Ep. 374
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and Eric Edmeades discuss his early experiences with homelessness, the extent and detriment of alcoholism, the changes you can make to restructure your physiological responses, the relationship between trust and sales, and the world of possibility that opens when you embrace the unknown, the potentially dangerous, and above all that which calls to you.
Eric Edmeades, a globally recognized keynote speaker, prolific entrepreneur, and recognized authority in health, practical psychology, and behavioral transformation, has made significant strides in the health and wellness industry. His revolutionary program, WILDFIT®, has positively transformed the lives of over a hundred thousand individuals across more than 130 countries, underscoring his innovative and impactful approach to health. Edmeades is in the process of releasing his forthcoming book, "The Evolution Gap: A Survival Guide for Modern Civilization". This enlightening work explores the growing disconnect between our slow-moving biological evolution and our remarkable ability to innovate at a breakneck pace. Edmeades suggests that this gap is the root cause of much of today's pain, suffering, and disease, and he provides practical strategies to bridge this divide and enhance our collective wellbeing.

Eric, I found this interview relatable- the alcohol history, the shaping of character in Edmonton, even the medal etc. The difference is what impacts me more. As a fellow GenX would you say that at this stage can you still start from scratch combining one's passions into a successful business? Not trying to make excuses but when the public identity does not match the reclusive/ private person; What advice would you give someone who has lived over half century in their reinventing transformation into a marketable commodity in service to others?

@JordanBPeterson do you buy real estate in USA? I am a single mom of two with my home on the market at a fair price but first home owners in this area have unrealistic expectations and want everything perfect. I became a single mom unexpectedly and I don't have the know or funds to make it perfect like they want nor would it make sense without raising the price so It's been great to us and seems move in ready but I guess it would be a good quick real estate opportunity and flip. I just really need help before it goes to foreclosure and the funds to start over. People here make fun of my for caring about healthy eating a lot I learned from you. It's like u have to be obsess to fit it. I also want my kids into a christian school not public. I cant make enough money here without working 2 jobs and I dony get to see my children now and it's awful I'm so depressed and alone. I am 34 and have never ever meet even close to a "man" around here and if u check the statistics its a pretty low chance I ever would. I stayed so long cause my dad lives in this state and stepmom but we don't have a good relationship and I learned to heal through ur teachings but unless I find a new life and people to male better memories my mind haunts me and I cry everyday all day no matter how hard I try. At first I was optimistic and oknwith the new information I was learning but overall u can't beat a place u don't fit in and your alone. I csnt find a friend that doesn't drink or addicted to something or just thinks so basically. I believe in purpose not just survival I always felt it deep down but just did what everyone else did here and was taught. I've always seemed counsel and they all press antidepressants sooooooo hard and it makes it so worse it's like everyone loves to be zombie out. I'm overall pretty happy when I don't feel alone and my kids are amazing and the best and I just want to be there mommy not leaving them home alone or other people watching them feeding them pop tarts and sticking them in front of a TV. With the money I could use my faith and interest to build a business I can run on my own time and be there for them number one otherwise I'm sick and don't see the point of living anymore this is torture and would rather God take me so I can't think about them so much when we can't be together because I'm just trying to keep our head above water and not loose the home I worked so hard to buy 6 years ago. I found out the hard way collage and a title just to impress my family isn't the way like they pushed. I wanna be a mom and cook my babies meals and not be grumpy and be their tontuck them in at night before its to late . Therr growing up fast my 14 year old I can see she needs me I can see where I knew she did and have been coached to much by others but I had to work there father has completely failed us and off the map. My 6 year old it's now a really perfect time to try he doesnt even now what normal is being bounced from place to place for each shift. Please help. It would mean the wo4ld to me. I need a miracle pray and read my bible everyday but it feels God hates me idk I try to live by his law so much each day that I learn so im so confused why are needs aren't meet no matter how much I work or WHT I can't get out of this hustle by now and just have a flow. It's literally killing me im out of strength. 😣

Yes! I have found exactly the same effect. As a teen, a moment happened when I decided to stand up for myself physically, and after that I became the popular person in school and the people in school didn't know about that event. Just the change that happened in me and was radiating. In fact, I'm surprisingly violent for a woman (for anyone I'd say) because when attacked I become both upset but also excited at a chance of doing something like that to someone. I would not throw hands over words, even if I want to, but in defence of myself or others I will respond overwhelmingly. That saved my life, because I don't look like the type, but I am. So my attacker was very mistaken about my potential reaction.

