Probably the last tablet I need to review for a while. If you're looking for an affordable pro grade alternative to wacom tablets, XP Pen is bringing a lot to the table at an affordable price. yeah I almost dropped 600 on a intuos and found a huion for 140 at the same specs and features I just don't understand wacoms prices, I guess the lack of competition is the reason but damn it's silly

I'm still in awe how the Deco 3 tablet is still a lot more affordable compare to Wacom Intuos Small given its double size and 8192 levels of pen pressure sensitivity. Not to mention the included artist glove and pen case/stand as well!

I use a xp pen deco 01 since 2 years ago and it works perfectly fine with sai and krita. Very impressive for it's price, perhaps my favorite tablet of all so far.

Yo, Trent! Thanks for the info, man. I'm super late to the channel but your videos have definitely helped me. I went back to art school after working at a full-time job I hated for many years, just graduated, jumped off the cliff and not quite sure where I'm gonna land. Was focused on comics but have been looking at concept art more now since I play games more than I read comics these days. Thanks for the review trent. I got this tablet last month and what can I say, it is really really good. I came from an old intuos pen and touch small (which is still working, just need a bigger tablet) and I can say it is really a worthy upgrade. Bigger drawing area and higher pen pressure. The driver issue and paper like texture that you are experiencing are more or less of nitpick in my opinion given you dont expect most people to use multiple drivers at once and I personally like the paper texture than a glossy/smooth surface. My only concern is durability. Hopefully it would last long.

I have this model and I had an Intuos Pro Medium before (for comparison) and I love it. I also have a screen tablet from xp-pen, the 15.6 model and it also works great (only weak point is color reproduction that they fixed in the later models). I use them for different purposes and I think they're really good products. And the best part is that their combined cost is just a bit more than my old Wacom tablet 🤣

I have a deco 03 for almost an year so far I have been loving it. For some the downside would be it doesnt have tilt function like wacom tablets or even some huion tablet have, but I never used the tilt on my intous 4 so its fine for me. I use it with krita and medibang paint pro/firealpaca on windows. For medibang/firealpaca it works completly fine, but in krita it can have some problems with lines being too wiggly but thats easily fixed by using brush smoothing on weighted and also from time to time I can get some random lines but since its not a constant problem I can deal with it fine. Now about the wireless feature, the range is small, its just there to not have more wires on your table, but works great.

Great video, and beautiful drawing, Trent. After alot of research, this was the tablet I I bought to replace my aging Wacom Intuos 3 to get me back into drawing. Way cheaper than buying another Intuos (now Pro). B/c it's wireless and thin, very quick to just pull it out and start drawing instead of fumbling w/ the larger Intuos and moving the wires out of the way. When trying to rebuild a habit, always better to remove obstacles, right =) USB receiver works better for me b/c I plug this in a dock so I can switch btwn my personal and work computer (bluetooth doesn't tend to switch devices very well). It's only missing tilt for me, but I never used it in on the Intuos anyway. My skill is not pro, so tbh I couldn't even tell the diff between drawing on this and my old Intuos since that also felt grainy and papery.

Hey Trent, I can really tell you love your Intuos Pro. That shiny surface indicates some serious hours on the thing and it's probably as slick as a gloss black piano at this point. Ironically, it's a bit hard to abandon graphic tablets for displays once you've gotten used to it. I want to put more hours into my Cintiq 16, but an Intuos and a laptop is still too convenient and my iPad pro just doesn't provide the workflow that my Intuos does even though doing line work is so much more fun on the iPad

Nice video I've been using it about 6-7 months by now and i am very happy with the results. Only complain is about the wheel it's to hard to rotate idk why btw maybe factory broken but I don't use it that much so.. in the end i am good with it !!

For a little bit more you can now get the Deco Pro, which has tilt support and also works with android phones, so it's even better. I myself have the Deco 01 and am very happy with it. The only thing missing is tilt support and a wheel, so I'll upgrade to the Pro as soon as I can afford it. I've actually tried display tablets, too, but prefer to have a nice big brilliant screen that I can look up at and that isn't half-covered by my hand.

I've got a Deco 02 because I don't really need wireless and that big scroll wheel ist just so appealing. Between my old Wacom Bamboo and an old-ish Intuous a few years back, this is by far the best tablet I've ever used. That physical wheel on the 02 is a game-changer. I just saw they're coming out with an updated Deco model now, and it's got TWO scroll wheels and TILT, holy heck. Kinda hope they'll send you one, because that'll be an interesting one to see in action.

I love your reviews they appear neutral on product and artist biased. Meaning you're looking our for the artist first. We all know Wacom is the team to beat but healthy competition is always nice.

