That's the biggest problem with this movie. It's only designed for those who are so Star Wars "diehard" that they don't see how this goes against most everything that Star Wars is meant to be. No opening crawl doesn't help this film either.

@@DontrelleRoosevelt and that, IMO, is what makes it (and the Andor series) so good. If this was meant to be more like Star Wars it would have been part of the core films (Prequels, OT and Sequels). No bumbling Empire, no black and white good/bad guys, no actual meaningful battles where the heroes will win no matter what. All reasons why I love the OT and Rogue One (for being the antithesis of the OT).

Rogue One takes place between Episodes 3 and 4, before the events of the Death Star being destroyed. Rogue One was honestly a really great movie. It had a different feel to it than other Star Wars films. A lot of the fight sequences were shot in a more close combat style to give the movie a more military "boots on the ground" type feel. And that ending though, hits the feels every time.

Clone Wars is a great series! It makes Episode 3 and Anakin turning into Vader much more heartbreaking than it already is. There's a guide to watching all the essential episodes, cutting out all the episodes which aren't important to the story overall. That does however mean missing some episodes which heavily involve C3PO and and R2 (yes they exist!) and all episodes that include the shenanigans of young Boba Fett. Also episodes involving Jar Jar, which most would argue is a big plus. The story starts out a lot more child friend and then overall gets more mature. I watched it growing up and it was the most amazing experience, because as I (and my friends who all watched it too) grew up, so did the series, incorporating more mature themes and a "darker" overall vibe. I watched the last season not that long ago and I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when it was over, haha.

The overall artistic looks very much like the original trilogy but the cinematography by Greig Fraser is amazing he's also working on The Batman which looks amazing as well and was the cinematographer for Dune. If you like how Rogue One looks you're going to love The Mandalorian it very much follows the same artistic as Greig Fraser is also the director of photography and co-producer of The Mandalorian so the movie and show share a common look. In legends (Old EU) the Death Star plans were stole by Kyle Katarn, newly defected Imperial, running missions for the Alliance, one of which saw him breaking into an Empire compound on the planet Danuta and stealing the Death Star plans. This was featured in the 1995 game Star Wars: Dark Forces the introduction mission to the game. In terms of timeline Rogue One takes place right before the events of A New Hope both Rogue One and A New Hope take place in 0BBY BBY stands for Before Battle of Yavin in other words Before A New Hope. ABY stands for After Battle of Yavin so this includes everything after A New Hope such as Empire Strikes Back and The Mandalorian. But back to the Rogue one this film shows us how the Rebellion got their hands on the plans to the Death Star the same plans we saw Princess Leia hiding in R2D2 in A New Hope when Vader and his Stormtroopers boarded Leisa ship in hopes of R2D2 delivering them to the Rebellion so they can find a weakness within the DeathStar. Simple Star Wars timeline Prequal Era - Clone Wars The Phantom Menace - 32 BBY The Attack of the Clones - 22 BBY The Clone Wars - 22 BBY to 19 BBY (Clone Wars spans three years) Revenge of the Sith - 19 BBY Fall of the Jedi and Rise of the Empire - Original Trilogy (from Republic to Empire) The Bad Batch - 19 BBY (Right after the Clone Wars and the formation of the Empire) Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 BBY Star Wars Rebels - 5 BBY to 0 BBY (Between these Five Years before A New Hope) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - 0 BBY (Set right before A New Hope) A New Hope - 0 BBY (Opening starts right after the ending of Rogue One) After the Battle of Yavin (After A New Hope) Empire Strikes Back - 3 ABY Return of the Jedi - 4 ABY The Mandalorian - 9 ABY

Or even better, having the pipes that comes from the core to the outside being all twisted and making impossible for a direct hit.... I originally watched the first movie Star Wars: A New Hope, the very first weekend it was shown in 1977 without having heard anything about it. This was the first Star Wars movie since then that left me with that same feeling of giddy elation as I walked out of the theater.

How long did it take you to realize that this movie took place between 3 and 4? It wasn't another death star. This was the first one. You were shocked that Vader wasn't dead. Did it take seeing Leia before it dawned on you that this was immediately before the beginning of A New Hope? Be honest. When did you figure it out. I don't know why this bothers me so much.

