Not controversial IMO! This is absolutely my favorite. I'm a sucker for a tragic hero journey, where there's a meaningful end to said hero (or heroes). I'm so glad they didn't screw this story up just to pander to people often not wanting heroes to 💀. It makes sense that it ends this way. I mean... Why would Leia even NEED to send a message if any of them could just go tell a bunch of people after this? Why would Leia even NEED to be in A New Hope? The whole point is she gets the info. So it makes A New Hope EVEN BETTER. Which is a real feat. Too many people are just used to being fed crappy stories that are shallow and manipulative "feel happy" or "feel sad" flicks that are full of plot holes to the point of being nonsensical. Everyone: "Why does this movie have everyone survive despite it not making sense? Why, then, are chick flick romance stories constantly involving terminal illness and tragedy, often for NO REASON?!" Hollywood: "Because we want your money. We want you to be overwhelmed and jerked around until you're dead inside... Then we get to be lazy, and you get to consume thoughtlessly. Don't think about the story too hard!" Eh. Sorry for the rant. I'm just so over the shallow manipulation and crap entertainment (I think especially as a woman, since they're constantly claiming to do a bunch of it "in our honor". 🙄 K. Thx. I hate it 😂 Give me Rogue One level masterpieces instead)

This movie went through major rewrites. The teaser trailers they originally used for this film mostly had footage which ended up being scrapped and not shown in the Final Cut. And it still ended up being what most fans wanted. It is a fantastic film and gave us an incredible Darth Vader hallway scene at the end. And it just goes to show that not every movie should have a happy ending. Sometimes the heroes must suffer and/or perish for the greater good. This movie succeeded on so many levels.

Definitely a lot of rewrites but it should also be noted that tent pole or blockbuster movies often have footage and dialogue in the trailer which either gets trimmed in the final cut or which was specifically selected/created for the trailer. (For instance, the hovering TIE Fighter in the RO trailer was _added_ for dramatic effect.) We can all have an opinion about whether it’s a fair practice or not but getting butts into seats is the goal, and trailers are usually made before the film is finished. It is what it is.

What you need to understand about Saw (Forrest Whittaker [sp?]) is he had been fighting since the Clone Wars. He's lost family, friends, those close to him (like so many others), and he was just tired of fighting. He had been fighting for so long that I think the fight was all fought out of him, and he just wanted peace and rest. He knew Jyn had that Spark of Rebellion in her and just needed something to force her hand into accepting her role and her fate. Everyone by this point (right before the events of Ep. 4 A New Hope), not least Saw Guererra, that one wonders how many more were just sick and tired of fighting and just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Those that stuck it out, yes, are heroes, but so is poor Saw who fought the fight he felt compelled to fight.

Saw was fighting to free his world from Separatist occupation even before the Empire took over. And I thought the Rebels drumming him out was shoddy. @@WarlordShogun And the tie in book Rebel Rising shows more of Jyn's time with him, plus her own attempt to stay away from the Empire (which kept tragically going wrong, as every attempt to make a new life generally got ruined in some way by an Imperial presence, conflict or bureaucracy) Saw did also participate in a wide-scale assassination, of a social convention of Imperials, furthermore.
@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t
@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t Жыл бұрын
@@donpietruk1517 OK, the reason that drives a wedge between Saw and the Rebels is that the Alliance to Restore the Republic is led by politicians who are not trying to directly oppose the Empire militarily, but to gain enough support in the Senate to remove Palpatine from his political power. The senators and other officials they need to gain that support aren't going to be easier to deal with when they see the Alliance not only approve, but actively participate in killing their own constituents, and so Saw's methods work directly against their aims. And both of them are wrong; the politicians because many of them don't really know or understand what Palpatine is, and why their strategy is therefore doomed to fail. And Saw... well, what he's doing is, in scale, like spilling a drink on the Governor of American Samoa, and then shaking his fist in the direction of Washington DC and yelling "that'll teach you, you bastards".