The samurai kid is not your strongest work but MAN OH MAN DO I LOVE YOUR MECHA DESIGNS! Your robots look like they were built for heavy work with all that industrial design! I love how you start the sketch very loosely and then goes on refining it bit by bit, adding design elements during the rendering stage as if it was nothing whereas mine look like crap no matter how hard I try... I really need to work on that aspect of my artwork.

I spent so much money on Wacom in the past few years and I finally made the jump to Huion and XP-Pen. Huion is fine, but XP-Pen has that stylus feel I've gotten used to (Huion is much more springy and I can't stand it), but for a third of the price. I have literally bought more XP-Pen tablets than I need because relative to Wacom price it's just waaaay better value. Just. Freaking. WOW!

I am an artist hailing from the pencil, paper and ink realm, but after watching channels such as your own, I thought I would try my hand at digital art. I purchased this tablet a week ago after doing some (remember I said, SOME, and keep this in mind lol) online research and comparison and felt this would suit me in my entry-level digital art endeavors and the price tag wasn't going to break the bank. Sadly, my laptop isn't up to specs because it's a CHROME Book ...and as much as I know...I really should have known better. So, now I am going to a friend to help build a laptop that can handle the drivers. Though I am happy to hear I've made a good buying decision I am bummed that I didn't even think of the hardware I am using as I was caught up in the excitement of using a new tool to draw with.

Btw. you know, i am using wacom intuos pro small one for like 3 years...and i’m transfering to xp-pen..Just ordered Artist Display 12 one....I feel like theres no need these wacom’s to be that much expensive, it could be maybe a bit cheper...They cost more then enough ‘coz they are a brand i feel..Also i feel XP pen cares about individual artist’s, students both pro and beguners..Wacom is like targeting the big pockets bois. Big studios and such...Also in In those 3 years of usage of wacom i encountered 3 times issues with thwyr driver updates where my workflow was kinda ruined and me getting into rage mode. I mean, thy so expensive and ‘pro’ brand to have those..i mean what the hell..I feel you can create pro stuff with XPpen guys as well..And i like it more that i feel like they care...Wacom has those eleganta stuff and they are better..But not that better to have that huge difference in costs i believe.

For people having trouble with ZBrush: Try closing and reopening it. I've found when ZBrush/Core auto-runs after using the installer,. It'll never play nice with my XP-Pen Star tablets. Close it and re-open manually. Failing that, try a reboot. If it's still failing after 1 reboot, it's probably not the same issue I was having.

Hi Trent. maybe you have done it before but how do you draw on a screenless Tablet so effectively given if you move your pen off the tablet you lose the exact point you were at last. So how do you effectively use this type of tablets. Because i have one for years and haven't used it because the thought of always trying to figure out where to place my the pen on the tablet to continue the sketch would be time consuming but yet you look as if you're drawing on a tablet with a screen.

if u want a really fast glassy finish get some rubbing alcohol (you cant use water for electronics so alcohol is an alternative) and a very very fine grit sand paper and 20-30 mins later you should be all ready (you can use a micro fiber towel and just give it some elbow grease but it will take more time) . DO NOTE I CANNOT REASSURE anyone that this will or will not ruin the plastic.

I have been using XP Pen products for a year now, and while I am very happy with my DECO 03 I think I received a flawed device, it's impossible for me to have the tablet put out 8K pressure without putting immense pressure on my pen, which I'm not comfortable with. But other than that, a great device, I've gotten used to it and managed to work around the pressure!

I think thats how all tablets are. Like im still using Wacom Intuos 3 (bought it in 2005) and it has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. The thing is, that if i were to use the tablet with the default settings, i would have to press the pen *really hard* to get it to register the 1024th pressure level. I dont want to press that hard while drawing. Also if i were to move the softness vs firmness slider in my tablet driver settings, it will only change the shape of the pressure curve. 100% pressure will still be on the 1024th level. What you really want to do is cap the pressure curve. Like for example i have set 100% pressure somewhere between 750 to 800 levels of pressure. Sure. I lose some a portion of the pressure range, but i dont have to press the pen with all my might anymore to get 100% pressure. Your tablet has over 8000 levels of pressure. So even if you cut the maximum level of pressure in half (using the pressure curve in the tablet drivers), you will still have plenty of range left.... Sorry, im not sure if any of what i wrote makes sense. I suck at writing.

Any chance for a bigger comparison between multiple tablets, pros and cons? I've been in market for a first display tablet but not sure what to get, I'm sure many would appreciate it with the upcoming black friday and holiday sales! One vid for tablets with display and one for without.

