Tribute to Hobo Shoestring

I have been following Shoestring for years so I purchased a Hobo and Cop car because it reminds me of him. He is a very knowledgeable man and knows everything about trains from the equipment to the routes and history. I really enjoy watching his videos. I get the chance many people wish they could do, ride the steel rails.
He offers shirts and coffee mugs for sale on his channel.

I once became a Hobo by accident. Back in the 1960's my friend Mike & I were playing on our New York City neighborhood's train tracks, climbing around on a hopper car full of gravel. Out of nowhere the Train took off and gained speed fast. It was soon zooming through neighborhoods, one after the other & the next thing you know, we were going over the famous Hellgate Bridge, riding on a hopper full of gravel. Lucy for us we pulled into a train yard & there was a N.Y. City elevated train to take us back home.

Tommy, That is a great story. It sounds like something that could have happened to me because we would climb onto trains and go exploring. Sound like your exploring turned out to be an unexpected adventure, and even going over the Hellgate Bridge. Fortunately, it sounds like no one was hurt. Thanks for commenting.

Ole Shoestring is just down the road from me i was in his hometown last friday, he and i are about the same age. He has some hard miles behind him.

Jim, I put my phone behind the side rails of a GP loco running on the next track to get that moving shot. Maybe you could attach your GoPro to rolling stock or loco. I have also placed my phone in a gondola for some shots.

@@JFLionelT-RailOperator Good morning Jim. I only have an iPhone6s that I use on my videos. It fits behind the railing of a Gp9 loco or in a gondola. Maybe you could place your GoPro in a gondola.

@@stevesoscaletrainchannel.1901 I have 3 different camera cars that I built to hold a GoPro mount. One is the chassis of a 3461 diecast log car, one a diecast depressed car with the generator and searchlight removed and one is for Marx, a 3/16" scale chassis. All have added weight and the 2 Lionel cars have washers added between trucks and body to help control shimmy. The 3461 car has a universal Ram mount that adjusts to height, angle etc. The GoPro gives almost infinite depth of field, except will not focus on anything closer than 12". My Samsung phone is only used hand-held. It gives closer focus ability but short depth of field, fuzzy backgrounds. Also the phone constantly re-focuses on items that are in motion. I have done quite a few videos with the cam-car, but not lately.