Back then the movie industry wasn’t sold on Star Wars, and it only opened up in a few places, and within a few weeks they saw how immensely popular it got, and the rest is history. On the SW timeline, this is basically Episode 3.9. The start of the movie is during the beginning of construction of the Death Star, and the end gives the full story of the opening of the first movie, Star Wars (Episode 4: A New Hope). The first movie was the first movie because George Lucas only had clout and cash from American Graffiti, and the first movie has fewer set pieces, and much of the action can be an off screen exposition dump, very theatrical. After the first movie was the first blockbuster the budget expanded and every entry in the series became technically superior due to increasingly limited constraints. Rogue One is also one of my favorites. You should watch the "Andor" prequel. Then rewatch Rogue One, 4, 5, 6, and then start "The Mandalorian". You can do the refresh on your own time if so inclined, but a more experienced understanding and appreciation might be interesting. Love the channel keep it up.

@MRLBOYDMOVIEREVIEWS I don't know if someone has already addressed this, but the reason for the abysmal aim between the storm troopers and the clone troopers, is that the clones were decommissioned sometime between the prequels and the original trilogies. The storm troopers are conscripted soldiers from across the galaxy, and the clones were cloned from Jango Fett, who also assisted with their training. So the clones had better training than the storm troopers. Hopefully this helps if it wasn't already explained.

This movie does a good idea of making us realize that in real life, not every hero survives. Often in war, there are a lot of forgotten and unsung heroes who's sacrifice led to victory. Each of these persons (and droids) were crucial to getting the plans. Which then got into R2D2, and later Obiwan Kenobi. Which resulted in the Princess rescue. Which led to the Rebels using the data to destroy the weakness in the Death Star. All those events, and the victory, was the result of many sacrifices. And in my opinion that is a strength of this movie, that Disney did not shy away from the idea of Good wins, but everyone dies. Because at the level of danger that these people were going up against, as an underground movement resisting a galactic empire with planet destroying capabilities. Logically, a lot a lot a lot of people would be deleted along the way to achieve victory. This movie leads directly into episode 4 (the first movie). If you want to see more of this kind of action there is a series called "Andor" on the Disney service and it is very good. It follows how Cassian Andor ends up at this place in this movie and it is about the birth of the Rebel Alliance. They are still working on the second season and it will be out at some point, but season 1 was phenomenal... The actor who played Cassian did come back for the series. I would highly recommend checking it out at some point. Probably the best Star Wars series we have seen at this point... The force and Jedi or Sith are not in the focus in it, so you kind of see what it is like for the "regular" people. The ending of Rogue One is kind of meh when you know exactly about what this movie is about. It is really beautiful to say at least. And it does have that Vader scene at the end where he goes ham... He really was an unstoppable force at this point. Zero chance other than to run.

Stormtroopers were supposed to be pretty good shooters, as Obi-Wan noted their precision on the Jawa sandcrawler. But whether or not they were intentionally missing to let our heroes get away from the Death Star or not, you can't have the main characters killed off too early. Like in most movies, the bad guys can't seem to hit the heroes, making their aim look bad. Maybe it was a bit over done. It became a joke about how bad their aim was. So mostly due to fan service, in later movies the Stormtroopers usually had terrible aim.

I'll keep this as short as possible. In the beginning, 1977 specifically, there was Star Wars, and only Star Wars, and it was good. Then, in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back was released and Yoda was launched upon the world, and it was even better. In 1981, Star Wars was rebranded "A New Hope," although we pretty much still just called it ""Star Wars." In 1983 came Return of The Jedi, which ended the whole thing, and that was pretty much all the Star Wars there was for well over a decade. I mean movie-wise. There were a couple cartoons, a few made for tv movies about the Ewoks.There were some novels, comic books, video games and breakfast cereals. The prequels didn't come out until 1999, with Phantom Menace, which became Episode 1 and about 80% of the population hated Jar Jar Binks (which isn't really relevant, but I always like to bring it up, because he sucks). Some time in the early 2000's was when Episode 4's rebranding of "A New Hope" really got leaned into.

This movie is loosely based on and greatly expands the one chapter at the end of the 3rd Han Solo book that was written back in the 1990's. Jyn's character is based on Han Solo's first love (Bria) that left him and joined the Rebellion and became the leader of an elite rebel group called the Red Hand. They were the ones that infiltrated the facility to steal the deathstar plans and sent them to Leia on her ship. It was basically a suicide mission and they all died. After that last chapter is the epilogue where it shows Han and Chewie on Tatooine about to meet and old man and a teenage boy who are wanting passage to Alderaan. I loved Rogue One, but I also hated how much they changed from those books that I grew up reading.

