Trell the Great

Күн бұрын

Getting NJP'd In The Marine Corps is one long lengthy process. So a lot of people have been asking me why I got NJP'd while I was in the Marine Corps, so I decide it was time for the Marine Corps to be exposed. In this video I break down exactly why I got in trouble in the Marine Corps. Getting in trouble in the Marine Corps is not fun. Hopefully you can see the struggle I had to go through. As always thanks for watching.

This is a lot like my experience in the Air Force. Started doing videos in 2013... It didn't go over well. Got put down by most my SNCOs my entire 6 years. It'll pay off in a decade or two when everyone who is calling the shots then all watched your stuff. This was also a reason why I got out too. I really expected to get blasted for my videos when I hit the fleet, but a lot of my unit gained respect for it and how I held myself in my videos. It actually seemed to help my career a lot. My Sgt Major and CO even talked about it with positivity. I guess it depends on the unit, so I’m sorry that you got put in a bad position. Good stuff man and keep up the content. I completed multiple gravel lots and not even a thank you but someone in my chain took credit and received a medal. Be careful if you are stellar, someone is plotting on stealing your thunder. During a pog field exercise, our Staff Sgt fresh off embassy duty didn't have a clue, so I took over and made him look good and he didn't even say thank you..I should have exposed his incompetence instead. I was literally battalion NJP’d for trying to help my marines that got into an accident. I was literally told to always take care of your juniors by my sergeants. I did it the wrong way but it could have just been handled by an ass-chewing and extra hours in the motor pool. My juniors crashed a go cart and I covered for them saying that me and a other corporal were the ones that were driving. My Gunny came by and told me to tell him what actually happened. So I did, he then proceeded to tell me that, “ all you are going to get is a 6105”. Turned out he lied to my face when I walked in to 1stsgt’s office and he told me I was getting battalion NJP for it. The juniors got out of it at least. Literally this topped off my reasoning for getting out.

Hey, Bro. USMC Vet here (2006-2012). I’m really sorry you had to deal with such bullshit, man. For what you’ve done for the Corps, you deserved so much better than the shit sandwich they served you (and to try to get you to be a recruiter, after the fact… Fuckin’ out of touch balls on these people!) Just know, that when one door shuts, another one opens, and I have full faith you’ll take advantage of every door that’s now opened to you. Semper Fi and Good Luck, Brother.

Wow, that's nuts. I agree with what you said towards the end: you did some minor stuff here and there. Mostly no-shaves and earrings. That deserves an good old fashioned behind closed doors ass chewing by 1stSgt, maybe company XO or CO to chime in with knife hands...but it should end there. The fact this went straight up the ladder directly to Bn lvl NJP is wild.

As a former US Army 11B, garrison sucks bad enough as it is. You know you are just training up to deploy again. You pick weeds out of cracks, separate light rocks from dark rocks, train, clean the motorpool, stay at work late because the arms room cannot get the count right on bayonets, etc...Then before you deploy, you know you get to spend a terrible month at NTC, or JRTC. I was a team leader for 2 years before I ETS'd. There is no way in hell, I would ever have given my soldiers "homework". Hell I just wanted to go home and get drunk and pray no one did anything stupid to get us all called back to work for a safety brief then sit around for hours and wait to be released. Plenty enough time at work to make you're guys knowledgeable at their job.

I think it was a good thing I chose reserve over active duty. Active duty personnel are more likely to face military disciplinary actions from NJP to DHD whereas reserves aren’t even close.

