I got Dupuytren's at age 49 my hands have an achy dull feeling most the time and feels like electric shock at times trying to do things. I have no contractions about 4 soft nodules and a few light cords trying to come through. And according to a Dupuytren's forum most of us have pain, but some do not. You definitely have pain when you're fingers get bent because that is not the nature of your fingers. Thanks for sharing, this is a good explanation to share with my friends when trying to explain DC.

Thanks for the channel. I just had PNF by Dr Pess in NJ for the 2nd time for Dup. I am a PT but not a hand specialist so your extensor exercises were a great review. (different video) I would like to say from personal experience that the sooner the better for needle fasciotomy and don't settle for a surgeon that tells you that PNF only works on MP joints. If your PIP is involved see a different surgeon. Recovery can be quick and amazing if you see a good surgeon. Seeing an CHT for a night splint and for active extension exercises after is imperative for good result. Thanks for all you do!

great explanation of the 2. thanks! FWIW, i had trigger finger in my thumb several years ago (back in the 1990's). it was diagnosed by my doctor at the time and he told me that surgery was an option, but success was very minimal. as a result, i opted to not do the surgery. as you stated in the video, my thumb at the time would "click" and sometimes only if i used my other hand to force it. it was very uncomfortable. i studied different possible solutions (i'm big into natural meds). i eventually found a glucosamine/chondroitin combo capsule (i always go for quality over price). based on the bottle's dosage for regular maintenance, i decided to double it since i needed more than "regular maintenance". i followed this dosage for a week or so, then upped the amount. to make a long story longer.... i eventually maxed out at 15 capsules 3x/day (that's 45 capsules/day!). sure, it was expensive, but in the long run, after several months of taking this dosage, the trigger finger TOTALLY went away (i knew i was on the right track because it was slowly improving at the dosage that i was taking). once it was all better, i slowly tapered off the dosage, making sure i paid attention to whether or not the trigger finger issue returned. since it didn't, i kept decreasing the dosage until i was totally off the capsules (took about a year or so. i don't remember the exact time frames as this was back in the 1990's). to date, i haven't had to go back on it and the trigger finger has not returned. after being healed of the trigger finger i've had full function of my thumb (something my doctor told me i probably would never have, had i gotten surgery). keep in mind, i am NOT a doctor, i am NOT trying to diagnose anybody's condition, and i am NOT saying this will work for anyone who has trigger finger. all i am doing is reporting what i did and the outcome that i have had.

In the past 5 1/2 years I have had 8 trigger finger release's, 4 dupuytren's constrictions and 1 carpel tunnel surgeries. The trigger finger release surgery is nothing compared to the Dupuytren's. The dupuytren's in much more involved . The trigger finger, as it progresses will cause pain, the dupuytren's will have no pain, just the folding of your fingers into the palm of your hand. I have a friend that did not get this treated and today he can't pull up his pants cause his fingers are so curled up into his palms he can't grip anything .If dupuytren's is not treated it can make your hand useless. I waited too long on my first dupuytren's on my right hand ring finger and now it will not straiten out . I have about a 10-15 degree bend in it. The doc told me I should of come in sooner as I let it go too far. Please if you have any signs of either of these get yourself as fast as possible to a board certified hand surgeon. I am 77 soon to be 78 years old male.

I know of a lot of botched surgeries. If doctors can't even agree on the diagnosis never mind the treatment. I'm more interested in treating the root cause then each symptom as it arises. My first trigger fingers developed when I was 17 years old . I did not have surgery they resolved on their own, occasionally having problems from overuse between that time and now at 65 years old . I also have had arthritis, carpal tunnel, Dupont trends, and dupentrens. Most of these things were caused by overuse . No surgery required. Looking for ongoing therapy a treatments for the root cause

I would think regular gentle-yet-determined circular massage motions on the affected palm with arnica salve or some related pure & natural plant-leaf salve could be an enormous help - anyone here tried self-treatment along those lines?😅

I’m a female of Scandinavian decent (Viking?) who had surgery for Dupuytren’s Contracture. The contraction affected my middle and ring finger, as there was a mound of flesh beneath them. My doctor pulled what actually felt like a long cord out of my hand. Recovery was about three weeks, and it was lovely to have the use of my whole hand again. However, I was told it could come back. My sister has it, too.