Generally, I think "the first movie" means Episode IV, also called "A New Hope" - which came out in 1977; and "episode one" means the first movie in the series, Episode I, also called "The Phantom Menace".

Once upon a time, Rogue One and Game of Thrones had a secret love child, and they called it The Expanse. The original concept for The Expanse was for an MMPRPG, but after doing immense and immaculate research the co-authors, Ty Frank and Daniel Abraham, realized that wasn't going to happen due to funding, so they turned it into a tabletop RPG. After playing the tabletop game with friends, including George R.R. Martin, (Ty Frank was his assistant), they had a cool storyline and characters, so they turned it into a novel series, (9 novels, 7 novellas, and 2 short stories.) The novel series was so popular it was made into a TV series, (now on Amazon,) which was so popular it was made into the Telltale RPG you are playing, bringing it full circle back to the original concept. (The game, btw, takes place before the events in the books/show.)

I call this "The Dirty Dozen Saves Private Ryan from the Guns of Navarone," referencing past WWII movies that it has sequences to remind me of. I saw the original Star Wars (later called "A New Hope") on the first weekend of its release in 1977. I left the theater than night elated. I saw this movie in the first weekend of its release, and it was the only other Star Wars movie that left me with the same feeling of elation. The blend into the original movie had been a well-kept and welcomed surprise.

The thing about warp in ST is that you're not moving. The space around you is moving. You could technically fly through planets or stars because you're not colliding with them; the space around you is passing through them. Several other systems on the ship are making sure you don't come out of normal space within matter or extreme gravity.

You can just refer to the first Star Wars movie released as Episode IV. George Lucas included that in the opening crawl not only because he had an outline of backstory for the film that he hoped he might make one day, but also because we wanted to evoke the feeling of coming into an old Saturday Matinee film, like Flash Gordon serial, part way through the series.
@rawkmode6315
@rawkmode6315 Жыл бұрын
In the first film, the opening crawl literally says, "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough firepower to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the secret plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy..." This entire film is based on those three sentences there, and the original Star Wars is about what happens afterward. Also, "Star Wars" (if you saw it before 1981) or "A New Hope" (if you didn't see it until 1981 or later) is THE FIRST ONE. "The Phantom Menace," on the other hand, is EPISODE ONE. Don't ever call Episode One the "first one," its heresy. I already mentioned it in another comment, but if you want to see what led up to this movie, the television series "Andor" gives us that back story and its fantastic. It has the same writers and director as this film and a star studded cast. Its supposed to be 2-3 seasons long, but only season 1 has aired on Disney+ yet. Great show, you should give it a watch.

-The first time I saw this movie between two independent wrestling shows I worked. First show was on Friday in Columbia and the second was on Saturday, which was when I saw it, was in Orangeburg. I figure that traveling from Charleston to Columbia to Orangeburg and then back to Charleston made more sense than Charleston to Columbia to Charleston to Orangeburg to Charleston. Luckily, this had come out that weekend. -For your comment about the number of the movie, there was a tribute to George Lucas where Tom Hanks used that about his speech about the movies. It’s funny but it’s also a great representation of the confusion of the whole thing. -The biggest thing I noticed was that the feel was the closest to the original one. The prequels used a lot of CGI that you could clearly see that it was. This just felt like everything was 100% real. The technology looks exactly like in the originals. Also, you could feel where the characters were the focus of the filmmakers over the special effects. -Seeing “Peter Cushing” as Tarkin was weird. It reminded me of when I met the guy that my grandmother had been seeing, who looked exactly like my grandfather who had died about 10 years prior. -K2 was great choice for a droid to have if they weren’t going to have C3PO, who I popped over for his cameo. He made for a great character who brought an element of comedy without being all about the chuckles. -I loved the use of the footage of the fighter pilots calling in from A New Hope(To avoid confusion) with the arrack on Scarif. It was so great and, as you talked about, REALLY brought that connection to the series. -That Vader scene…… In that minute, Vader was Jason Voorhees. In that scene, I got chills of just how evil he came across. That final shot as they used that classic Empire theme with the slight variation at the end as Vader is watching as the Rebels get away was genius. I saw a special about Star Wars where they talked about that scene. After the original trilogy, Darth Vader went from being a villain who elicited fear to a marketable character that was used in commercials. Plus there was the end of Revenge of Sith with the “NOOOOOOOO!” that made him a bit emo. Considering how this was right before the start of the original trilogy, they knew they had to make him the Vader people saw then. I don’t like using the word but what they did was perfect. While I loved the scene, I could feel that initial fear I saw the first time I saw Darth Vader. -To tell you how much I loved this movie, I spent at least a minute in a bathroom stall at the theater crying my eyes out.