Dear Trell: I was once a chief prosecutor in the Military Justice section within 2nd MAW (“swing with the Wing”). You could have always requested a court martial and refused NJP. Further, you could’ve requested a panel of members (jurors) with a 1/3 enlisted component. Why didn’t you elect this option if you believe that the aggregate of the charges were without merit, you should’ve put it to the test in court. And don’t say such would’ve been a “rubber stamp “ conviction. I prosecuted many cases in which an accused was acquitted of charges. Your use of social media using depictions of internal Marine Corps operations, regardless of how mundane the situation is, was a bad idea from the start. Where you went wrong was bringing the Marine Corps into some degree of disrepute by your own admission for such things as not complying with personal grooming regulations. As a former NCO, you were supposed to be an inspiration to Marines under your supervision. I’m not saying here that I necessarily agree with all of the charges which you related to your viewers, but under Article 134, the so called “novel offenses “ charge contained in the UCMJ, the sum total of your transgressions crossed a line. Article 134 provides that conduct is punished as a disorder or neglect to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, or of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, then the following proof is required: (1) That the accused did or failed to do certain acts; and (2) That, under the circumstances, the accused’s conduct was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces. By your own admission several of your videos depicted you and therefore the Marine Corps in unsat personal appearances (unshaven, earrings). Those transgressions and others clearly were prejudicial to good order and discipline, especially for an NCO, and did bring some degree of discredit on the Marine Corps. You voluntarily declared yourself an AD Marine and viewers not in the military were shown a Marine NCO in various unsat personal appearances. Why you did this is beyond me. You know as an NCO of Marines that it’s a 24/7 duty of every member to “represent” so to speak. But when you represented on more than one occasion a Corporal of Marines in such a condition you’re bringing discredit upon the Corps. You are clearly an intelligent and charismatic man who earned two chevrons. With that comes more responsibility and you knew this. Did your videos denigrate good order and discipline? Arguably, yes. And I seriously doubt you were never counseled about some of these things before notice of an NJP. Someone in your chain of command must’ve mentioned some of this to you before charges got preferred. Social media is a land mine for a Marine. There are also many other professions where social media use also has land mine capabilities. In my former experience, it’s unlikely you were hit in the face with this without either prior counseling, formal or informal. What’s sad is the fact that I believe you when you speak about how exemplary you otherwise were as a small unit leader. I like you. I’ve seen some of your content and I wish this never happened. But social media has helped to unravel our country in some ways such that it’s fabric begins to tear. You clearly were staff NCO material in the making. Even possibly drill instructor capable. I think both sides lost here. And I’m not necessarily agreeing as to how all of this was handled. Please don’t interpret my comment as a knock on you. I’m more upset at how the Corps lost a good NCO and that you got out. It’s not easy making Corporal. Your junior Marines undoubtedly looked up to you, which is why this KZfaq crap was more serious than any civilian can appreciate. I just don’t understand why you of all people would think some of this stuff would be kosher. And the “everyone else does it” argument doesn’t hunt. You were a leader. With that comes more responsibility than perhaps one of lower rank. I can tell you that no commissioned officer could’ve gotten away with this in the aggregate. I do support you and thank you for your service and it’s sad for everyone that a solid NCO destined for greater things got jammed up with this, but your viewers probably don’t understand how being a Marine comes with a s**t ton of responsibility. To a civilian of course all of this is bogus, but you should educate them on how and why being a Marine NCO is VERY DIFFERENT from civilian life. I’m not saying you’re guilty because I wasn’t there and didn’t know all the facts, but having prosecuted so many cases in my job, I could see how your command wasn’t too enthralled by your posts. Bottom line: I love ya; thanks for your service and I regret what happened to you, but I thought that your viewers ought to know more about military justice and Corps rules, regulations and culture could’ve been adversely affected by some of your posts. I believe that if you were less than an NCO, all this would’ve happened but you knew the increased responsibility to “show out.” So, please haters, don’t think I’m dog piling on this Devil Dog. I’m more upset the Corps lost a future great staff NCO. I’ma even gonna subscribe my man because you’re interesting. Semper Fi

I'm glad I was out before social media was a thing. I got out in January of '01. Some of the charges you listed were legitimate (smoking/vaping in the barracks room) but the stuff about videos and whatnot, that is just a bunch of crap. But then, I'm Old Testament and never had to deal with what the Corps has become with the advent of social media.

I got railroaded also in July 87. Battalion NJP for having empty beer cans in the room. Yet I wasn't in the room all weekend. Was down in Fuetema visiting a friend. Had PCS orders like 2 weeks later. Got busted to PFC. But got to my next unit, stayed motivated and right b4 the Ball in Nov 87, my bust was vacated like it never happened. That's great Leadership, a wrong was righted.