Hi Patricia I am a female of German descent and believe I have this same problem. I did a phone consult with a hand specialist who said that I need to wait until it is worse before surgery should be done. I am in Canada so it is difficult to get these kinds of surgeries as we can’t pick our own doctors. If I touch my middle finger to my thumb (like the “yoga pose but with middle finger instead of first finger) I can’t straighten my ring finger on both hands.

I'm in Canada and I'm having my DC surgery on Monday. My GP referred me to a hand surgeon and I was seen in a matter of weeks. My surgery was scheduled for 2 weeks after that. This type of surgery is very delicate, so you must have a specialist. I live in Niagara and I had no problem being referred to a top surgeon in the area. So, not sure why you are having problems.

During my trigger finger surgery, they said the tendon was worn down and partially torn. They had to shave it, not repair it. They snipped one of the pulleys, I believe. They said there was a nodule on it as well. Middle finger, but the ring finger is heading that way as well. No one ever even tried to look at anything other than trigger finger for me. It took two years of painful "trigger" finger before my poor excuse of a primary care doc referred me to an Ortho surgeon. Not sure what it is/was for sure, tbh.

Glad I came across your video. I am 72 years of age, and very fit, in many people are surprised when I tell them of my age. I have no complaints about my body, one of the lucky ones I guess. But waking one morning I noticed that my ring finger on my right hand was acting strangely. When opening up my hand the finger was scoring like a trigger finger. So after watching your video explaining the trigger finger symptoms this is what I have. I watched one video before discovering your video that scared the life out of me, explaining that I need hand surgery. But after watching you exercise video that made me feel much better. So doing these exercises, will this put things right again. Apologies for long comment.

I know this video isn’t recent, but I just saw a hand orthopedist, I had a mild trigger finger. No pain. Treated with cortisone. I also noticed a small nodule and thin cord center of my palm, same hand ,which he told me is Dupuytrens.. My fingers are not affected at this point. I would love exercises ,massage or treatment for this to keep it at bay. I had bicep repair a year ago, my finger joint at the palm was swollen and painful a month after. I thought it might be from the sling I wore for 6 weeks. Maybe a coincidence. The Dupuytrens cord showed up about 2 months ago.,

Thank you. I was in a car accident and it seems the ring finger on my right hand has that light lock when I wake up and soon after moving hands and fingers it goes away. Back the next morning. It feels like the locking is happening at the second joint… so far no pain. The base of the left thumb was injured too and hurts. I am doing hand pt and several exercises are the same as you comment on. The explanation is interesting.. I heard Irish have that hand curing thing sometimes… I would like to avoid it by better care. Was a mechanic for 50 years and just turned 70 and not job working… but other things like light garden work.

Hello Michelle. Thank you for your video. A few questions I have if you don’t mind. Are there any medications, if consistently taken, that could cause either of these conditions to occur in which you mention? Also, could a poor diet or mineral deficiency cause these conditions? I’m curious because out of the blue, starting somewhere in May/June of 2020 or a few months after COVID hit, I woke up one morning and experienced what I assumed was Trigger Finger in my left thumb. This has lasted about a year and just about a week ago, one day, it was gone. Today I woke up and my pinky finger on my right hand is extremely painful at the based knuckle or start of the palm. The knuckle is swollen and if the pinky moves even a millimeter in any direction, the pain is excruciating within that knuckle. I’ve never injured either of those fingers but have always been an athlete and someone who try’s to stay fit at the age of 40. Any reply is greatly appreciated. God bless and thank you.

i've had trigger finger in my left pinky finger for a few years but only now have i found out what it is. i thought it was nothing to worry about because it has never caused me any pain or discomfort, its just mildly annoying when it's a bit more difficult to straighten then my other fingers. one thing i've noticed is if i try to straighten out all my left fingers, only the other 4 straighten and my pinky sits in a curved position which feels like its natural resting position. i can straighten it but its like i have to put extra effort into it. while it still doesn't affect me at all apart from being a little annoying it's definitely something i will think about getting checked out now.