To let you understand about Rogue One, when they made the movie, they decided to mix modern cinematography to the the cinematography used back in the days of Star Wars 4, 5, 6, so they could use the same camera lenses used in those days back in the time to be used with modern cinematography of today, so the movie could be relatable to being from the era of Star Wars 4, 5, 6, as the movie is about the moment just before Star Wars 4! They used that kind of technology so it looks as all being following a motion of how everything looks from more the time pass!

@@drewwar9344 When I say Star Trek is a future I would want the human race to have, I don’t mean in terms of technology. I mean in terms of philosophical growth and brotherhood. The human race in Star Trek isn’t perfect. In fact they have laws against trying to make perfect people. But they have learned to evolve past the hang ups and isms that currently keep us at each others throats. Humans no longer fight devastating wars against one another. Earth is a near utopia in which anyone has a more or less fair chance at self actualization. As Captain Picard told a man from the 20th Century - “The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.” That is a beautiful ideal to aspire to and probably one we could never reach. But our species like a single person could have a goal beyond just surviving.

Yes, it's the same guy. A lot of extras & cameo characters have extensive histories in star wars, even if they didn't get any lines in the film. Like for example, do you remember the twi'lek jedi on Felucia (the giant flower planet in revenge of the sith shown in the order 66 montage)? Well her name is Aayla Secura, and she appears in a lot of stuff during that time period in-universe. She can also be seen in the background doing stuff in phantom menace & attack of the clones. Another example is all those bounty hunters vader hired in empire strikes back. Boba fett might've gotten the focus - but every single one of them have some very detailed background lore to them despite not having any lines or even being given a name in film.

One of the theories that try to explain the inconsistent trooper accuracy with blasters is that the force naturally effects reality around some people related to events in certain key nexuses kind of providing what appears to a lot of "lucky" circumstances. And while not completely overriding free will, the force always seems to favor those paths that lead to the final destiny of the chosen one. While those extremely adept at the force can foresee these possible pathways and either make predictions of the key turning points, and can sometimes manipulate them to delay the inevitable. (e.g. The emperor manipulates Anakin, Luke, and eventually Ben delaying things one generation each time, but the lines keep trying to converge). The other major explanation goes back to the original Lucas drafts where the movies we are watching are all the epic tails of from "The Journal of the Whills" an ancient collection of events once recovered from the memory banks of an old R2 droid unit and various other sources. These stories were compiled and circulated, passed through generations of hands with different accounts and interpretations. Kind of like the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gnostic Texts, etc. This is why each of the films began with an opening paragraph of text. But this means that every work in the Star Wars universe is just the surviving Hero stories, the operatic tales, the tales of folklore. Thus the ability to just constantly miss blaster bolts or have perfect timing on events "just is" because its how these bits and pieces of long lost history need in order to connect all the different versions of these tales.

Absolutely beautiful movie and characters. Something that I notice most reactors miss is that they are only testing the Death Star with a single reactor as opposed to the regular full power blast that instantly destroys planets. Easiest thing to do is refer to the 1977 Star wars as episode 4. This whole movie is based on a comment that princess Leia made in episode 4 when Han Solo asked what was so important what was that Droid carrying ( R2D2). She replied the plans to that battle station. This was when they were escaping the death Star after the rescue. Not sure if it was that the same moment or a different part in the movie when she referred to how many people died to to capture those plans. This is just the story of those heroes that captured the plans to the death Star and passed them on to princess Leia and the alliance.
