I love that a Star Trek fan like him gets to design ships. He obviously knows what he's talking about.

I really enjoy it when they get to talk with designers that are very into the lore, who can give possible in-universe explanations for designs.

If Tuvok was in charge of the Pathfinder project, you'd think that he would have pointed out that in 7 years they never once bothered to use the Aeroshuttle, and it would be logical to axe it. Make room for another omniwave sensor suite or something. Make it a Klingon Dozen.

"Slipstream: It's not the best way to travel faster than light, it's just the only way." (Andromeda) Unless you're in the world of STO, where it's just a faster way.

Nacelle justification: It's a science vessel, so maybe variable geometry allows it to be less "noisy" in sub space and thus get more bang out of it's sensors.

With the revelation that the USS voyager becomes a legacy ship in discovery, I wonder if one of these would become the USS Voyager-A

One of my favorite ships in the game. I always thought of this ship as underrated because of it's very heavy slant towards Science. While I tend to fly this ship with the normal Intrepid "skin" (all of my Intrepid videos are actually of the Pathfinder), it really is a beautiful design (one of the best original Cryptic designs in my opinion) and can really perform well in the right hands.

The Pathfinder class is my favorite Intrepid variant. If I had that ship in STO, I'd call it the USS Tempest.

I believe that Voyager should have found a shipyard after Seven of Nine joined the crew, then had the ship rebuilt using all the advanced tech they learned during their flight to here, including Borg enhancements, and forerunner tech for the future tech admiral Janeway brought for them. And yes integrated the slipstream drive but with faults that limits its use to short hops.

I like the homage to the Pathfinder program as the name for the ship

love this variant of the Intrepid Class...wish this would have been the Voyager for the TV series...

The other thing about the saucer being split down the middle by the deflector: the way the hull plating directly above looks, it implies that that whole area is deflector dish gear. I realize that's not necessarily the case, but IMO the ship would look more reasonable with the deflector further down, and only a fairly small portion of the hull above with the look we see here - say in keeping with what we know of how big typical deflector tech would be for a dish of this size.

I think it's quite useful, proportion is on the underside of the saucer section (primary deflector and nacelle) and full sensors array and an unused deflector assembly is topside.

Neat looking ship. I'd like to see a 4 nacelled variant. It'd be like a Starfleet X-Wing. As for the secondary deflector, I guess we should think of it as more the "co-deflector" - personally I think it could be a little further down, ie much less "trench"

And after a thousand or so years later, we end up with "The Old Republic".

Since you do videos on sto ships too could you consider doing one on the quasar class variant of the nova class?

In STO it is a game, so EVERYTHING is quasi military. Making kabooms is what sells most. One deflector is slipstream optimized, the other is the real and traditional GP deflector.

I'd love an explanation from Thomas Marrone about some of the recurring greebles that show up on many of his (I'm assuming they're his at least) designs for STO. I can identify the phaser strips and photon torpedo tubes pretty easily (the photon torpedo tubes are a black grate over glowing red, Pathfinder has a pair mounted flanking the main deflector), but what are the glowing blue flattened hexagons at the fore and aft edges of the belly (below the deflector forward, and below the modular bays aft)? Are those quantum torpedo tubes? (Since these also show up on the Yorktown, Sojourner, Andromeda and Yamato classes, they are of extreme interest to me...) Also, what are those big hexagonal bumps on the underside of the saucer, just forward of the trailing edge? Something similar shows up on several of the other T6 ships (not the ones mentioned above though), and was assuming they're turrets or something? Star Trek is the kind of setting where most recurring details actually mean something, and I would love to know what I'm looking at if for no other reason than to be able to jot down RPG stats properly. :)

As good as the Pathfinder is... I usually use the Bellerophon skin. It looks about the sleekest ship in the Intrepid class. A science-heavy hot rod.

ER isn't the main aim of a deflector to clear Particles and debris out of the way while at warp....putting it in a channel like this only restricts the particle beam significantly and puts most of the ship at risk from micro collisions at warp except for the spine the ship and underlying central sections.

Nice design, i have never played STO, wanted to bur have never been much of a fan of MMOs due to alot of bullying on other games i prefer singleplayer games, but SWTOR show me that they can be played as singleplayer. Is STO the same can the whole storyline be played singleplayer or do you need to work with other players to play?

Patherfinder Class... With a name like that shouldn't it be based on the (not often mentioned) modifications made to the USS Voyager in the Post TV show Novels for the "Pathfinder Project". though I think that version has fewer cosmetic changes overall, but still if someone was to start from scratch the end result might be quite similar to the STO result anyway.

Waay too busy, as is standard for STO. Less is more, ship designers. You don't have to throw everything at a ship to make it work as a design. If they subtracted a few things from the ship (like that ridiculous deflector) it could be excellent.

Quasar => Galaxy.... and because Star Trek is inside a single galaxy there are no quasars to find. Prove me wrong.

Intrepid is gorgeous, pathfinder is just a hot mess. Too many colors and stuff going on. Very un trek like if you consider gene wanted sleek and smooth lines.

Look up the definition of "ablative" and you'll see that it could not, in any way, be regenerated without the use of some sort of huge replicator-type unit. In the real world, ablative armor explodes outwards to defeat shaped charges, like those found in modern HEAT RPGs. There's also no way that a power generator (if that's what it refers to) could be considered "ablative," either.
