This video is all about, Why I Got Out of the Marine Corps. Why I decided the Marine Corps was no longer for me? Why I no longer liked the Marine Corps? Why I'm getting out the Marine Corps? Why I had to leave the Marine Corps? This video is going to be raw. This video might make you not want to join the Marine Corps. This video might not make you want to become an United States Marine anymore. Just know your Marine Corps experience might be different from mine. I'm just sharing with you what I went through while I was in the Marine Corps and why I no longer wanted to be in the Marine Corps. Hopefully this video was a help, and as always thanks for watching.

MEUs and Combat deployments you will feel accomplishment from all that training. Garrison life is what breaks most Marines. 1. Too many high school type shit going on. 2. Hurry up n wait 3. Repetitive training that will damage your body in the long run. 4. Too much partying, not accomplishing personal goals

I retired as a CWO-5. My son joined and did 4 years and got out. He said the same thing as you did, the leadership let him down. We were stationed in Hawaii together, but I could not step in when he had issues. So I understand because just about every Marine that worked with me re-enlisted and went on to become successful. My son even said every Marine that he meet that worked with me or had worked with me respect all aspects of my leadership and ability to make them what they were at that point. So there is good out there in the Marine Corps.

My dad was a M.SGT and I was with him at camp Pendleton he ended up retiring etc. but stayed on base for sometime before eventually leaving. I told him about I was going through which was almost exactly as this video described it. I got out after 4 years, even my dad told me to get out because the Marine Corps has turned into crap, there is/was too much toxicity to keep younger Marines around because of the treatment and/or living conditions everyone just wanted to get out when I was in. Some that I knew stayed because they are just able to tune out the BS they deal with and just do their thing I guess. I met only a few good officers compared to the majority that actually understood enlisted Marines and the BS that the USMC throws at people.

I think of all branches, the Corps is the one that needs a major update the most. Good marines end up being one termers or enlist somewhere else and I don’t blame them. I think the culture is the issue, this whole treatment of standardization needs to go and it needs to run on merit and hard work. People join the military because of opportunity and respect. My experience is in the civilian world it’s all Rah but once you put on that uniform.. it’s all out feudal system.

I totally feel you on everything you’ve said. My dumbass made the mistake to re-enlist thinking things would get better, but in reality it’s a shit show. I joined in 2016 and I don’t get out until December of 2023. It feels like I literally just imprisoned myself. Like at this point I’m just trying to slip through the cracks, do my time honorably, and get out lol everyday when I wake up I have no motivation at all whatsoever to get out of bed and put on the uniform or get ready for PT. I wake up hating living the marine corps lifestyle and it drains the hell out of me. I wake up not knowing what ima get yelled at for, not knowing what the hell is going on this or that day, getting pointless phone calls, and it’s mentally tiring. Even as a Sergeant I feel like I still get treated like a kid lol Idk who said that the marine corps is the best branch but they’re wrong. Sounds like a lot of arrogant and ambitious marines would say that. There’s a reason why 85% of marines don’t re-enlist. That’s why we’re called “the few.” Because if the marine corps was so great, they’d have just as much, if not more, service members as the army does.

It’s a shame how toxic and unprofessional some of these chains of command have become in the military as a whole. What made me get out was when I realized the leadership I was dealing with tried to pretend that they uphold the standards and values of the branch they serve and tried to enforce it on us. Also pretending that they had their subordinates best interest when almost every decision that was executed was only for their own benefit. I can respect and tolerate a superior who’s real about how messed up they are without trying to fake it. Because then I know what to expect every time I deal with them. But for those who try to fake being who they are for themselves and others I absolutely abhor. It’s deceitful. At the end of the day it taught me no matter how much training, discipline or combat experience some people have had, their hearts remain the same and once they get in a position of leadership and possess a little power that hidden person comes out and all that experience becomes obsolete.

I went into the Corps before the wars when the Corps was at one of its lowest points with its lowest numbers. I remember officers telling me there is a real possibility or the USMC disappearing in the future. No body wanted to be Marines and being a recruiter was a death wish for your career. Marines were "jarheads" just worthless trouble makers. When I was a young PFC I remember being thrown out of establishments just because I was a Marine in uniform with crazy people calling the police on me. We were hated... Wasnt until the wars started that numbers and love for the Corps started to pick up. I just stuck through it all thick and thin I loved the Marine Corps it was my only family.

This is exactly why everyone leaves after their first enlistment. I had a reenlistment package in after my first 4 years to lat move to artillery but decided like you that the “big green weenie” got enough of me. When I told the retention recruiter at Camp Schwab on Oki I’d decided not to reenlist after all, he tore me a new like I had just shit all over him. His reaction and subsequent threats to NJP me for wasting his time was the beginning of me realizing I was making the right decision. The biggest single problem with USMC retention is poor leadership at the junior NCO level, followed by ego-tripping. I’ve met several guys who were Army 11B and man, what a difference they had experienced. They are much more treated like a part of a team , and once you prove effective in your job, you’re not treated like shit as much as Marines are. It’s ironic that the big picture Corps treasures The Marine Corps, but treats junior enlisted (the backbone of the Corps) like dogshit. Anyway I hope you keep posting and keep grinding at whatever you do.