I didn't imagine I was going to hear anything I'd not heard before. I've had difficulty listening to Jordan because he often said things I thought but didn't want to say out loud, but I disliked his arrogance in an interview he took some time ago with a woman who clearly disagreed with him about matters such as personal pronouns. And so I had misgivings about having to sit through this. WELL, not only did I learn things about Eric I didn't know (I'm the mother who raised her voice), I was fully engaged in following the conversation. It was a fun adventure and I've decided that Jordan isn't just ok. I think he's a fine man. There was too much to take in in one sitting - I'm going to have to watch it again.

Hi Chris, I have been surprised by the responses I have had from my own friends over the past few days: a) Most: Congratulatory and celebrating my opportunity to appear on the podcast and spend time with Jordan. b) Some: Previously reluctant to listen to Jordan because of misconceptions but won over by our conversation and now open to hearing more. c) Few: Criticizing me for making the appearance; suggesting that it was wrong of me to do so. It is those last few (you know who you are) that I feel most sorry for; the air pressure becomes unbearable in a confirmation bubble.

Good evening Jordan and Eric Thankyou kindly for this. Your shared conversation serves as a wee fun reminder. I too love the sales world. My Dad being my biggest teacher. In my early teens I was delivering the weekly evening paper, and selling tablet and macaroon in my local neighbourhood. And laterly (parents split) my Mum and I where working the local markets in Glasgow with her new boyfriends market stalls. Learned the stereotypical '2 for a £' 'get yer socks here' sales pitch. Confidence building to say the least. But at 14 and 15 years young did not realise how useful these experiences would be, useful character building skills and more.😀 In my early 20's during college and laterly my first pregnancy. I was telephone 'cold calling' winning leads for the sales team to go sell double glazing and even gym memberships for a brief period. Was fun and competitive. Progressed on to another company, standing with my fancy kitchen and bathroom design display in doorways of big DIY stores, again creating leads for sales team. Soul destroying, exhilarating and character building all rolled into one. Great life lessons. Now nearly 50 years young and after eighteen years of mental health nursing and many more giant size life lessons. Sadly canny even sell the idea to myself to continue with my current employer and role. So thinking can I combine sales, marketing and healthcare somehow. New adventure sought. Always room to learn me thinks. Most Grateful to you both. 💜

Wow. What a brilliant thought Eric shares about consuming Alkohol. It was the story of my life: while being at the party and not drunking and still having fun, and all the people around not be able to have fun without Alkohol and wondering how I can. The reason for that is that I learned to have fun without Alkohol, and so many of the people never learnt it in the first place. Brilliant thought, Eric! Thank you for making it so clear now for me.

The people who were asking how to have fun were “dry drunks”. That’s what I am when I abstain. I also need to learn , but feeling good and healthy should be reason enough to be happy. I’ll give it longer, lol

@@big_red_machine3547 most parties exist for the consumption of alcohol. One can still have fun at those parties but sometimes the fun is had with activities you just do not deem fun without alcohol. For starters you could for example at a dance hall just try and focus on the music and let it flow through you. It takes some balls for most wihtout alcohol to try and feel free just dancing to music. In my opinion these things should be a conscious decision to lose yourself and without the help of alcohol as it disrupts you real you enjoying the moment. It takes balls if youre not used to showing yourself without alcohol. (just an unsorted thought)

For Dr. Peterson great interview covering real topics in a casual conversation. I value how you bring out the backstory without making it sound like an interrogation. It's nice hear that even in dysfunctional upbringing a person can make the conscious decision to evolve and thrive despite what is trending in the world. I'm curious if it's hard knocks that ignites us more than opportunity and being in the right place with the right teacher ( lesson) ?

This is for me without a doubt one of the more transformative conversations. I have always considered myself to have a natural curiosity for sales and marketing but for years have been judging it from what I have now learned (from this episode) to be the misrepresentative portion of practioners, which consequently lead me to avoid any behavior that resembled traditional traits of sales and marketing. I think it goes without saying the adverse effects of proactively avoiding the "effective communication of potential solutions" to problems that presented themselves before me, essentially abdicating my responsibility of using my unique perspective, knowledge and skills to impact change in whatever scale applicable. Now I see the source of my crippling social anxiety and the face of the grim reaper sucking the life out of all endeavours I pursue. Thank you @EricEdmeades and Dr Peterson for liberating my potential with your wisdom.

