I got a pair of early 2000’s Trek mtb’s for $20, a 3700 and a 4300 one set of forks - crap - no seats, one set of wheels. A 3x6 drive with a freewheel. I cleaned up the wheels ans sold the wheels for $20 on Facebook marketplace. Follow the strip back - repaint and build. The only new items were the wheel set which ran me $200 with DT Swiss X430 rims - disk compatible.
The trek frames can take rear disk brakes with an adapter designed specifically to bolt to the frame. www.sellutionmtb.com/ProductD....
I added sram 160mm rotors. All other parts came from the parts bin from savaged other bike projects. The front décoré slx derailleur came from a Scott scale that I converted to a 1x10 a couple of years ago which I later sold on in the Isle of Man after riding it for a summer. The rear Deore derailleur was off a kona- another project coming up.
I need to sell some bikes - this one is up for sale and available in South Florida. Nice modern mtb with hydraulic disk brakes and 3x9 drive.

Nice job. What paint and clear did you use. My paint jobs don't come out like that.

Montana gold for the colours and Spraymax 2k (2 part epoxy) clear coat. The primer layer is rustoleum white aluminium primer. Once the colour layers are done it needs a very gentle wet sand at 800 grit. The 2k clear coat. I give one layer, wait an hour or two then a second coat - I used all the can. Wait a week. 600 grit wet sand to smooth it out then another can of 2k clear coat in two goes as before. If you use vinyl for decals then that goes on after the sanded colour layer - you can sand over the vinyl once it’s covered in clear coat. Hope this helps.