Glad she cared so much to wake me out of that stupor. I had like everyone else great times in uniform, and some absolute crap times due to those cogs in the system that are not there for the troops and only there to ticket punch playing their power trip games and indulging in a war of humiliation on those they deemed a threat to their power and or ego. Those bad apples take away most of the good right off.

Nailed it! Unfortunately, every Marines experience is different. I value my experience 💯✅ but in my 2 units it always evolved to toxic. Really bad staff NCO’s that got off on ruining morale. I think the Marine Corps is going to start to hold leadership more accountable and who knows … may use retention rate as a metric, that’ll change that toxic bs they like to dish out …. Time will tell.

It always sucks when people ruin this service for others. I've tried my hardest not to be a robot while in and man is it tough. And I didn't believe in the cliché "be the change you want to see" until I was that change. Having my marines stay back late because being at the unit didn't suck made me feel great and like I was doing things right. My guys constantly told me they missed me when I was gone and would ask me to get orders back because moral had plummeted. Get to know your people, look out for them, help them, have fun with them. Idk how many breifs I've sat through where I heard "blah blah blah we're a family" and then see that command treat it's "family" like dog shit. In reality it takes time and effort to be a good leader (not tooting my own horn, I'm full of flaws) and it's much easier to be that guy that's just angry and by the book and doesn't have to see the human side of things because the marine corps doesnt require you to do so. Marines will never want to stay in with terrible marines having positions over them and it's really hard to argue against it. TYFYS man, sorry for the rant, I hope you enjoy your life on the outside!!

I see exactly where you’re coming from, had the same thing happen in the fleet (except get NJP’ed) and I couldn’t do it anymore, All love to the brothers in arms out there and to the ones that actually cared about how you felt and what you did. So grateful to have the experience at Parris Island and learn what it was like being a marine by going through ITB & the fleet. But it got old very fast, it feels like a big frat club with a lot of people power hungry and lacking the sentimental value. I knew that was my calling to separate from that. I don’t know what it’s like outside of infantry, but if someone is reading this, and thinking about enlisting. Please do good on the ASVAB and find a proper job in there so you can get paid for school and use those skills as a safeguard for the real world.

Same shitshow, and as an introvert it was completely draining being around all of it, even in the barracks I felt I couldn’t take a break. That’s why you were gold to have a car and be able to get away on the weekends… Fortunately, the NCOs in my platoon were overall very decent guys who tried to look after you. Made all the difference. I guarantee you that some of your marines still remember you doing the same for them.

All of it is specifically to infantry my guy. Just know every job will always have its cons. We live in a time where every single person will always complain about something and get real soft and butt hurt when they get in trouble.. I hear all the time since I'm joining, that there are military jobs ppl hate! But if you score high enough on your asvab, shouldn't you get to pick a great and nice job instead of infantry?? Think about it and don't get caught up in this negativity that some ppl are trying to spread. Marine corps and military itself is still a great career and just know that there are civilian jobs, like ones I've ever only did, SUCKS probably way worse than anything some ppl will say. There will always be the ones saying something sucks in any kind of occupation. And this particular one look what he's doing for work, KZfaq.

I joined in 2014 got out in 2018 and everything you said was basically my experience except a demotion back to LCPL, When I got to CPL I tried to be different and not yell at everyone for no reason to have respect out of fear and for junior Marines to do what you say out of fear. My SGT didn't like that and said I need to treat it like a business and I just didn't listen to that. they eventually FAP'd me out to military police to get rid of me and they never sent my MOS for that because my MOS was small in number and needed and that's how I knew they didn't like how I wanted to lead. But in reality it was the best thing they ever did for me. that MP battalion in Camp Pendleton felt like a brotherhood and everyone was chill with each other regardless of rank. But by that time the damage was done with all the toxic BS and I basically gave up and road and easy rode out and stayed my last whole year as an MP. If there wasn't such a shitty environment I would likely still be in, All I wanted to be was a Marine when I grew up and I was so proud in the beginning but the toxicity will tear you down unless you have a string of luck and I always think they musta had it easy or lucky if they are still in.

When I was young I idolized the military. I was so proud the day I graduated. Then I got to the fleet. Within a month I knew I would never reenlist. I idolized the military for a decade and the marines destroyed that enthusiasm in a month. I got Fapd out to the guard, and thr incoming 1st Sgt was mad because I was the only ammo driver in the batallion able to drive ammo off base. They wanted me to extend really bad, but I never budged. Not problem. I remember sitting on my butt on post at the armory at 5 am watching old batallion start a 18 mile hike and I smiled because while they were hiking, I was chilling.

My relatives don’t know who I am. I was a number. It was a lucky one though. I have all my health care and dental through the VA. I am a disabled veteran. It took me forever to be proud that I was a Marine. The Marine Corps eats its young. That’s why there are so many short timers. Only if you know the right people can you really advance beyond Corporal. I am thankful for my time in. I learned a lot. I would do it again.
