The Prince outlived MJ line doesn’t actually work w/ respect to the impact of their work. MJ albums/works are still selling, charting, being sampled; the same with Prince. And his music like off the wall still sets sonic standards and standards for visual artists. They were very different artists with different approaches to their work, but both were impactful artists. Both also stopped focusing on hits and started to focus on issues that were important to them. MJ leaned into environmentalism and police misconduct, press, and Prince into free expression, freedom from controlled thought & individualism

I don’t think the most interesting thing about Prince is the number of instruments he played. He was an interesting song writer and performer. He had a different approach to making music. I think people misinterpret the bar to mean prince’s artistry outlived MJ’s & that’s factually untrue.

@@Juana4ev I think it’s amazing that Prince could play multiple instruments. That doesn’t make him the better musical artist. He’s got strong and weak moments in his discography. MJ had great moments as a musical artist. Song writing, a strong vocal identity, an artistic point of view. Etc. they were different musical artists with different strengths but I think equally great musical artists

He got them back after thriller and went on to own ATV, which contained the publishing of almost all of the big artists. MJ’s allegations have been proven false or at least questionable. Prince became the guardian of Mayte when she was 16, keeping her around until he hooked up with her at 18 or 19. I love Prince and don’t see the need to denigrate either artist to uplift the other. You obviously don’t know much about their histories.
