In conversation with Tamala Edwards, anchor, 6ABC Action News morning edition
Known mainly to American audiences as the “charming and composed” (Los Angeles Times) host of the Emmy and Peabody-award winning The Daily Show, Trevor Noah had already won worldwide acclaim with The Racist, his 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival one-man show. The son of a white Swiss father and a black South African mother who had to pretend to be his father’s servant during all-too brief moments of family interaction, he experienced a deeply unconventional childhood during the last days of Apartheid and the unsure years that followed its abolition. Born a Crime is the coming-of-age memoir of a country at the crossroads and Noah’s tender, tough, often funny childhood.

@@Brodio It seems appropriate, somehow, to call her Ms. Patricia. Trevor seems to always acknowledge her by just her first name. He titled one of his shows, "Trevor Noah, son of Patricia." The listener is left with the impression of such a towering personality that all one needs is the single name, like Mandela or Cher, Oprah or Iman. Really, she is an amazing woman.

Well done Trevor. People love sensationalising our problems as a nation in South Africa. We have issues like everybody else but most of it is exaggerated. That's why people were shocked when they came here for the 2010 Fifa World Cup as it was totally opposite to the picture that was painted by the foreign media.

He talks about Get started NOW with plans to effect a positive healthy environment to shape myself and my attitudes because change takes time. Also how Anger can disturb me more than the "others" I presume to target. Enjoyed story of how Jon Stewart transition took place. What an amazing learning experience. I love Noah. However one correction about the "colored" in south Africa. A similar situation arose in Canada, as well as in Malaysia. In Canada, like South Africa, the colonizers created another "race" or cultural identity, which is called the the Métis, who are a created construct of people whose ethnicity is both first nation and white. In Malaysia, I am not sure of the name but there is a similar situation

@lashelle capos Of course, yeah, there's some racism that's taken for granted, like you say, and that needs to change, for sure. I don't believe the cure for that comes from creating more racism aimed at white folks. We have been on the receiving end of bigotry and hate, so shouldn't _we above all_ know how disgusting it is to judge people by the colour of their skin? Yeah, yeah I agree, we need to address the racism that's taken for granted in the system, but what's happening at the moment, all this anger, hate, crime and vitriol, that just drives the racism deeper. We can't lift ourselves up by dragging white folks down, and we sure as hell can't end racism by being racist ourselves.
@luxolontamo4440
@luxolontamo4440 3 жыл бұрын
There's no white folks that are being put down in my humble opinion,I think we just suffering the consequences of racism that took place for such a long time.Blacks are struggling from mental oppression that's still in thier minds even though it's not even the case sometimes and whites are struggling because of the stigma of being associated with racism because they were the perpetrators and that's not fully true cause not all whites are racist.I know it's not you but your ancestors but that is where the privilege comes in which is not the bad thing but that can make your young boy suffer too because he'll also be viewed as the one who benefited from the white supremacy/privilege.So these prejudices are what formed our society, so it's still gonna be a long journey to get rid of all of this.These stereotypes are really what make things worse cause if you are white you're racist,if you are black there's a crime involved somehow and most of the time associated with mediocrity so that is our reality we facing, complaining won't solve the problem either but it gonna make you look like you don't feel sympathy and acknowledge what black people had gone through because you white,ignorant and racist! ..So this is not really black against white but the outcomes of racism to everyone depending in which position you were in.
