I know that some of you have had kids in school for well over a month now, but here in the great State of Minnesota, we are just finally getting back into the swing of the school year hustle. And this means that we are making lunches and snacks to go for my two oldest. Over the last few years I’ve been able to completely swap out our kids lunch box options for food storage -- and we are now working with a completely nontoxic inventory.
This week I’m SO excited to share with you some of my favorite non toxic lunch box finds for my kids (and often for myself too). But before we jump into those this week, I feel like I should preface it all with: you don’t have to overhaul your entire lunch container inventory to be healthy.
For years I picked just a few things to swap out here and there. The trick was honestly getting rid of things we didn’t actually need or use (you know that cabinet with 47 water bottles -- things like that). We paired down to the absolute essentials and evaluated if those could be swapped out for healthier options.
One of the first lunch box items we got was the @ecolunchbox Splash Box because it had a few containers and was a high quality product, which means it’ll last through daily use. I’ve slowly been adding more silicone snack bags to the mix here and there too. But at no point did I clear out my cabinet and go on a spending spree to change what my kids ate out of at school. (not that there’s anything wrong with that by the way).
So just remember with everything I share here that one small change at a time is often the best way to go. If you’re getting rid of something anyways, why not replace it with a healthier option. Those small changes you make are going to be SO much more sustainable in the long run anyways. And if you’re even thinking about how to make a healthier change -- you’re doing a good job. Being aware of what you might want to improve is half the battle. Just know that making these small changes is doing a world of good for you and your family.
