@@LouieNeira because it most definitely is. That is one of the attractions of a British tea, very specific rules. It is a ritual, something that you don't want to do everyday because it loses meaning. like christian easter or christmas would lose meaning if it was an everyday thing. NOT that tea is on the same level as godder holidays but similar in value.

Mustafa is showing extremely good manners, but he's still as sharp as a razorblade. I find, just like Mustafa, that some of the English teatime manners are posh and arrogant, and they remind me of the Coloni times. I'm glad that everybody felt they were given something special. Now You have an idea on what to serve with the tea, and everything can be replaced with whatever local food comes closest - it doesn't have to be expensive

Speaking of British traditions, it would've been interesting to ask the older ones what they remember of British colonialism or traditions, or even ask the younger ones what they heard about it! My grandparents, who were alive when we were a British colony, have lots of interesting tales and thoughts to share about it too. Mustafa talking about arrogance (I believe he might have lived under British rule) hints at this too.

Yea, my grandparents did. But since they lived in a rural area and not a city, their lifestyle wasn't much affected by it. They knew they were living under Colonist regime and called British _'Goras'_ or _'Firangis'._ It is interesting to know that to them their whole world was the village they spent their lives in, with their own village council to handle the affairs and shared stories to each other. Although, I do not know how it all went down for people living in other densely populated areas

I am English.I am almost 62 years old .I have experienced this type of afternoon tea maybe once or twice in my life .It is not really an everyday event . Most people put a tea bag into a cup or mug pour over boiling water stir and wait 2 minutes .using a spoon squeeze the tea bag and discard .(I always save it and make another cup of tea then use the tea bag in my garden to grow vegetables) Now add sugar and stir and yes you can stir in circular motion .finely add required amount of milk according to personal taste and enjoy .slurp or don't slurp but in public probably don't slurp you might gain an audience 😉

Mustafa was actually kind of on to something with the arrogance comment. All the rules of formality and conduct were indeed a way for the British upper class to distinguish themselves from the rough masses. Later on in the 19th century, wealthy women often had tea gowns, which were informal (meant to be worn without a corset) but still very opulent, meant for entertaining guests in the afternoon hour.
