the Japanese beetles. Use a cordless handheld vacuum blower with a slim nozzle attachment and just suck the beetles and at the end of the day dump them in soap water. It is best to have a spare battery pack for the vacuum blower so that there is always fully charged battery as backup

Great video! I dread July here in zone 5a. I put this up as a question on Paul Zimmerman's FB page - I got a lot of answers and I was intrigued by one method that I will try this year: A woman who vacuums the beetles - so efficiently that she has fixed her beetle problem. (I happen to have a portable battery shopvac!) I also recommend checking out Jason of Fraser Valley Rose Farm - a KZfaqr who hales from British Columbia - perhaps near your climate zone though far in miles. Consider adding his suggestions to your armament. He suggests preventatively disbudding your roses for example. Another Jason suggestion was planting zonal pelargoniums (aka geraniums) on the ground (which I have done) apparently they prefer them and are temporarily intoxicated by the plant - fall to the ground in a swoon and are summarily eaten by predators. I've thought of putting up Japanese Beetle traps in the forest at the very edge of our narrow 2.5 acre property - but I probably won't use them for fear of bringing them close to the scent of the roses.... Thank you for watching! Interesting idea (vacuum). What do you do with them once they are in the vac? I do love Jason's videos and have thought about pulling the buds preventatively but just can't bring myself to do that yet. I have only had 4 beetles each day to remove. So I may get to that point if it gets worse. It has been really nice.

You are two zones above me so I am still in the clear. Hate these things. We do the soap bucket method too and at least three times a day. I'm not looking forward to it. Good video and thanks.

I purchased two varieties of beneficial nematodes (nemaseek Hb and nemattack Sf) from Arbico organics this spring. I did two treatments maybe two weeks apart. I feel that it has made a significant impact on reducing Japanese beetles in my yard. I plan on retreating again this fall. The company has outstanding customer service and will help you with whatever you need. I’m sold on them and their products. Send for a catalog, great organic products! A very happy gardener 😊

Beneficial nematodes will take care of the grubs on the ground.

Thank God I don’t have Japanese beetles because I’m currently dealing with a groundhog infestation….I live 15 minutes from Manhattan…this is insane. The things we do for our roses

Good to know, luckily I don’t have this issue and I noticed they are always on knock out pink roses, aren’t they 😃 Why my new baby leaves tips looks burnt 😥? I noticed my bare root “State of Grace” is having new growth but tips are burnt and looking black… need your help please. Thanks in advance 🙏🏻🌹

I am so sorry that your leaves are browning. It may be occurring due to severe heat. Has it been real hot where you are? The solution is to water well in the morning on the days that you expect heat. You can also spray the leaves before the sun hits them to give a little more moisture. Although try not to mist the leaves if the sun is out because it will magnify the water and cause additional burn. Let me know if that helps.

Problem is I can't reach the tops of my climbing roses on my arbor. So those beetles chew up those roses every summer. I do cover with white netting my other roses and pick off what I can to toss in the soapy water. We also treat our flower beds and yard. I know my neighbors are not gardeners and they don't treat their yards so they will never go away. I'd like to move where they don't exist...Oregon?

I use the bags every year. But I did learn, to place them away from my roses. We have almost an acre and i place the bags as far from my roses and banana trees as possible. They love banana trees too! They have really helped me battle them. I didn't know about the grubs. But I haven't seen a greater amount in our yard using the bags. I have learned sooooo much from you. And I think this year we will treat the area around the bags to see how that does. We deff don't need any more moles. Lol. Thank you sooo much for everything you teach. I'm an avid rosarian now! ❤️

Yay- I love helping new rosarians and am so glad you are enjoying the videos. I think you are right, if you use the bags, you can treat the ground heavy for the grubs and see if that helps.

I was wondering if I should do this!!!! I was afraid it would backfire but I have a field near my house I could put it in! Then maybe I could be lucky like your neighbors were and have none. They eat all my buds ):

@@Rena0Dawn I'm telling ya, I'd try it. They destroyed my roses and banana trees a couple years ago. We put two bags up away from my roses and it helped tremendously! But now I know about the grubs. Fishing all these years and never knew they were those suckers. Lol. We are gonna bag and treat this year. I have to do something. We have lots of banana trees and I have about 20 rose bushes. I refuse to give in without a fight. 😂

Same here! I only have one rose bush so far and they would just demolish it. I’m planning to do a English Rose arch and I can not let them have it!! I thought maybe it would backfire since the bag would still be relatively near by but if her neighbors lucked out from it, I’m hoping it will be good for me! Since I’m putting it in the plot that would be my next door neighbor. Fingers crossed! Oh also I read that you can plant geraniums and they will eat those when they are too young to climb to the roses. So that you can get a head start on killing them! Plus the geraniums mildly paralyze them do it makes the job even easier. I plan to drop them in clean water and then take them to feed the ducks!

I have gone through all the internet to find a solution. I live in Iran, I saw those beetles last year for the first time. They are black & white & some are yellow & black. It’s not Japanese beetles. I haven’t yet found which variety they are. They are a little bigger. This year unfortunately, they multiplied They are over my raspberries & wow, 😢. They liked my dahlias as well & roses. Today I used an insecticide ( not organic) & honestly it worked. They died! I picked them & put them in a bucket. I was afraid they might come back to life. The degree of devastation is beyond repair this year. Obviously, going through the internet, looks like I need to get rid of the larvae for next year.

I think that is a waste of time and money. Killing the larvae in your lawn won't stop them coming from elsewhere. I've been in this house for 30 years and hadn't seen a single one before last year, then I had an infestation. Those beetles didn't hatch out of my lawn, they came from somewhere else.

Yikes, this might work if I just had roses, but I have 20 fruit trees, other trees, and 30 plus rose bushes… besides other plants. This won’t do.

I used the granular Milky Spore. You treat quarterly for two years and then have protection for at least ten years. I hope you are able to find a similar product.
