Instant 'like' when I saw your 2001 setup snap! As a long-term Avid editor who's been cutting documentaries for UK Broadcasters since around that time, I find your uploads really clear, informative, and fun, without all that false bravado and 'shapong' language that's just irritating to people who just want to get better at Resolve. You and Team2Films are my Go2Guys for informative, waffle-free lessons. Seriously... thank you for all that you do!

Team2 is so freaking good! Please don't hesitate to reach out with Avid to Resolve questions. I spent 10 years in avid so I understand a lot of the frustrations and between the 2 systems. I think that setup I had from college used a Pinnacle capture card with my home built PC. I captured from Hi-8 and laid off to VHS and Video CD. :)

Great memories, huh? I remember the first time I got my hands on Avid XPress DV. I was walking around my house all day in a daze, muttering to myself, "i've got an Avid in my house." That was back in the days when they were eye-wateringly expensive, and not for little people like us! I appreciate your offer, by the way. With my muscle memory, I spent months trying to make Resolve act like an Avid with keyboard shortcuts and whatnot, before I realised that I just needed to wrap my little brain around it being a different (and far superior) hunk of software. Keep up the amazing work. It's really appreciated, from all the way over here in Edinburgh, Scotland. @@CreativeVideoTips

A tip I use a lot when conforming is to turn on the difference mode in the Viewer, you can do this by right clicking in the viewer and select it but I have my mapped to Num+ for difference and Num- for Normal. Makes it fast for me to switch to the difference mode to check that my conform match my reference.

The Edit Index panel has become one of my new favorite tools in DaVinci, especially for relayering tracks and seeing markers all in one place. I still need to spend some time with the Edit Index sub panel though.

One of the little things that made me transition from Premiere is the ability to double click on a marker (from the index list) and the playhead would jump there in the Timeline. Especially helpful for documentaries and long Interviews when I would make different color marker for different topics. Premiere cannot do that. But it's so essential.

I like to edit a bunch of short-form content in one timeline. When I’m done, I put a duration marker over the duration of the Short/Reel. When I go to export those clips, I just click on the duration marker, then hit shift+G to set in and out points from the marker, making it a breeze to export multiple clips from one timeline.
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 10 ай бұрын
Ah thats clever - can you do this on the deliver page?
@likebliss
@likebliss 10 ай бұрын
@@CreativeVideoTips you sure can! There is, however, a small and strange bug with using the keyboard shortcut. If the first frame of the duration marker is not visible on the timeline, shift+G doesn’t work. You either have to zoom out, or right click the marker > set in and out from duration marker. I posted this bug on BM forums.

Lasso trim in Selection Mode works for me exactly as you demonstrated, but I don’t need to press ALT and SHIFT. The whole thing can be done using just the left mouse button. I'm using Resolve 18.5 on Windows and didn’t make any significant changes to the preferences. I also tested selecting the edges of the clips with ALT and SHIFT pressed. This works, but as far as I can see, pressing the modifier keys makes no difference.

1- if you selected the end the clip , you can extend it by one frame by the same shortcut you use for moving the clip one frame 2- if there a dropdown menu , for example the drop down menu for video transitions in the inspector tab , you can type "p" to go to the the transitions that begins with "p" , furthermore , you can type "pu" to go to the the "push" transition right away , or you can scroll on the menu whe it is closed to hever over the transitions 3- if you selected many clips at the same time , you can change any property from the transform menu from the inspector tab all at once i'm still learning davinci ,this video was stacked with new tips ... thank you man I'm waiting for the new episodes

Great tips! You know about the 'temporary disable' for snapping (or linked selection)... tap N while you're dragging in the timeline and snapping turns off just until you let go of the mouse click, then turns back on. Also drag a finder file into the Media Storage to navigate the Media storage window to that folder in the finder. Thanks to Jeff Greenberg for some of these.

Man... that first tip....You saved my life. This is something that was DRIVING ME CRZY.. coming from FCPX, I couldn't understand why it didn't work .. I still think that it's a flaw from Blackmagic to not put ALL BINS by default ...
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 10 ай бұрын
Nice, the only reason I think they maybe default to selected is if the project is super massive the search is slower.
@Superjeanmarc
@Superjeanmarc 10 ай бұрын
@@CreativeVideoTips I also just discovered something pretty incredible for FCPX users who want to emulate the amazing capacity of FCPX to make multiple selections in a single clip. > Add a IN and Out point > Convert those into Duration Markers > Add a keyword to this duration marker. > Now, if you go to your smart bin corresponding to that keyword, the clip will appear in the media pool as a sub clip, only displaying the part of the footage between the duration markers... like in FCPX > AND, now you can drag and drop this sub clip onto the timeline, directly, WITHOUT having to Set In and Out from the duration markers! And, once on the timeline, you can still trim the clip and access the "hidden part" of the footage and adjust your cut. Like in FCPX. > Following this method, you can set a keyword called FAVOURITE and thus quickly create a smart bin where you will have access to all your favourite sections of longer clips.. The workflow is still slower than FCPX as it requires a few extra steps, BUT, we're slowly getting there. .. It really starts to be usable.. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that in the past, you have to convert the Duration Markers into IN and OUT points in order to add only that segment to the timeline.

