Teri, you're cute. I have a perpetual smile as I watch and listen to you make soap. Your signature artists palette and palette knife are the best! Your meticulous calculating and measuring wow me. You brutal honesty when you think you have erred is refreshing. Your periodic introduction of new "contraptions" piques my interest. Your generosity in sharing your recipes and where you purchased your equipment is kind. Your voice is calming and inviting. Your overall presentation is high quality and professional. Be blessed.

I don't like getting specks in my batter. This way I can get all the specks out. Micas aren't bad, but Oxides, Ultramarines, and Neons are the ones that are notorious for specks. I am an artist at heart so this is really just my preferred method.

Those skinny sticks look like wooden coffee stirrers to me, but what a great idea!! I still use one I made a long time ago using cardboard and nails, but I like your tool idea much better. I like the concept of the stripes you were after the in the first design, and I agree that a medium trace batter would have been better for the design you were after (although that may have been tougher to pour into the sections and keep the soap from getting under the dividers when you tamp down the mold with medium trace). Both soaps are beautiful, as your work *always* is!
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, someone else said that. I don't drink coffee, so I wouldn't know. I think these flat, wider sticks make a nicer drag tool than something littler and rounder. You'll have to try it, Lisa!

I am new to soap crafting and find your expertise amazing. I am in awe of the designs. Very much like you I am afraid of using lye. My question is that you do your gel phase in your oven. Are you sure you are not building up lye residue in your oven that can cause toxic levels when you cook? Or am I mistaken? I am only asking out of concern for your health, so it is not meant to be rude but only out of concern. Ty for sharing your videos with us.

@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Sarah! You can use this calculator for anything that you measure in teaspoons per pound of soap or per pound of oils. So it works for natural colorants and even additives. You just need to know the suggested rate. For example, I just made a soap using paprika as the colorant. I used it at a rate of 2 tsp PPS. Did you watch the video explaining it on Elements Bath and Body's Channel?

I love all of them, but actually, I think I preferred the one where you pulled it through. The effect was so gorgeous and neat, that "comb" of coffee stirrers was such a good idea. I must admit, it's a bit of a shame knowing that vanilla seems to be one of the bigger culprits for discolouration so often (and it's my favourite scent) - it was nice to see that this fragrance oil doesn't seem to discolour. Vanilla and raspberry though. That's about as good as it gets, IMO!
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, there! I can't wait to experiment more with that technique! Maybe yet today! 🤔 Sadly, I don't think this scent really smells like vanilla. It's more fruity. It is a good "go to" scent when looking for a well-behaved fragrance though. I am with you, I tend to love all the fragrances that turn brown. For me, the ones with amber are so divine! I maybe should do some videos on designing with FO's that discolor.
@JustAnotherBuckyLover

@@TreeMarieSoapworks Ahh such a shame. I think that would be a really good video, yes. I mean, of course you can use the colour to your advantage if you're making something that works for tan/brown or whatnot, but its a nuisance if you want to a make a white vanilla-scented soap. It makes me wonder how they manage it commercially!

No problem, a lot of these techniques don't lend themselves to large slab molds. I also want to teach, and personally, I just like working with these sizes better.

@TreeMarieSoapworks

Use a water discount. That solves a lot of issues. For most of my recipes I use 25% "water as a percent of oil weight" in soapcalc. It does give you less time to work, but as you can see, I have plenty of time to work.

Hi . You asked for suggestions for future videos. Please could you show us different creative ways to use all the confetti and planings. . Also how to create less confetti. I currently feel like I have more confetti than soap! 🤣
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 жыл бұрын
Why do you have so much confetti? Is it from planing or beveling? I usually don't make confetti soap, but I could. 🤔 I usually roll it into balls and give it to family to use for hand soaps. Here are some great ideas I have saved: www.pinterest.com/pin/57702438963858108/?nic=1 www.pinterest.com/pin/365565694750089072/

Tree Marie Soapworks Yes it is planing and bevelling, maybe that’s the video needed. My family are snowed under with all the trial soaps I am currently making as a newbie! In the UK we have to have every soap assessed before we can sell and once done that recipe can’t be changed. Hence the need to practice and experiment before going to assessment.

It’s very dangerous to be soaping in glass containers, what if someone watching does this and it shatters on them?
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 жыл бұрын
Safety is a concern for sure! I make sure to use a plastic container to mix the water and lye. That is where the real risk is. I have used plastic for my batter bowl and it has proved to be more unsafe for me. I have had accidents with plastic bowls. They were the right kind of plastic, but they are flimsy, and they crack. The handle completely broke off one of mine. The soap batter is in the bowl for a very short time and no etching has occurred. Thank you for your concern.
