I'm taking pharmacology now to apply to PA school and this piece on TCAs was EXCELLENT!! This talk brought together all the myriad but critical parts of the lecture in such a dynamic way, a way that the classroom piece did not approach. Please post more lectures on the pharmacology aspect. This is so COOL! Thanks so much!!

I'm a first year psychology student. You explained this better than my lecturer! Rule of thumb, Tricyclics and Monamine Oxidise Inhibitors (MAO) both increase serotonin and norepinephrine, whereas Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) only work on serotonin - correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm coming off Mirtazapine as we speak, it is hell on Earth, please don't take, neurotoxins aka antidepressants are the worst drugs ever created, I wish I'd stayed anxious because it was not a patch on this crap I'm now experiencing. All psychologist's and GP's should test their own toxic medications before prescribing 🤯

Hi. I have an anxiety disorder with obsessive thoughts. The only ssri to work was luvox but it came with 20 pounds. I made a mistake by getting off it. I tried it again and it didn't work. I'm now stuck it a rut. Is anafranil my next choice? Also if you gained weight from ssri does it mean your more likely to gain from tca ? Thank you

Great video but isn’t amoxepin an Atypical antidepressant. effects are equivalent to those of TCAs but I don’t think it is considered a TCA and also what happened to protriptyline (Vivactil) That’s also a TCA.
@bernardboakye8603
@bernardboakye8603 Жыл бұрын
Protriptyline is as well as amoxepin, the tricyclic antidepressants are classified that way because of its unique tricyclic ring with an alkyl amine substituent on the central ring. You can check the structure up

I came here to know my ans..but didn't got the perfect ans.. How @1 is blocked.. As the conc. of NA is much in synaptic cleft..which might prolong the action on @1 causing vasoconstriction for prolong time.. causing hypertension..I just want to know how @1 is blocked..as TCA just inhibit the reuptake.. whats the role of TCA on @ receptors..by which mech. It blocks @1

They inhibit the enzyme MAO, which otherwise breaks down - in the case of non-selective MAOIs - serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine, PEA and other trace amines.
