Trendy High-Low Ruffled Baby Top With Shorts Cutting and Stitching/DIY Trending Baby Top With Shorts
Hey everyone! Welcome back to [ Stitch & Style by Savita ]. Today, I’m super excited to show you how to make a trendy high-low ruffled baby top with matching shorts. This DIY project is perfect for summer and super cute for your little ones. So, let’s get started!
Materials:
• Fabric (cotton or any light-weight fabric)
• Measuring tape
• Scissors
• Pins
• Sewing machine
• Thread matching your fabric
• Elastic band
• Pattern paper
Step 1: Creating the Pattern
1. Measure your baby’s chest, waist, and the desired length for both the top and shorts.
2. Draw a simple high-low top pattern on your pattern paper. The front will be shorter and the back longer.
3. For the shorts, draw a basic shorts pattern. Ensure it’s roomy for comfort.
4. Add seam allowances to all your pattern pieces.
Step 2: Cutting the Fabric
1. Pin the pattern pieces to your fabric and cut them out.
2. You should have two pieces for the top (front and back) and four pieces for the shorts (two front and two back).
Step 3: Sewing the Top
1. Start by sewing the shoulder seams of the top, right sides together.
2. Next, sew the side seams.
3. For the ruffles, cut strips of fabric twice the width of the top. Hem one long edge of each strip.
4. Gather the unhemmed edge and attach the ruffles to the bottom edge of the top, front and back.
5. Hem the neckline and armholes by folding the edges twice and sewing.
Step 4: Sewing the Shorts
1. Sew the front pieces together at the crotch seam, right sides together. Repeat for the back pieces.
2. Join the front and back at the side seams and the inseam.
3. Create a waistband by folding the top edge down twice and sewing, leaving a small opening to insert the elastic.
4. Measure and cut the elastic to fit your baby’s waist, insert it through the waistband, and sew the ends together. Close the opening.
5. Hem the bottom edges of the shorts.
Step 5: Final Touches
1. Check all seams and hems for any loose threads or unfinished edges.
2. Give your new baby top and shorts a good press with an iron.