One useful tip I've been heavily using recently is the 'Reveal Synced Audio in Media Pool' feature and a custom shortcut key for it. Suppose you have a synced video clip but you want to extend the audio; the clip in the timeline won't let you do that. What you gotta do is select the clip on the timeline -> Reveal clip in media pool. Right click on the clip in the media pool and select 'Reveal Synced Audio in Media Pool'. Drag and drop it on the timeline to make a good cut. My custom shortcut for that feature is Shift + F.

Not many people talk about the right way to do manual video and audio sync which, just like the automatic way, links the audio file to the audio channel of the video file. To do it manually, just go to the media tab, select the video and move to the part with the clapping/clapperboard hit, then open the “audio” tab, select from the bin the audio file to go with it and move the audio cursor to the same hit. Then, to link them, click on the little chain at the bottom of the audio tab. Done. This is really useful if, for instance, one of the two audios has really low volume and the auto sync doesn’t work or, even worse, it links to a file that doesn’t match. So here’s another tip: if this happens, just click the same chain icon in the audio tab to unlink the clips.

I have variety of footage which have different aspect ratio from old tape like VHS,DVCAM,Mini DV,HDV and also FHD footage. when we import these footage then by default all clips have same aspect ratio of sqare 1:1 but i want original aspect ratio. In other software like premiere pro when we import clips then it maintain original aspect ratio of original clips but here all the clips have 1:1 aspect ratio. Here from clip attribute we can change aspect ratio but having 200 to 800 clips in a project , it is not possible to do . Is any setting or any solution to solve this in davinci resolve.

Somebody pls tell me there is a way to cut multpile tracks with the same click. I’ve asked around and have not gotten an answer. I work with multi cam and sometimes want to make a cut to all the tracks with the same keystroke instead of doing them individually.

Sounds great and noted about the speed editor. To be honest most of my work lately has been over a remote connection and so my speed editor won't work remotely. Cut page has some improvements I need to cover since my last tutorials.

@@CreativeVideoTips Love it. Thank you!! In Premiere I had followed Taran Van Hemert's tutorial and set it up so I could keep one hand on the keyboard and one on the mouse at all times, which I loved and still haven't at all managed to replicate in Resolve. I'll give this a shot!

Thanks so much. I to do more on explaining finishing over the course of the next year. A finishing editor is the last to work on a project and makes sure all the technical aspects are in order in a nutshell.

Is there a way to trim a clip with other clips right next to it that also moves all of the other clips? I don't want to have to highlight all clips and scooch them forward just to avoid trimming one clip forward and into them.
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 10 ай бұрын
Yes. For sure. This is when you enter the trim mode with the t key or that button I mention in this video. This will ripple the duration of the timeline.

Thanks - I was getting too many complaints about my loud mechanical keyboards on zoom and teams calls. I'm using the apple wireless with the fingerprint reader right now. The skin on top is the davinci one from editors keys. It doesn't fit perfect but keeps my almonds from ending up on it when I snack.

Pretty nice again! I have a suggestion...I barely see videos about bugs of Davinci Resolve. Perhaps there are only a few and most of them are due to improper use, or there are some, that needs some workaround. I appreciate someone made videos that tackles issues in this NLE. Perhaps something "don't do this, do this instead in Davinci". Cheers!

Holy crap dude your entire video has motion blur, ALOT OF IT! Is there a more practical way to do it or did you just suck it up with the render time it took
@CreativeVideoTips
@CreativeVideoTips 10 ай бұрын
Ah yes - I think I should take this as a compliment? Screen Recording is done with the screenflow app on my mac. On export I choose the light motion blur checkbox. It does not take that much longer to render out, and if it does its worth it if it makes watching nicer.

@@CreativeVideoTips Hey Chadwick, good call on using the light setting for motion blur, I agree with @abstract! Do you then bring it into Resolve for finishing?
@likebliss
@likebliss 10 ай бұрын
Is it just me, or has Resolve been extra buggy lately? Every time I make an edit, all subsequent clips have their audio delayed. The only fix for me is to delete then undo… every. time. Also compound clips with multiple native audio effects cause the audio to not play as soon as I hit play.