If you don't already have anything like that, just get an ipad with procreate. If you have a windows machine and you want a "draw on the screen tablet/display" I'd get the xppen artist12 or spring for the cintiq if you have the money.

Drivers are on the USB stick, but not sure how up to date they are. Just like the old installation CDs, I never used them cause they always had old software on them. So might as well just go to the website and get up to date drivers... Sketchbook Pro is not free (not that I saw anyway), but for $19.99 it's almost free.

I have an XP-PEN Artist 22e which I guess I've had almost 2 years now? Huh. Anyway, I really like XP-Pen, I think their products are good and customer service has been good, but they have some growth needed in their marketing and professionalism. I have an old back/shoulder injury and I'm finding it hard to work on a display tablet for long periods. There are definitely pros and cons to working directly on a screen, and posture is a big concern here. I find myself missing my old Intuos 3: better posture directly looking at the monitor instead of being hunched over it, not blocking my view with my own arm as I draw, better access to my keyboard for hot keys (22e has Express keys which help so much but still not enough). Again, my 22e is still good, but I think I will revert to a non-display model for my next device. Also way more affordable!

@@sto1vall It comes with an adjustable stand, which is handy, but I still have issues. I've debated getting something like a VESA mount or Ergotron arm which might help. It's a balancing issue of body posture and access to keyboard and stuff. And keep in mind that my difficulties are largely attributed to injury. It may not bother the average person.

@@KyninhaH have u tried the conversion desk. Standing may help delay fatigue. Once i setup a work area i will invest in a drafting or create a stand. Im on a intuos and lay flat but i still get a sore low back from all the hunching over.....and i know better...lol

it depends on what you want to learn. My Box set 5 is great for concept artists that want to understand the pipeline of doing environment concept for AAA games because it includes my stylized facility workshop. My sketchbook pro collection covers a lot of fundamentals of drawing in general. If you want to learn basic shading and perspective, my easy art lessons are more for the beginner fundamentals. @@TrentKaniuga Essentially it's just a cheap alternative tablet, it's only "special" traits are the now signature Xp-Pen red wheel technology and it's wide sRGB color gamut coverage. I was thinking about doing an unboxing and review myself once it arrived, but would very much like to hear your thoughts if possible

@@husain3190 I don't have a steady hand and ended up getting very blurry footage. I tried my best to make it usable but, it just wasn't. I'd make a review instead, but I don't think my art is good enough to give it any credence.

hi Trent, need a little help from you. since you used both xp pen deco 03 and the xp pen deco pro which one should i pick? . i am planning on doing commission arts. i currently work on samsung galaxy note 9, it's great. but it hurts my eyes working on a small screen. i need a graphics tablet to work on my pc.. just need to know which one between these two is going to be more helpful and easier to work with. which one you will say has better design, better pen and functionality?. btw wireless feature isn't that important to me.and i have the budget for both

you will do just as well with the deco 3. Its my favorite budget tablet. If you want to draw on screen go with the artist12 for little bit more money. These options are still way cheaper than the pro grade tablets.

I'm a little confused and hope someone can help. I've never used or owned a graphics tablet but would like to get one. This looks great but... The pressure sensitivity. From the videos I've seen if you press harder the line gets thicker and wider? That simply doesn't happen with a pencil... It just goes light to darker... Am I missing somehting here?

Could we use fingers to navigate instead of using the pen? Just like a touchpad on the laptop.

I've never seen a pro paint with their finger on the track pad. Its fine if you want to do it, but you will get limited results.

Hey about drivers compatibility does anyone have a solution ? I'm a student concept artist and doing an internship as so and I have to reinstall every f*cking day my wacom then my huion drivers since I own a Huion GT-220 v2 pen display and I'm using a Wacom Cintiq 27QHDT at work. I'm tired of ruining my disk every single day so if anyone has a good answer before I get some feedback from both technical assistances (if I ever get some) that would be lovely

Tried this Deco 3 last year. Found that it was not compatible with ZBrush which is my primary program. It is directly related to the drivers. I contacted them and they sent me 2 different drivers with no success. There was something in their driver that would cause massive lag and also a text balloon showing your key press which ZBrush did not like.

Very strange. Also good to know that there are problems with Zbrush compatibility. I wish I'd tried that for this review.

I just use an refurbished ipad pro they are cheap and you can draw anywhere. :)

if you have 350 bucks, the wacom is better. If you only ha e 100 bucks, the deco 3 is better.

Raycode Albanas autodesk sketchbook pro is free. Trent uses it he has a guide on it. That’s actually how I started watching him 😁

Hi, our tablet support left hand, you can select left mode in the driver and physically rotate the tablet to 180 degrees.