This was very helpful. I actually finally decided to go to the Dr for this. My appt is tomorrow. It started out as trigger finger, and I assumed it was due to overuse. It wasn't painful, but progressively took longer and longer for my finger to loosen up in the morning or even sometimes during the day as well as becoming increasingly painful, now however, I have a tight cord in the palm of my hand that is extremely painful even just to the touch, and if I bump my finger to move it towards a fist position it causes awful pain as well as when I try to extend my middle finger (not like that, lol) just laying my palm flat, it is so painful. I am hopeful I can get a shot of some sort (not really looking forward to that part of it) and get some much needed relief. I appreciate your video and have subscribed to your channel, you were very easy to understand and I appreciate that. Thanks again.

Hi me again 2 years later. I had an MRI on my right hand and it showed that I have abnormal fluid build up by my middle and ring finger joints in my palm. (I can't make a fist or close my hand due to immense pain) I've read that the doctors normally aspirate the fluid out of the joint. Is that incredibly painful? Do they do that in the office or do you have to go to a surgicenter to have this done.. I've already had two injections in that area this year. I'm not good with pain and even though they spray this cold stuff on the injection spot I can barely stand the injection itself. I have to see the hand surgeon tomorrow Nov 20, 2023. I just wondered so I could psyche myself up. Thank you.

Thanks so much for this explanation. I just had my second trigger finger surgery on my left hand. The first surgery was on the left hand thumb. Next up is surgery and the right middle and 4th fingers. Trigger finger is painful. Every morning I wake up with swollen contracted fingers that must be straightened out with hot water. When will it stop?

Michelle will you address this article below. I’ve use a Mueller wrist thumb splint designed got trigger thumb. Popping before the use of the splint. But at the base of thumb of the palm after several weeks of the popping the stiff and very sore area at the base. I have used your exercises for the thumb that has helped. But the soreness continues. After this Dr Berg explain the electrical circuits from the brain I thought he had lost his mind! But I tried this exercise and couldn’t believe the pain had left after trying this. I don’t believe in quick fix method’s especially after 3 weeks of pain. It was an eye opener for this skeptic, not anymore! I will continue your 3 exercises for Trigger Thumb. As well since it loosens the tightness. Just thought you would want to see his video. Quite interesting to say the least. Especially someone in your profession. Thanks for all you do helping those in pain. You are a wonderful person! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abyUlKqqra7WiKs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abyUlKqqra7WiKs.html

Great info! I was treated in both hands for trigger finger. The injections and finger braces for sleeping have worked wonders for me. No pain or problems at this time. Two left fingers and three on the right. My reason for looking it up was when I learned that Dupuytrens was genetic and found in a lot of Scandinavians.

Just been diagnosed by my PC DR with trigger finger after I had complained that once I get my hand into a fist, my middle finger gets stuck in a curled position and I have to use my other hand to pop it back out; having said such, I’m not sure if it’s trigger or the other condition you had mentioned. I am a diabetic that has developed peripheral neuropathy in the past two years end this development started only a couple months ago. Thanks for mentioning the other.

Has any one seen Dupuytren’s start in a 29 F? My grandma had it and my dad had it. Everyone tells me I am too young so it is not that, but it doesn’t seem to get better with rest. I use my hands a lot for my work so it could be an old injury ( I have many that I don’t notice much anymore) but it feels hard and doesn’t get better with rest. i saw a specialist but he seemed to just write me off since I was too young to ‘do anything’ so that didn’t help much

Great videos. I am at the commencement of dupuytrens I think. I have a hard nodule on my palm with the tendons coming from that to the first finger (so far) and one below it towards the wrist. I don't have any bent fingers ad yet and I wonder if any splints may prevent the bending. I also have some osteoarthritis on the finger joints. I'm Following your exercises and they are superb.

Hi, I am 74 years old and have a contraction of my left pinky finger,. Your video was exceptionally helpful and very well explained but I am confused with my finger as it has never popped or clicked and is bent in the first and second knuckle forming a “c” shape. It is possible to close my finger against my palm but impossible to straighten out. I have no pain at all so for that, I would assume it is Dupuytrens disease but there is also no swelling on the palm as shown on some videos. I cannot decide what disease I have as it contradicts the symptoms of both diseases. I am booked to see a hand surgeon in the near future and am having an x-ray tomorrow.

What causes a stiffness in the thumb, where you cannot bend it. When I try to bend it the thumb springs back to a straight position. The pain is felt at the base of the thumb. This tightness releases when I sink the thumb in hot water for awhile. Is this trigger finger or arthritis? Thank you.
