Hi Dan, This Woody from the Will Rogers Memorial. I like what you said about only knowing a few tricks to entertain people. I have been hard on myself because I'm not learning other tricks as fast as I think I should. The reaction of some of the visitors is rewarding and I even get some applause now and then. Thanks for all the great information... and the overhead views are very helpful.

Hi Woody, I'm glad you watched that one because I had you in mind when I said it. Although I didn't know about you being hard on yourself. You have a very specific reason for learning rope tricks. As you learn more tricks, you will work them in, but they are not necessary for what you are doing. Plus, inside, you are limited in space and it might not be good for you too take people out of the museum to watch a trick roping show. Also, you asked about what hondas look like. They are just a rectangle, about 2 1/2 inches long by about 1 1/4 inches wide. I've never measured them. The long side is long enough to cradle the rope and protect the end of the honda from the rope wearing it out with friction. The short side should be wide enough to go around the perimeter of the rope in the honda but not all the way. If it wraps all the way around then you can't lace it tight. I cut the burner out of a piece of leather, then trim it as needed and round off each corner. Then I punch four or five holes along each long side for the lacing. Then I run warm water over and work it until it is soaked so it is more flexible. I lace it on the rope before bending it over to form the honda. The leather should be medium thickness. Really thin leather will wear out. Latigo leather is too heavy. It adds too much weight and it won't wrap around the rope tightly.
