Even jay and David had star power though at least. I watch Carson reruns and the thought of how quickly he could make a career is crazy. Jay tried very hard and was a great guest and stand up. Okay host but then seeing Fallon get something so easily that it felt Nobody was good enough for was annoying. Conan maybe shoulda just sucked up because he woulda become a better host. Seinfeld woulda been good I thought

@@richardharris6058 I would not doubt you. I read his mother was a true child abuser POS human being who destroyed Johnny Carson's childhood. Child abuse is rampant in this country, but it's out of sight, out of mind. In Johnny's defense, he was programmed to be cruel by his mother. Sadly.

I grew up with Johnny Carson, and I cried my eyes out when he passed and saw this tribute. A great big piece of America - and humanity - died with him. RIP, Mr. Carson. Thank you for filling this early Generation X-er's childhood with hope, laughter, and love.

I could have watched a LOT more JC, but, I was much younger, and needed my sleep and college study time. Never has there been such a range of characters to sit beside him - - from astronauts to zoologists - - and, even, to sit in his chair, even for just a day. He l launched many careers from a single show, and even ended those of a few. After Carson left the air, I tried to watch late night shows, such as Arsenio, Rivers, Leno, Letterman, and all the wannabes who came afterward on the myriad networks, including daytime talk shows, but, there is no comparison to Carson, because those hosts are all egomaniacs, no matter how warmly they present themselves (Dick Cavett was a second best, but, he always struck me as awkward, never sure what to do next, always at a loss for focus, etc). Now, I settle for the "Best of Carson," hoping that, someday, they release the hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of most of the Tonight Shows that Johnny saw fit to store deep in a salt mine to be preserved for all time; what good are they sitting there?

They have. Carson’s nephew, Jeff Sotzing, was a producer on The Tonight Show for many years, and is now in charge of Carson Entertainment Productions, which owns The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson catalog. They have a You Tube channel that features many clips. DVD sets of entire episodes are available from Amazon, though not nearly all of them. Almost all episodes from 1962-1971 were erased or taped over by NBC.

Johnny kept it funny, classy, apolitical, witty, unpredictable, simple and clever. It was the place to be past the wee hours. He either introduced and propelled new talent or gathered the finest stars in show business. "Here's Johnny!" introduced to us someone who was both a star and a humble man from Nebraska into our living rooms every night. He had a special quality and we loved him.

And now the world is a different place with too many options and not enough demanded of any talent. Razor sharp wit, classy - great mid-western values - Johnny Carson was the total package deal. His longevity was just one testimony to how good he was. He was adored by millions for so many reasons. Johnny Carson paved the way for many different comedians and actors in Hollywood and pretty much around the world as well. I have very fond memories as a young boy, watching his show my parents and distant relatives also have fond memories of him growing up and throughout their adulthood as well. I really respected him for everything that he did and I think it was a great loss when he passed! R.I.P. Johnny Carson!

bluorangefyre ok and current late night making fun of orange man every night isnt repetitive? Trump is basically the sidekick for every late night host except conan who’s actually funny. Craig didnt give a damn about politics at least. Late night became a divisive platform with these other new clowns.

Johnny was the only true King of Late Night. Nowadays they do an hour. Johnny did an hour and forty-five minutes at the start and 90 minutes for much of his run. Not only was he a great stand up comedian whose opening monologue was anxiously awaited for every day, but he was a terrific interviewer equally at home with children and major stars (by far the best of all the comics who've ever done late night shows dealing with regular people and because his show ran so long he had many more of them on in the early days than other hosts do nowadays). He was the best at what he did and really established the genre despite the fact there were others before him. Everything Dave says is spot on.

Was a very uncool teen in the 70's. Loved my friends and loved the music but did not like the bar scene. Music was deafening loud, smoke made my eyes burn, and I didn't like the taste of soda, let alone booze. But I went where my friends wanted to be. Around midnight with a hoarse vouce and a ringing in my ears, I distinctly remember thinking how I would much rather be at home watching Johnny. Guess this video popped up in my recommendations because I've tried to distract myself from the humorless times we are living in. Johnny still sending me off to bed with a smile and lighter heart. Thank you, Johnny. Well done, Dave.

I was a young lad of 10 when Carson debuted on the Tonight Show. My parents would only let me stay up to watch him on Friday nights. Over the years, I rarely missed his show and with the advent of VCRs, I would record each one. I still watch reruns here on KZfaq and I thank God for the technology that allows me to watch and love him all over again.

Like I stated on another Carson website, Johnny Carson was the reason why we put TV's in our bedroom back in the late 1960's. We laid in bed & listened to Carson's monolog. And then we either stayed awake to hear a guest of our interest or we fell asleep. The Tonight Show was often just the background lighting to our sexual activity. "Heeeeere's Johnny" often meant more than his walking out on stage.....LOL. Johnny will forever be the king of late night television.
