Tree On a Crazy Lean: Double Rope SRT with the Bulldog Bone

A nasty leaning Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo or Boxelder) that I smashed out with Tom and Kendal. Using the double SRT Bulldog Bone setup. Hope this all makes sense and you can get some value from it... I am NOT a climber, just a fire wood cutter, retired laborer, I know hard work when I see it. Always enjoy your informative videos, but this one! Well! watching you up there,(glad to see you had a battery saw) doin all that riggin, keepin an eye out for the ground crew, instructing guys,all while hangin on by your toe nails sometimes, Blew My Mind. my whole body was tensed up a few times. watchin this one was exhausting! you owe me an hour’s pay!😀👍Thanks- another good job 👍

One of the best tree removal videos I've ever seen .Felt like you were right there. The rigging was fantastic. The confident calm commands and good communication with ground crew and competent ground crew working together well was so uplifting . Videography and the work you did was so well done.You made a dangerous difficult job look easy. Well done!

Such an Educated Climber you are. You climb, you educate. So befitting and such a professional you are. I'm 64 this June. When I was younger, for nearly 30 years, I trained people to be scuba divers. If I was your age I'd gladly do what you do. But I'm not, so I'll just watch your videos and appreciate your art and skill - something which I'll always look forward to Thank you so much, from Malaysia.

I was surprised when you were back down to the 4 wires, after removing all that weight I expected the tree would be up, probably completely off the wires by then. I've never climbed with two lifelines, but I could feel it when you were back on the ground and unclipping everything. I always feel like I'm standing in a nest of lines and I'm afraid to take a step because I don't want to gaff a climbing line or anything! Another joy to watch! Stay safe. Oh! And kudos to the ground crew. Those guys did a fine job. I did flinch when you didn't use a tag line on that last piece, and it smacked into the other tree. We are enjoying a National Holiday weekend, down here, but y'all enjoy your weekend, too!

I’m not sure what’s more insane…the lean of that tree..or the people that would entertain its rogue growth . It actually looked as if it was almost over 3 yards😳 Awesome wrecking. Nicely done!

It’s cool haveing trees with unruly character but box alders are known to sprawl and dogleg, but they are insect magnets and after fully mature, they drop mulch al year. Not a long term investment.

That double wrap around the tree finished with a daisy hitch is my goto. This was a great video for not only a leaner but how great that hitch is for u & the ground guy also.

Here in Québec, we call them Giguère Maple or Composed leafed maple since its the only maple to have mutliple leaf on the same petiole.

This ugly tree job, took some thinking and risk involved, but you handled it like a true pro. You are a top guy indeed. Groundsman did a great job too. What if I don't have other trees near by to assist me with my climbing line nor my rigging lines ? But I thought the double climbing line set up was super cool , cause I didn't know that pro's actually did that. Now I won't feel like an embarrassed chicken anymore when I'm hooked up with 2 lines and a lanyard. 🤠

I went to look at a willow tree a few days ago, most likely i will be dismatling it. It has a large lean just like the one you was working on, i wasn't really sure how to deal with it, now that i watched your video i have a very good idea how ill carry it out. Thanks for a great Vid, i really enjoyed it, i taught me many things.

Thanks for the “raw” footage. Far from tedious, it is actually very helpful and insightful to see step by step how you move through the tree, set your rigging, the type of cut you use for each piece, etc. Thanks for taking the extra time to educate. Out of curiosity, do many of the boxelders in your area exhibit the crimson “flame” stain in the wood? I’m in the southern Appalachians and it seems the vast majority of the ones we cut are infected with the fungus.

34:40 Might help ground crew to refer to lines as "load" and "swing". White rope took the load, orange rope controlled the swing. They didn't seem to understand the assignment at 28:20.

Hello Patrick. Nicely done. It is a good feeling when you have enough lines and rigging to do what you envision. Off topic, I have a question. How do you deal with hot weather and your gaffs? I am growing new skin where my gaffs have worn my legs raw during a really hot couple of days up a tree I took apart and took down. I sure would like to know what your go to is for sweaty days and gaffs. Thank you for having such a good channel and for any thoughts you might share on this. George.

I don't get the daisy chain tie off after he does his half hitch. Never seen a tie off like that, clove hitch, constrictor knot, running bowline, but it seems to work good. Nice work on the takedown!

Really nice job! What is that rigging knot you're tying? Is it a running bowline with a bunch of daisy chains? You tie it so fast it's hard to see what you're doing.

Awesome example of Double Crothing with SRS climbing rigs! Whew, that log rig by the roof I was holding my breath! I appreciate you spending the time to tie your rigging knots and not just using clips. Hey your Daisey Chain rigging knot is it on any tree care Litterature? Nice Video.

Nice job in your urban forest removal. Wouldn't work in the backyards of Chicago though. Less is more when working with the lines here. Looks like, your doing to much around them. Also, what kind of crew you got counts make that crystal clear. If you had to do double takes how would your crew handle you. How do you switch your system to your stem? Double crotching makes your rescue tricky as well. It would of been nice to eliminating all the nice stuff and show the nitty gritty. Like the neighbors lines still attached. But always different strokes for different folks. Be safe! Never seen your videos. Will be looking out now.

Oh yeah and how long should my 9mill 28 in friction cord last cuz mine is starting to get stiff and doesn't grab like it should now I changed from the vt to the knut but that was working really good but then the other day it just stopped grabbing like it did when I first started using it let me kn please
