Hilariously, they were correct in calling it like Jalebi--merchants brought Jalebi to Europe, where it became Strauben, then from there to the US, where they added baking powder and it became Funnel Cake! I think the Phillipines also have a similar dish, though this cultural sharing happened so far back that it's hard to say if they brought it West or Jalebi was brought East; both could have also been made independently, since the Filipino version is more akin to funnel cakes iirc

They didn't put toppings like strawberries or chocolate and whipped cream or ice cream when I was little. Just powdered sugar. I still prefer it simple that way. You can taste the flavor of the cake, powdered sugar sprinkled on lightly accents the flavor. When you put all that other stuff on, that's all you taste. The flavor of the cake disappears. Too much sugary sweet flavor.

It is called Funnel Cake because of the way it is made. The batter is poured out of a funnel into the hot oil, hence the reason for how it looks as the batter is poured by making little circles, into the hot oil. The batter will float on top of the oil and make those circular patterns. Once is it fried, the whole piece is removed from the oil and then topped with the powdered sugar. Funnel Cake is something that is often sold at County Fairs, Farm Fairs and most other similar types of events here in the United States.

I hadn't heard of "funnel cakes" but guessed what they were by their appearance. They're "churros" or something similar sounding in many places, e.g. "chichis" (pronounced "she she") in France. I think they taste best when bought from a street stall and eaten in the nearest shady place.

Funnel cakes are not a dough it's a batter like a pancake or waffle batter drizzled into a deep dryer. Churros are made from a dough. So they don't taste the same. But they can be top with some of the same toppings. Fresh strawberrys, cinnamon sugar, chocolate sauce, powder sugar. You see funnel cakes at fairs. They are also called Elephant ears.

Funnel cakes are the ultimate carnival food to me! (Along with churros) I have seen jalebi in my cookbooks, but have never tried it. Will have to make it a point now! 😁👍

I think the sweetest thing is south african koeksisters. They are basically soaked in golden syrup.

Funnel Cake. One of my all time favorite desserts. Simple and delicious, and so easy to make at home.

Here in the US we have funnel cake either with powdered sugar, or drizzled with chocolate or even with cinnamon and sugar...and they are made at our festivals and fairs.

I love funnel cake! The best one I are had sliced strawberries and whipped cream, so delicious! Let them know that funnel cakes are usually made and sold at local County fairs and they’re always popular. 😁

I didn't knew Mr. Rana used dentures, which is the reason I was confused when Chaudhary made the jokes about him having no teeth before hahahaha 🤣

If you go back to their first videos he has no teeth. A dentist from the USA gave him dentures!! Pretty sweet! But he needs adhesive lol