Hey, Kamilla! "Rogue One" is not just the best Disney Star Wars but it's my second favorite Star Wars film after "Empire"! I strongly encourage you to see Ron Howard's "Solo" as well. It's a highly underrated space adventure about Han Solo's origin and it's tremendous fun! The significance of the film is that it shows a fragmented Rebellion consisting of disillusioned operatives who were unable to galvanize on an actionable strategy. If Jyn hadn't convinced Cassian and his volunteers to go ROGUE, the Rebellion would probably never have won its critical victory against the Empire by destroying the Death Star. Diego Luna will be reprising the role of Cassian in the spin-off series "Andor" coming out in 2022! Neither Jedha nor Scarif were destroyed because Tarkin stated he didn't want to issue a Manifesto but just wanted to make a statement. He ordered a SINGLE-REACTOR IGNITION which one infers is a lower-powered blast. He made the distinction twice. The best line goes to Vader: "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director." Lol. This movie is set 19 years after "Revenge of the Sith" and ends just hours before "A New Hope" begins! The Death Star plans featured in the Episode IV briefing are what is handed to Leia and what she later uploads into Artoo! The likenesses of Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing were digitally overlaid on actors portraying Leia and Tarkin because both original actors had passed away. Alan Tudyk as K-2SO and Donnie Yen as Chirrut both nearly steal this movie! Donnie Yen is a megastar in Asia and an amazing martial artist known for the "Ip Man" series. The crystal pendant Lyra gave to Jyn is a kyber crystal which powers lightsabers. Her possession of it shows she's a believer in the Force which is discouraged under the Empire. The Rebels were using the abandoned temples on the jungle moon of Yavin 4 as a base. Their defense of Yavin is the climax of Episode IV. Every volunteer on that Scarif mission knows they're on a one-way trip but Felicity Jones delivers an incredible motivational speech! The black-armored Death Troopers are an elite unit like Navy SEALs. Darth Vader is absolutely SAVAGE in this film! The audience went nuts in that final scene! There are SO MANY actor and/or character cameos and references in this film tying into other parts of the franchise. This movie may not be part of the Skywalker Saga but there were plenty of familiar faces on hand! Did you recognize them all? Here are some in order of appearance: 1. SAW GERRERA (Forest Whitaker; animated Clone Wars, animated Bad Batch, Fallen Order video game and animated Rebels) 2. MON MOTHMA (Genevieve O'Reilly reprising her prequel appearance; animated Clone Wars, Episode III, animated Rebels, Episode VI played by Caroline Blakiston) 3. GENERAL JAN DODONNA (bearded rebel General played by Ian McElhinney; animated Rebels, Episode IV played by Alex McCrindle) 4. SENATOR BAIL ORGANA (Jimmy Smits reprising his prequel role as Leia's adoptive father; Episode II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, animated Rebels) 5. GRAND MOFF WILHUFF TARKIN (CGI Peter Cushing; animated Clone Wars; Episode III portrayed by a different actor, animated Bad Batch, animated Rebels, Episode IV) 6. PONDA BABA & DR. EVAZAN (walrus-tusked Aqualish and disfigured bud who tangle with Obi-Wan in a Mos Eisley cantina; Episode IV portrayed by different actors) 7. WEETEEF CYU-BEE (Warwick Davis, Star Wars' lucky penny who cameos in every movie since playing Wicket the Ewok in Episode VI; the small Partisan alien on Jedha) 8. DARTH VADER (James Earl Jones voices him again!; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, Fallen Order video game, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, IX) 9. HERA SYNDULLA (Twi'lek star of animated Rebels and daughter of Clone Wars freedom fighter Cham Syndulla mentioned over intercom at the Yavin base after Jyn fails to get a green light for her Scarif mission) 10. C-3PO & R2-D2 (Anthony Daniels puts on the golden plating yet again and is joined by his astromech partner!; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, The Mandalorian [R2 only], The Book of Boba Fett [R2 only], VII, VIII, IX) 11. OBI-WAN KENOBI (mentioned only as the Jedi in hiding who served Bail well in the Clone Wars and whom Mon Mothma wishes to contact; Episodes I, II, animated Clone Wars, Episode III, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, IX) 12. CAPTAIN RAYMUS ANTILLES (Captain of Leia's transport and Vader's first choke-out on film!; Episode III portrayed by a different actor, Episode IV portrayed by a different actor) 13. RED & GOLD LEADERS (Drewe Henley and Angus MacInnes reprised their roles as the X- and Y-Wing Commanders, respectively, who perished attacking the Death Star by lending their voices to archival footage digitally inserted into the cockpits during the attack on Scarif; Episode IV) 14. PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (CGI Carrie Fisher gets the last word!; Episode III, animated Rebels, Episodes IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX)

my 2nd favorite sta wars movie after episode 5 the empire strikes back and the fact that it tells how the rebels got the plans of the death star which lots of people have always wanted what makes it great is that you feel more sadness and have a big connection with the character even though it's the only movie you'll see them in

The Book of Boba Fett is blowing up right now, and like all Disney era Star Wars there are strong opinions, both pro and con, about many of the show's aspects, but I for one am really enjoying the story telling. Tons of lore and character cameos from Clone Wars animated series, legends novels and comics, and other E.U. media.

As soon as I saw that you didn't know where this movie took place in the timeline, I smiled because I knew how you'd react to the ending. To me, this is one of the best Star Wars movies ever, but it *is* important to know that it takes place right before "A New Hope" for it to make sense. Another Star Wars movie, "Solo", takes place between Episode III and Rogue One. You should watch that next. It's all about how Han Solo meets Chewie and Lando and becomes captain of the Millennium Falcon. It's fantastic.

The movies that are subtitled "A Star Wars Story" are standalone anthology films that tell different stories from around the galaxy that may or may not involve the classic characters. So far, there are only two: this one and Solo. Solo takes place about ten years before Ep.4 and Rogue One. Most of this series of movies has been canceled in favor of porting them over to TV. There had long been talk of a Boba Fett movie and an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, but those projects are now TV shows.
