Hes never not been at his best, just look at the stats, hes the best attacking full back in the world, defensively he gets caught out, not cos he cant defend, but cos klopp asks him to play so advanced that he will get caught out sometimes, its risk and reward. Klopp has been interviewed multiple times, and said if he gets caught out, its my fault, if I told him to sit back and not get forward, hardly a thing gets past him. Liverpool play a system where henderson or another DM arent meant to cover when the wing back gets forward, thats a system thats got Liverpool to 3 out of 5 CL finals last 5 seasons

@@joeexotic5831 not true, watch his positioning when he’s subbed on the other night for England bro, nothing to do with Klopp’s liverpool, he drifts towards RCM naturally If he can’t adjust, that’s what’s keeping him out of the England team Walker offers more offensively and defensively simply because of his pace, he’s not as technically gifted as Trent but his pace can progress the ball up the pitch effectively and get back to defend

@@JohnSmith-lh1qtthat’s probably what southgate asks of him for England, southgate has said he thinks trent can play cm, I don’t know tbh, i think he would be better in the dm but we have rice n phillips, i also think trent is a victim of his own success, he’s been so good for Liverpool since he went pro that if he is off form or the team is off form that it is so noticeable because of how key he is to Liverpools attack whilst being a defender, so many football fans in the world so many opinions, most of them are shitting on opposing players any chance they get but I think this is a blip in his career

He's spot on, at his age to have done what he's done, and won what he's won, and had seasons where we've lost 1 or 2 games, and only conceded a handful of goals every season, while he has 15 -20 assists. He should have been left in England, 5 starts in his career for england is a complete joke.

I think Trent is clearly held to really high standards. But he is like Dani Alves in his prime. Even Alves was very suspect defensively but Barcelona dominated games so often, it was barely noticed. That is what happens with Liverpool. When they're flying, he stands out because he makes things tick. When they are not flying, he is the first one to be looked at under a microscope because the team is underperforming.

Terrible take, it isn’t Trent’s defending ability, statistically he’s as good as the best CBs in the league (obviously not the first 2 months of this season, but everyone has dips in form), I just wish people would listen to the manager, he has specifically said on multiple occasions the space behind Trent is there by design to get him as high up the pitch as possible when we have the ball. For the last 5 seasons it’s been the midfields job to stop those balls behind the fullbacks and they’ve done a great job up until the last 2 months of last season when we started to get caught, and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that that has coincided with Fabinho being woefully out of form. He got better just before the World Cup and so did our form. Was it just him to blame? Clearly not, as I said Trent had a poor first two months of the season and Robertson has been caught way more than Trent ever was lately (twice v City) as his form isn’t what it was. But here’s the crucial points people seem to miss 1/ we have massive injury issues not helped by the refusal to pay for midfield reinforcements this summer, as Klopp said when talking about not signing a midfielder “one moved somewhere else, one wasn’t available and ONE WAS TOO EXPENSIVE” so he was told by the club a target was too expensive when we’re the 4th highest earning club in the world and just 9th for net spend in England. And 2/ we got within 2 games of a quadruple, no English team has ever gotten near that close because of how competitive this league is and that is bound to have a big effect on the psychology of the players in the short term

Southgate's fault - he wanted an excuse for not picking him and choose that and now the media haters pick up on everything he does. Look at the England Senegal game. Walker was megged in their 1st attack but neither the commentators not pundits mentioned it. He also got skinned several times and was lucky not to be booked but all we hear is how he played well - he did set a record for the most back passes, several from deep in Senegal's half. He will get done by Mbappe without doubt. We have lacked a player who can put in long accurate balls and has vision but Southgate is to timid for that and is wasting his talent.

It’s not that he can’t defend it’s just that he doesn’t have the same energy and tenacity about doing as attacking defending is mostly about mentality and Trent would rather create a goal than stop a goal which isn’t a bad thing at all it just means he’s an all or nothing player he’s willing and able to make passes other players wouldn’t even try but at the same can cost you a goal at times

I don't believe that Liverpool would've done what they have done in this Klopp with Trippia, James or Walker. Trent was very instrumental in that success and got all praises, but was never considered for England; and this was before the complains about his defending started to make headlines. The fact is that England plays different and suits other players, but I wouldn't say that those players are necessarily better than Trent because I don't think they could sub Trent in Liverpool and still be same (Liverpool).

@FreshAlchemy

I wish football pundits and fans would stop misusing the word 'pragmatic'. It is not synonymous with being defensive!! Do you know what would be pragmatic in a football match? Scoring goals, and scoring more of them than the opposition, since you cannot win a football match without scoring goals, that is pragmatic. That doesn't mean to neglect defending either, but there's nothing pragmatic about getting beaten while playing defensive tactics. That is literally the opposite of what pragmatic means.

every defender makes mistakes. i wont be naming others like walker or cancelo who got exposed as well in a top team and saying mistakes are fine etc. Surely Trent could have defended better and I have confidence in him that he will improve just hearing the way he spoke. I do feel for him when loads of pressure on him and affecting his performance when people say Trent cant defend and cost a goal while the whole team made series of mistakes how can you put the blame solely on him? And in the next game he would be less courageous to defend under the pressure. Thats not helpful to nurture a talent.

Southgate has obviously achieved great success as a Premier League manager, which is why he'll go on to be England's best manager of the last 6 years. Gareth knows something that Klopp doesn't, which is why Klopp, who has only won everything possible to win in England, Europe and the world at club level with Liverpool, plays Trent every match. There's no way Klopp could have got that Middleborough team relegated from the top flight. Good luck, Gareth Southgate.

Remember when AWB was compared to Trent? And the argument back then was that - 'AWB was a better defender'...modern say football has evolved beyond a FB just knowing how to defend. FBs are now expected to contribute to the attack and logic suggests that when you go forward and get caught out because you are in an advanced position. People are lazy in their analysis truly.

The English were hoping and preying for his downfall and waiting like vultures to bite when he's down. Absolutely disgusting. Trent set the bar for all world fullbacks "Reece > Trent" "Wan Bissaka > Trent" "Every fullback in the world > Trent". Let the young'un get on with his game, it's Liverpool's business, not anybody else's.

What do you mean "the English"??? Shut up. I'm English and was not doing any such thing. And that's just not because I support Liverpool but also because I think for myself on any given issue and am not part of some mindless, collective of people who all have the same thoughts and feelings called "the English", because actually, no such collective exists outside of your atrophied mind. I would've agreed with everything else you said but I'm getting sick and tired of reading anti-English hate from the world and his wife. Obviously it would be the intelligent approach to nuance your point of view rather than just generalising against millions of people as simply "the English". It's beyond lazy, it's beyond ignorant, it's just completely dumb.

I personally think the criticism over this guy is so exaggerated at the point Liverpool fans can’t see how lucky they are to have such a good fullback like Trent. I’ll pay to see him in my squad, some of his fans would sell him for free, sometimes I think what they really want more, they’re never satisfied.

As good as Trent is. He isn’t as good as walker at defending. And the crosses aren’t that much better than walker to justify the lack of defending. Walker is also bigger, faster, more powerful. Having said that without doubt TAA would be my number two easily.

Take Trent out of it for a second. Walker makes plenty of mistakes. His pace is the only thing that saves him a lot of the times. Also, Walker offers absolutely nothing going forward. He has next to no crossing ability, he is basically a sprinter with amazing recovery pace and that’s about it. Trent is a million times the player Walker is.
