When Trevor started to mention the mixes, I was getting ready with some sand and cement to make a realistic gravel path, but thank goodness no need. Trevor puts down these figures at the speed of light and I know why. when I go too slow, my images get worse, but speeding up a little, they appear much better and some quite good. The 'Hover' with the brush is a great tip, rather like the 'Waggle' before you hit the ball in golf. Thank you so much Trevor, it is always such a pleasure to see you working 'live'.

I love to watch the watercolor mingle on the paper and your figures do that- also loving them merging together along with the shadows. Bravo.. Will definitely use this demo in my paintings.

Forgot to mention that I have started using Chinese White in the way you are using it and like it much better than using gouache. I use the latter now only for recovering highlights.

Just what we've been waiting for! Thanks. I found it interesting that you did that raw sienna/perm. rose last rather than first before the figures....same with the cerulean blue for the water. I'm sure you allowed it all to dry though..the figures so that laying down those washes did not smear the figures which were laid down with thick paint. Could you have done those two washes before you did the figures? Or what was your reasoning for the way you did it?

Hi Trevor, Thank you for these. I've got a watercolor illustration to do, and want to step up my game with figures. Great guidance here! As well, I've been working almost exclusively with an approach (that I also do like) of building up from paler washes to darker details. The putting in of the figures first on that large ground plane, and then adding that Rose/Umber wash at the end is kind of a revelation! I'm going to give it a try. I'm wondering, you don't need to worry about activating the paint on the figures it looks like? Any tips about that? Thanks again!
