This is Awesome! We are moving a 2-6-0 narrow gauge steam locomotive on a trial run over the
rehabilitated and new track that we built here at the Greene County Historical Society.
This narrow gauge locomotive #4 originally ran on the Waynesburg & Washington Railroad
and was built in May of 1916 by American Locomotive Company - Cooke Works, Pittsburgh Pa.
I had said in the video was going to put in clips of building the track out front,
but changed my mind and those clips were on the last video here:
• Building New Narrow Ga...
Second half of the video was taken by Barb Jones and used with permission. We are
very grateful to Barb for allowing us to use her video and also for the countless hours
and tireless volunteer effort Barb and her husband do here at the Society.
See all the videos on the work we did here and the history of the W&W RR,
and more about this locomotive on a playlist on my channel here:
• Waynesburg & Washingto...
In this video I take you on a tour of #4 outside and in the cab and give
some specs and history of this locomotive:

Consider making a contribution to help preserve this unique narrow gauge railroad -
all contributions are tax deductible and are greatly appreciated! Please put on
the check ccrx6700 or WW RR so they will know to earmark your contribution
exclusively for the RR preservation. Thank You!

Thanks so much Russell, these guys here are excellent to work with and be around. We got some big plans for the future here. We are trying to get some grant money to extend the track and get #4 back under steam, so wish us luck, it gonna take a lot of funding, but miracles do happen. Cannot thank you enough for being such a faithful follower of these videos, that is truly special to me.

Awesome job on the track Dave! All of that hard work by you and your fellow volunteers really paid off! I was on the edge of my seat a bit when the pusher locomotive was slipping there, but it was like the little engine that could, and got the job done in the end! Beautiful train on a beautiful track - what more could you ask for 😊

The people are absolutely delighted at what we have seen on this video presentation, locomotive number four looks excellent and the track on which it stands looks excellent also and so in this respect they compliment each other completely. It was such a sensible move to do this, as it were, rehearsal, and it paid off. Full marks to the diesel locomotive and its driver, it may look small but it did all that was required of it. This is a major time which will be remembered by the community and those that visit for many years to come. May you and your subscribers have a very merry Christmas, God bless you.

I worked for The Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad in Greenville Pa back in the 1970s I was on Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees we did welded rail and when that was completed we did panels at Albion, Butler, Coneauate, Shanango Yard hard work but I loved it. @@ccrx6700 Dave, it always is the private car on the back of the Amtrak train that is to blame. 😉 Dad was on the private car we rode on with the owner on the trip from Seattle to CA and back to FL. In route Amtrak had some electrical problems in the HEP in CA. On the Amtrak cars. Well the private cars got the blame. Although both of them were on their own generators and not even hooked up to the Amtrak HEP. 🤣 When you move the steam engine next time you might want to run an air line to the boiler if your Plymouth has a compressor.

Fantastic Your track got a good test there and looks really good. The loco has a flangeless driver I see so it will take tight curves. An idea we used on one of ours. It cannot run on the main network any more because they say the new type of switch crossings we use have a high check rail could and derail it. Looking forward to seeing the light up.

Pretty cool: Here in Walla Walla, Washington near 9th there's an older Union Pacific steam loco parked next to the street. There's also one "coal-type" car attached to it. They've been there for about 65-75 years is the guess. The cool part about it is it was about 8:00 PM and I was on bike on the sidewalk next to the thing. There was coincidentally a guy walking there when I pulled up so we started talking. He mentioned how he, as a kid at the time, watched his grandfather park it where it sits. While doing so, he kept pointing to one of the wheels. "Right there...THAT one." There was a problem with the brakes on that wheel and they were worried if they were going to be able to get the thing stopped in time. There are the links of track it all sits on today still there, obviously, but any remaining track, the way they got them there and so forth is now long gone to the point of one cannot even tell where that WAS. Like...LONG gone. Partially covered in grass, signage, pavement, a building, blahblahblah...(There's a chain-link fence around the display these days.) What are the odds, though? 8 PM...No one around...The ONE GUY who happens to be walking "right there" at that exact moment happens to be the grandson of the guy who parked the thing there some 70 years ago AND he had a big-time story about it. Go figure. That thing looks almost EXACTLY like the one on display in W2. The only difference is the one here has "UP" painted on the side along with the number. Both in white. The city lights the thing up every Christmas season as well.

Excellent observation! Eames vacuum brake system. When the brakes were applied, steam caused a vacuum to be created in the cylinder which caused the diaphragm to collapse which pulled the brake rod. It worked well on short trains with little weight, was inexpensive to purchase, it was used on many narrow gauge RR's in the eastern part of this country.

I was gonna say "I hope Bachmann makes an On30 model of this locomotive one day" but it turns out they already do... Kind of... They have a model of Pennsy 9684, bit they don't have her in her W&W paint scheme. Maybe one day, though. I hope. Maybe if you guys somehow get her operating again Bachmann will release a properly lettered variant. Would be cool to see, in my opinion.

Totally awesome! I looked it up, Amazing!!! I had no clue, cannot thank you enough Mike for sharing that with me!!!! Actually the WW RR was bought by PRR in 1885 and the lettering you saw in the video was the society here paying tribute to both the WW and PRR. that lettering was never original when it was running. It was either WW or Pennsylvania, so Bachmann is correct in their lettering of the model they have for sale. Original smokebox was not silver but a darker shade of silver not as black as boiler. Sometime after it was retired PRR painted the smokebox the light silver color which is what Bachmann modeled it after. The restorers here painted smokebox back to original color a darker shade of silver or lighter shade of black, whichever the case may be.

I wonder if they could put a gasoline powered air compressor in the tender to pressurize the air brakes and throttle while the drive axles are lifted off the track to get them to spin and brake.