I liked before i even watched the video, afterwards i think the act got justified beyond anything Absolutely taken one or two lessons with me, especially the one talking about the social gratification in regards to alcoholism and it's contra productiveness in long terms. Talking about my own experiences, i needed to be intoxicated in order to get over the inward-looking and to 'strengthen' my sense of bravery. My anxiety around groups is still extraordinarily high when sober, simultaneously i understood that the consequences of drinking might effect me in a way of an ill-minded dependency. Will definitely watch out for that

Thank you for letting me know my Instinctive Marketing Knowledge is not 'outdated' as I've been told, and that because of my age I am now too old to be hireable... that bit is the sad part, the good part is this conversation and the Why of the conversation gives me a positive light to me about - what I call 'My Intelligent Generalist' self title. When I was a 15 year old girl I noticed that I hardly ever saw perverts and flashers anymore. This was exactly due to the things you were both talking about regarding the Boldness of my character and the way I walked. I promised myself I would always Remember the Reason I never spoke about perverts to adults was Because - they didn't see any - I promised myself I would openly talk with all children about those perverts, so that they knew I knew they see them all the time. Sadly I conformed to "acceptable conversation" with children and somehow it simply didn't seem as important to me anymore as an adult.

Love his story kind of reminds me of my young runaway self. In hard days of the Midwest to the west. The last straw with my mother before I move in with my dad I was couch surfing since I was 8 and my final straw with my mom was 12/13 of age. I've been on my own since I was 16/17 I am now 34 with two kids and maybe one more on the way kind of homeless at the moment but not the point of comment, truly inspiring how a human can adapt to any situations when their back is against the wall before the rock bottom and now how to connect to other human everything will be ok cause that is where I found life more then be coddle of the danger when I was younger. I am glad their is another me in the world just wish I can find a meaning for me in the time of my life. I have all inspiration to do something else just never anytime as the main handler of the family can never any time to improve myself to get better Career and something my kids could look at me to be inspire them to see this world isn't just a news of bad view of life. Would love any suggestions on how or what I could do to start a better me for my family?

@@EricEdmeades hello! Thank you for sharing so openly about your life, I’m taking several pearls of wisdom with me today. It’s so evident to me now that I have children how we “move” in life, I mean the driving forces that put us into action. Sometimes we do it automatically, and for me having children has challenged me to not do that. I think when we go through a difficult process in life we always have the choice of the kind of person we’ll become after that, and having a mind-body that is healthy and happy makes the “elevated” choice easier to choose. I’m looking forward to your book, I think I’ll enjoy it very much as well as this interview. Many blessings from Chile 🌟

look, everyone has their own opinions on everything. I am currently watching this show with this man being interviewed, and is in tears.. it breaks my heart. Instead of focusing on pronous, why can't we focus more on having loving hearts towards each other, ALL of us. We ALL deserve love, no matter our beliefs, we ALL need love and kindness in our hearts. I honestly try to see people for WHO they are inside, not pronous or skin color, social status or anything's else, we are ALL souls in a body that, I consider a vessel, that deserves love and kindness. We shouldn't be attacking each other. If all of the people in world could open their hearts, and be kind to others, we would be living in a better world.❤ we would probably have much better tomorrow.

One thing I will say here is that I'm not big on JBP's recent round of guests that clearly come on to the program with something to sell. Like Eric walked us through his process of closing a sale by getting to know people, their challenges, and offering a partnership/solution at a price. Effective. But this whole episode was that. We got to know him, he brought up problems we're all aware of, and walked through his solution. For a price. I like stimulating conversation that challenges my ideas, not an elaborate infomercial for self-help and lifestyle programs.
@EricEdmeades
@EricEdmeades Жыл бұрын
It is interesting that you saw it that way; we certainly did speak about sales but mostly I felt that this was a biographic interview, which, of course, touched upon my various career choices. I did not come to the show to sell or promote my company but, when it came up in conversation I described it, and my passion for it, accurately. But then I did the same thing when I spoke about selling Kirby vacuums as a kid... Funny thing: When you really believe in something you tend to be passionate about your communication about it...
